Got a chance to stop by the shop yesterday and he let me swing the racquet around a little bit. Boy that thing is a HAMMER. Really nice guy. Definitely plan on shopping there.
I bet each RF97 racket on your shelf is a different weight. I bet Roger has frames custom picked that are a certain weight. Then they can get more consistent results. Also, they used a different amount of lead tape on each one based on what they need. I saw a rack of Rogers rackets being customized at Priority One posted online a couple of years ago.
Long time ago I decided to buy two of the Diablo Mid when Prince reissued them. The shop had maybe 15 of the frames in my grip size. Weight varied from frame to frame more than I supposed, but I found and bought two that weighed the same. Strung them up and thought, oboy, they'll play the same. No. As I already intended to make the frames heavier, I was able to make them feel pretty close. Then I hypnotized myself to not care about their different feel.
Really if Wilson are selling a RF97 Autograph with the same specs as Rogers technically speaking Wilson should have made these to spec so all this customisation shouldn’t be required. I can understand a gram or 2 but removing the head guard and adding all that lead when the racket should of come with the right specs to begin with is a joke imo. Might as well of bought the normal Pro Stock 97 and done all this.
Not blaming you, the video was great, but I blame Wilson.
I have this racket too, Its a beautiful racket, Mine weights 359g. I put VS Touch in mains and LXN 4g in crosses at 57/54 and it plays absolutely amazingly so I’m not knocking the racket, I’m knocking their marketing and quality control. Ive also put the rounded butt cap on, I cant stand those sharp edged ones but again if roger is using a round one and this is a copy why should we be changing these out?
Enjoyed watching you string the gut, I love stringing natural gut.
Dories Roger tie off his crosses onto a cross string or does his stringer tie the poly onto the gut? I hate tying poly onto a gut but on this racket the grommets dont really allow for it unless you start opening up the grommets.
As Roger and many players today use hybrid string setups, there is differential loss of tension between the two types of strings (especially if using gut on the mains and polyester on the crosses which loses tension quickly). So over time the frame will distort and become somewhat shorter. Shorter frames (even 0.25") will absolutely decrease your swing weight as anyone who chokes up slightly on an extended length frame can attest.
All things considered, I think Roger is the only one who plays with the racquet he promotes.
Fantastic Video, will consider trying on one of my RF 97s.
Nadal does too, but nadal uses the first version of the Aeropro drive
Roger’s racket would be a Pro Stock which has been made with less difference in weight. Consumer rackets have a +/- 7 to even 10gr deviation.
This is correct, the big secret is in order to match Roger's specs you need a stock weight of 328g (-12g) not the 340+g that comes off the shelves this is key or you will blow past the swing weight after you add everything on. You would have to get an under spec weight racquet or you will never achieve the 346sw. Also, remember for every 1 point in SW difference is equal to 3 grams of weight. So 346sw-350sw is 4 point sw difference. He would need to redistribute 12g of weight in order to get 346sw. I know because I've made two Roger specs racquets and I used a Babolat RDC machine for precise precision. I created a much better method for add silicone in the handle much more accurately that allows me to adjust how high the weight is in the handle. Still a great attempt trying to pull this off I enjoyed watching the video because I came across these problems and more when making mine.
Hi Tennis Team! I'm Pretty curious about the customization for Dominic Thiem racquet! I would love if you guys do a video about it, or just some ideas about what could be. Thank you! 💚
Balance is measured from the bottom, so I think your difference in length truly is the difference.
Awesome video!
Put Roger's back in the machine but don't push the butt all the way up against the stop. Leave about an 1/8 inch gap at the back before you clamp it. Now check swingweight. As far as the machine is concerned, the racket is now full length.
You're gonna have to fix that typo in the title before everyone else gets here 😆
:D nice catch...the GOAT is unique
I was gonna say, how tf do you misspell Roger?
Also spelled wrong in hashtag smh
@@azrael201201 Hashtag still wrong but the title is fixed now!
The difference is the small paint chip on Rogers racket. Plus you need to sign your handle. Great job!!!!!
It is typical QC from Wilson and other manufacturers. There are photos from P1 that show several of RF’s racquets without head guards on and the lead tape is different lengths. Also, with RF’s custom handle, we really do not know how close the stock one comes to weight/balance so that can be throwing off the measurement as well. Good job putting in the effort and showing the techniques. 👍. About as close as you are going to get without raiding P1’s database.
I would put the racquet on the scale and then inject the silicone so I can track the weight
Can I buy that remade one lol
Roger strings his crosses 3 lbs less than mains, therefore mains compress racquet a few mm shorter.
Rogers setup for 5 racquets getting restrung before a doubles match.
Pre stretch Gut Mains-Natural Gut Babolat VS, 3 racquets with mains at 27kg (59.5lbs), 2 racquets with mains 26.5kg (58.4lbs).
Crosses 1.5kg lower than gut mains on all racquets.
Crosses-Poly Luxilon Alu Power Rough, 3 racquets with crosses at 25.5kg (56.2lbs), 2 racquets with crosses at 25kg (55.1lbs).
ua-cam.com/video/vudl8vkLhDQ/v-deo.html
I´m not sure the racket would be compressed. He can tell us by measuring the racket before and after. Usualy you notice when a racket is compressed just when you take out of the stringer, because it´s tighter on the top/bottom anchoring points.
@@miguelbarahona6636 All racquets deform with a main/cross differential tension. Can be minimal but swingweight can certainly change also. Also the fact the original racquet was sitting for 5 years could have an effect on strings.
Shows Roger is using Wilson Natural Gut 16.
Hi, do you have a Wawrinka used racquet?
Blame Wilson quality control...?? You know how retail frames from them are lol
How much would a roger replica cost with shipping?
Have you got an on line store? Do you ship worldwide?
This guy would sell a ton of stuff if he had an online store!
The caulk gun has a pin on the bottom to puncture the opening.
wow don't be so OCB, a couple of grams, really great job, very informative. and entertaining!
The side-by-side comparison of the two showing the oval vs. round shape was really noticeable even on video. I never really considered that and now I wonder how my rackets sitting in my bag for 10 years strung might look relative to a new one!
Its because Fed's racquet is customized for him. It's close to retail but it's made for him and only lead tape at 12 under the grommet.Take out 1 gram at 12 you will get a closer match.
I think P1 know his racquets’ specs unstrung and strung. So they match his racquets without strings. Then just add the strings, pads, and savers.
Correct!
How do you stencil ink a polyester string which last as Long as natural gut
Wilson makes Federer Rackets different than the ones you can get probable slightly bigger on the head with a different density of graphite looks the same it is not!! that's the difference
Great video! You showed that Roger does use the frame that is sold. I too think he picks a certain weight racket to start with.
I thought they use their old racquets and paint them like the new ones to sell to consumers the brand/products.
The amount of silicone you added to the handle isn't going to affect the vibration dampening much. It probably would have been better to have added 2g of lead tape under the buttcap. Great video.
Putting weights at 10 & 2 o clock vs lead all the way up might get the swing weight down.
so rackets are different its not possible to recreate his racket only his specs with different frame .... great video. I just got my vcore 95D with specs close to Stan. I will strung it tomorrow and i will try how it feels :)
Yes it is. He simply added too much lead tape at 12.
Fix swing weight, ignore balance.
Correct!
Hi from IRAN
From my point of view the roger stick is different from the market ones. by make it rounder they have increased the sweet spot of the racquet also aerodaynamic shape will change and the result will be decresing the swing wghit ... this is special engeenring for his stick to get less frustration and fautig during the long matches with using higher mass in racket ..
Majid Jouzani it’s not rounder, he uses a modified version of the racquet he endorses. The roundness of the racquet is due to tension of the strings where it’s been kept in the display case for a number of years. It’s basically distorted the frame.
Agree
ben gray i think the only difference really is the customized pallet
i mean, he might have scooped the ball off the ground a lot lol
I'm pretty sure before 2010, Fed's string setup was 49lbs on mains and 46lbs on crosses. Does anyone know why he increased that much?
Late reply but it’s probably because he previously used a smaller head size racquet. Smaller head sizes offer more precision but less power. After he switch to a 97 in, he probably didn’t need the power low string tension offered anymore, so he went all in on feel and precision
Wouldn't it be more accurate to weigh the caulking gun, put some silicone in the handle and weigh the gun again? Or, if feasible, just weigh the racquet as you put the silicone in?
@Tom R thats exactly what I was thinking. why not just weigh the racket and add the silicone in increments?
Maybe he injected the silicone higher in the handle
3:00 when you say some of these racquets have styrofoam, are you meaning specifically RF97A’s? Or racquets in general? Cause many racquet models do
It depends on the model. All the Pro Staffs do. Rackets in general. Thanks for watching!
@@TennisSpin My Blue laver cup RF97A has silicone oddly enough.
Probably Roger has patented the configurations for his racket, so that Wilson is not authorized to make exactly the same for anyone else including the public market.
Great video lot of work involved. I posted my comments in a response to someone else below. on how to fix your swing weight problem. But one if the most important observations you made is that the racquets are completely different. The retail racquet as you said is oval where as Roger’s racquet is clearly more round for more power and less edge frame mishits. Why does Wilson not give us the same shape mold shape as Roger’s it’s so frustrating. If you can make a part 3 where you measure from 12 to 6pm and from 9-3pm the difference between the two racquets in millimetres with a measuring tape that would be great. If you can compare it to the new Wilson RF97A that just came out that would be awesome. Thanks.
very good work , if you please .... make to us a video about Best racquet for players of 50 years
365.5 total! you need to measure the head weight? Handle weight same as Rogers racket! Than check the balance again!
To be fair, Wilson has the tightest tolerances in quality control when it comes to Roger’s racket. From the start you probably had a racket that was a little off in weight distribution
Hi, I’m an intermediate player looking for a new racquet. I was wondering if I should get a 100 square inch head or 98 (Head extreme MP vs Yonex Ezone Dr 98)
Try the Ezone 98 and Ezone 100. My guess is the 100 for you. New Extreme coming! Wait for the new one if that is what you are thinking. Thanks for watching!
Tennis Spin thank you, I have the option between the Yonex Ezone 98 305, Ezone 100 LG 285 or the Yonex Ezone DR 98 LG 285. I’m not sure which one to pick.
Matts R6 where are you getting the racquets from? The Yonex ezone dr lite 285 in particular
The only way you're going to know the accurate swingweight of a racket is to cut the strings out so the hoop doesn't have creep in it. Which you sort of hit on.
When you add weight into the handle, it must be ahead of the point where your hand is, otherwise it doesn't influence the balance ... at least not in practice when using it on the court.
Putting silicone just as you did, does alter the balance only theoretically - but in the end you stick with the same SW
How do the grip shapes feel in comparison? And, if you twist the rackets back and forth, do they feel the same?
Hi again
Listen at least in this video I have learned how to put leather grip or changing the top grommet rubber and how to put string saver links ... so many other point and tips you have sheared for free and generously
Thanks a lot and keep it on dude...
Nice job man
did you measure the diameter of RF's rackets to your clone?
A couple things:
Do you think installing the ALU in the new head guard may have thrown off the tension and therefore the swing weight? That racquet did look very oval.
Would it be acceptable to place the lead tape on the outside of the bumper gaurd and cover it with gaurd tape, instead of installing a new guard? You could even add less weight total since it would be further up the racquet.
What do you think?
I pondered this for 2 weeks... And collaborated with others that know more than me. I would usually remove the strings from the actual racket along with the powerpads and string-a-lings. It would be easier to measure and match without those. Thanks for watching!
Great job, try to play with the racket and give us your feedback
Can you please do how to make your racket like agassi’s next plz
Thanks for going through the whole process of the swing weight to everything to replicate roger racquet but unfortunately the things that got us fool big time is the frame as his frame like you said definitely rounded compare to our. I wouldn't be surprise all past racquet like his 90 inch are all rounded. So we are pretty con and wilson is very sneaky and cheeky of doing to us consumer. Bad wilson
Wilson didn't con he explains at 9:19 (and ua-cam.com/video/qP4GOLcbZRA/v-deo.html, it's Federer's original racket that got distorted over the 5 years time period (it's from 2015 US Open) : polyester is known to stretch over time (thus lose tension), polyester is what the cross strings are made out of. The mains are made out of natural gut, they hold tension pretty well. The force staying strong in the main while the counter-force getting weak in the cross section, the frame got distorted, the height got shorter thus the width wider and the frame appears rounder. If he were to cut the strings, the frame would probably go back to it's original factory more oval shape
I Think Roger has weight higer up in his handel..
Can you do the same for Novaks & Nadals racquet? :)
Wait so there no need for a cotton bud ? Is it due to the foam alrd in the handle that blocks the silicon from going all the way down?
No cotton needed for these.
did you use, natural gut, and the cross strings
6:18 Wow. Thanks for the shot! LOL. Blue is my favorite color.
to play with that raquet you need to be a pro, its really hard to an amateur to swing a 365 g raquets. The firts set is okey, buy if you play 7-6 and you constantly are on serve you gonna get tired really fast.
Na. I just did 2.5 hours on it today and 2 hours yesterday. Most was a 5 hour day. Of course, it was doubles ;-)
@@vicmulyk5775 then play singles😅
Good explanation on sw difference.
Diam. Just before I go to bed. Great vid
Whats your game style?
Great video!!!
Great video!! Thanks
Great work man!
I have 4 RF97 I need you to do for me. I'm in VA. I sent you a message on your IG.
I’m using a pro staff 97 countervail and using tour bite soft for the strings, i want to try out other similar strings, any suggestions? Thx!
I got a PS 97LS...
Full bed multi-filament is good with: Technifibre X-One Biphase, Wilson Sensation, or even a thin soft poly
i tried few different setups as hybrids...my recent one is: Main with Volkl Cyclone Tour 17...Cross with Wilson Sensation 16.....Also tried Gamma Amp Jet in Main in another setup.
I usually keep the Sensation for either Main or Cross (cheaper Multi-Filament compared to X-One Biphase that I love)
I have also tried Sensation in Main and a Soft Poly on the cross
if you want to play around with different tension and don't want to spend much, get a Reel of Gosen Polylon 17...it's a Poly...you can get the reel (600ft) for $41 easily
my 2 cents...hope it helps
why u want to try this? what you need from your string? more power? more feel? more crisp? then maybee someone can help😬
@@immadness4420 a bit more feel and maybe slightly more power
@@isaacchan1794 maybee try a thiner gauge? if you're arm is ok try the tour bite, this one offers more power.
@@immadness4420 yeah but I break them real quick, I broke them after 3hrs of play
"Two grams in the butt"
12:50 - you can clearly see Roger's racket is designed specifically for him, like you said, his is a different shape than the one on the right, so it's impossible to replicate his racket, Wilson customizes the rackets for him of course..
Hmmmm not sure if it’s that different. Because I play with the RF97 and used to string at 57lbs/55lbs with gut and alu power rough. I had one racquet that was strung for 2 months and one freshly strung by the same machine, stringer and tension. The older one was fatter and more rounded than the freshly strung one. So it is not impossible for the shape to change as strings get older and left in the racquet especially if the set up is hybrid cuz they lose tension at a different rate.
Healthy Wonders it’s actually just how the racquet has distorted from string tension while kept in a display case for a number of years.
The only difference is the pallet
Benson Chang well that’s amazing if accurate. I mean the racket’s shape was completely changed due to tension ? How did it end up perfectly round then?
ben gray well that’s amazing if accurate. I mean the racket’s shape was completely changed due to tension ? How did it end up perfectly round then ?
so the novak and roger's racket are more rounded and slightly shorter than the models that the brand promotes
I have no idea why recreational players would even want to put so much time and effort into replicating the specs of a racket used by a professional. I thought the love of tennis came from playing of the sport rather than trying to copy the equipment used by pros.
Both matter. But the mechanics come first and then as one hits a certain level, everyone comes with a tank to the battlefield, not a pop gun. Crude analogy but true.
Not many people hit with Rogers rare eastern grip forehand though
Rare?
i wouldn't say it's rare, is it?
RF has lead tape at 12 o’clock though
That is in part 1.
Unless your a Pro,why bother. The technology of these Rackets is so somewhat perfect already. I get it some people think if they get there Racket like Roger Federer, that there Game is going to improve. Anything that makes people believe that MAKES GOOD BUSINESS. The Game is going to get BETTER IF YOU PRACTICE EVERY DAY PERIOD. IT'S good for Business. Sure come on over to my store And I'll make you the next ATP CHAMPION. 🤣🤣🤣😉😎PS.ADD A LITTLE MORE LEAD

can this guy play or not?
We don't know
Does that really matter?
@@jerome_morrow I think folks are just curious. I've often wondered that myself but to be honest whether he can play or not doesn't invalidate his advice/tips . The one issue I would have is if he is just a recreational club level player why stuff four rackets of various string tensions in his bag? He is a business man, he operates a tennis shop which under normal circumstances/opening times wouldn't leave much time to travel to and compete at a high level tournaments. However being delusional isn't a crime :-))
