    This is Part 1 of this three part video which takes us from Manchester Aiport to Preston, through the heart of Manchester and the delightful Lancashire countryside.
    Part 2 will see us through to Carlisle, with a beautiful scenic run through the Lake District and will be coming soon.

The 09.17 to Glasgow which was always Brittania hauled, the balance working around midday which often produced a clan, the evening Ancoats to Kingmoor freight... It's time for my medication.. 'sigh'

      09weenic I don’t know what the answer is, it reminds me of the diagrams of the original Ludgate Hill Station platforms. It was of course never designed to be used by the number of trains now using it. When I was a Regional Railways Conductor at Sheffield in the early 90’s we had one job which was a Cleethorpes Liverpool Express and the return working,we worked always from Sheffield to Oxford Road and return we never relieved or got relieved at Manchester Piccadilly. Perhaps Manchester Mayfield might be the answer.

    I'm trying to understand British rail terminology. I've learned that up/down are terms used to describe heading towards (up) or away (down) from a major station.
    So where I'm confused is that you're calling a line the Down Bolton both heading towards and away from the station. In this video, shouldn't the line before reaching the station be called the Up Bolton and then after passing the station the Down Bolton or am I missing something?

      That would't be specific. Lines run into and out of Manchester from all directions, and into three stations, all of which enjoy through and terminating services. Is it standard practice at Manchester Piccadilly to have about 17 persons between the travellers and the train when this (or any other) train arrives? Also the use of a flyover is not really used on this line from Manchester Airport to Edinburgh. Despite this a good video and the rain?! That is part of life. You can not let the train wait anywhere for the rain to disappear and only than to continue!

    • @tonyp011
      @tonyp011 4 роки тому

      you can hold a train if the weather is far to heavy that the wipers cannot cope as ive heard of trains being held because the rain had been that heavy drivers were reporting poor visibility and that the wipers weren't coping, also a train can be held up at a station or even where there is no station where rain as flooded a line and the water as covered the top of the rails, and you cannot say this is untrue as this as also happened, otherwise health and safety would have a lot to say if there was an accident due to a train being allowed to move in these torrential conditions

      I'm not sure what you mean by 'what permission'. I have permission. I had to agree to a series of conditions

    What does up or down signify?

    • @words.on.wheels
      @words.on.wheels 20 днів тому

      The direction of travel. You'll see it sometimes broken down into 'fast' and 'slow' as well. This is to distinguish between express and commuter services. So for example, this is a 'down slow' service.

    Don't go to all that extra work as it's obviously Manchester Airport as the captions states.👍

    A lovely ride through rainy England and that too at a maximum speed of 110 km per hour. What about part 2? When is that going to be released?

    • @rjs198585
      @rjs198585 5 років тому +2

      Its MPH. England uses imperial units for speed and distance, metric for most other stuff. Its complicated, but it works.

    • @beneliastrains
      @beneliastrains  4 роки тому +1

      Up is the line towards London and Down is the line away from London.
