Brilliant, my dad used to take me to my grandma's from my home town of Blackburn to Manchester on this route when I was a kid. Always looked forward to the long tunnel! Thanks for this nice video

My local lines, so very interesting to see - thanks for posting - interesting that Sough tunnel at well over a mile was dug out by manual labour in about the same time that it took a state of the art tunneling machine to re-bore the Farnworth tunnel at 295 yards !

Having said that, at least nobody was injured or perished in the modern day project !👍

I was hoping somebody had done a cab ride of this route. Pleasantly surprised. Nice to see Bromley Cross station again after all these years. My Aunt lived down the road from the station on Darwen Rd. Nat Lofthouse was her next door neighbour from about ‘59 to early 60’s.

Remember when the train went to Pendleton station? Used this route every weekday for years. Lucky to get a seat sometimes.

It’s interesting that between Blackburn and Bromley cross it is mostly a single track.
I used to commute from Darwen to Manchester and almost every day I’d suffer delays because of the single track.

I have used this service from Blackburn to Manchester and at one time they use to put a single carriage DMU on at rush hour, if you was not at the front of the que you would be packed in like sardines, after the first time I waited and caught the later train.

Approximately 3 min, Blackburn Rovers stadium is on the right, Ewood Park. If Jack Walker lived a few more years, there would be a station there for away supporters.

The bridge at 3:24 takes you down to the stadium and would probably have been the site of the station. Instead, we got Indian owners who destroyed all progress Jack made with the club. Sad.

18:23 That is why I think using battery powered trains on rural routes would be better than electrifying the entire area, that bridge is one of the historic bridges that will be demolished if this line is electrified.

Hi,,,,,I’ve just observed the vid clip again,,,the last time I road this route, was back in the 90s,,,it looks and Sounds as if not on penny was ever spent on poor old Sough Tunnel,,but I bet that nearly a million or even more was spent on extending the unnecessary passenger loop at Darwin station,,
