  • In this video we have answers about JMRI, DCC++, and Raspberri Pi and how to have them work together. I recently posted several videos on the subject of running DCC++ on a Raspberry Pi using JMRI. There were several questions and usefull information in the comments of these videos. Here I will share what I found out and how I answered the questions from the viewers.
    I would like to give a big thank you to all that contributes to this community through Patreon and my PayPalme account. Thank you very much.

    Some of my head scratching was answered right off. The rest I'm putting in the old "parts drawer" for possible down the road issues. It is impressive that you do this. It's a lot of work, prepping, on camera, editing and posting - THEN the work starts with the Q&As. I'm glad your "there" doing it for us all.
    Thanks for sharing...

    Thanks for the narrated walk
    through with Pi resolution in the 1st question. You got the pronunciation absolutely right! It's a conjunction of my 2 favorite Italian driving machines from definitely much younger days; Moto Guzzi & Alfa Romeo. I became GuzziAlfa all over the net and the name just stuck! Easily 20+ years now, post CompuServe when it still had just 3 digits after the name. 😉

      Your welcome. I haven't heard anyone refer to CompuServe in ages. It might have been me. Back when 8 Mhz Turbo was a fast dial up connection on a Hayes modem.

    nice Tom...I used a deek robot clone which looked like the deek robot (it had no name on it) one for my DCC++ system It has the 298 chip set and it has worked flawlessly. I think I told you it was a deek one but it isn't....Thanks for the answers Tom

      Thank you Tom. If you still have it, can you share the link for the one you have. The more motor shields that work with DCC++ the better.

    Adafruit has a motor controller for almost $20. I have not used it. I have had success with a lot of their products.

      Adafruit has a lot of good products that I have purchased. Unfortunately, their motor controller is not compatible with DCC++ .

    Can you connect your smartphone with the Z21 App directly to DCC++ (without JMRI) ?

    • @TomsTrainsandThings
      @TomsTrainsandThings  5 років тому

      Waldo, I'm not familiar with the app but from reading the first line of the description it is used to connect your phone to the Z21 command station.

    • @WaldoHazeleger
      @WaldoHazeleger 5 років тому

      @@TomsTrainsandThings Yes, its primary use is the Roco Z21 command station. However, you can also connect it to the Digikeijs DR5000 station. So I was wondering if it can connect to the DCC ++ station as well.

    • @TomsTrainsandThings
      @TomsTrainsandThings  5 років тому

      You might want to ask the developer of the Z21 app if it connects with DCC++. I doubt it though since the last time the app was updated was in 2012 before DCC++ was released to the public.

    hi, just tried creating a dcc++ controller as the various videos on youtube & as far as i can see when i verify the code it produces errors with the code has anyone else had this problem?

    • @TomsTrainsandThings
      @TomsTrainsandThings  5 років тому

      If you have an error with the code the IDE will highlight the line of code and will state at the bottom in red what it is looking for. If you haven't changed anything in the code it should work. You may have accidentally changed or deleted something. Are you pressing the Verify button or the compile button. If you hit the compile button it will also give an error at the bottom of the page. You could have the wrong component or port selected.
      Send me an email with the screen shot of the error and I can answer your question better.

      First place to look is in the error message, it tells you where it finds a problem. Find where it is. It's not in the sketch it's finding a problem in your file directory:
      C:\DCC++\BaseStation-master\BaseStation-master\DCCpp_Uno\DCCpp_Uno.ino:433:100: warning: backslash and newline separated by space

      Hi Tom, thanks for your help so far, what i have done is gone through the lines of code & deleted all the spaces in between the backslach & newline characters, all i have now it two error codes about converting strings into chars, which i will look at tomorrow morning, about to go to work so have a nice day, will let you know i how get on. Thanks.

    • @TomsTrainsandThings
      @TomsTrainsandThings  5 років тому

      Not quite sure you understand the error. The code doesn't care if you have 50 spaces between lines, it does not recognize the spaces. Only looks at lines with code and ignores commented lines and spaces.
