A bit of a translation here for non stringers about Rogers setup.
    Pre stretch Gut
    Mains-Natural Gut Babolat VS, 3 racquets with mains at 27kg (59.5lbs), 2 racquets with mains 26.5kg (58.4lbs).
Crosses 1.5kg lower than gut mains on all racquets.
Crosses-Poly Luxilon Alu Power Rough, 3 racquets with crosses at 25.5kg (56.2lbs), 2 racquets with crosses at 25kg (55.1lbs).
Roger has confirmed this setup in other videos and Open stringer staff have confirmed these tensions to be correct. He previously strung around 22kgs(48lbs) with his 90sq inch racquet but now uses a larger 97sq inch RF97A, thus requiring higher tension for similar feel and control.

    • @leiya107

Thanks for the info! I thought it was a parody video of some sort when Roger said he needed his rackets at almost 60lbs! I know he strung his 90sq inch rackets at well below 50lbs but I didn't know the same feel would require such a high tension on a racket that is frankly not much larger.

Just spend a week playing matches with the Fed tension combination of 59 on main and 56 on cross with same gut / poly hybrid, I must say Fed is truly a GOD be able to hit so consistently right on sweetspot on EVERY shot! Because my experience with this pattern is if you hit right on the spot, the feel and power is incredible!, but if you are off just a little bit, YUCH, doesn't apply as much on the volley, very precise feel on that stroke, but man, he must hit them flush 99% of time, ridiculous!

I'm a squash player so forgive me if I'm wrong on this but Federer's string seem pretty loose for tennis. Standard for squash players in terms of string tension is usually about 26/27kg, so I was pretty shocked to hear he has his rackets strung almost the same tension as your standard squash racket. Just shows how incredible a player Federer is if he can time his shots so well with such a low string tension.

I cannot imagine differently, but you're right.. this guy is a pro and does it about double the speed of the average guy, but it still takes min. 15 mins for 1 racket.. and he gave him 5.. so you can count, and he has probably plenty of other players to do as well.. some players need like 9 or 10 rackets set up for every match

    • @davidmoreno790
      @davidmoreno790 3 роки тому +3

The technology needed to make this job fully automated would be insane and extremely expensive because of the precision you need and because space between each groomet is different in all racquets. Also, it's not only precision but speed too. I'm a stringer and I'm able to string almost any racquet in sub-10 minutes time (depending on string pattern and type of string) and definitely it would be really hard to match those times for a machine with such confidence as we humans are capable of. Sure it'll be more automated in future, but I still think it won't be soon.

For kids who play - putting a soft string in the mains like Roger (Gut) is not going to last long when hitting heavy topspin. Putting a soft multifilament with ALU rough is not going to last long either. Rough tears up the soft string. I use Luxiloin ALU power when I hybrid a racquet. I tried to hybrid with Solinco Hyper-G (a string I love - easier on the arm poly) and it tore the soft string (gamma xp or gamma pro) during stringing and did not charge the customer. Another important point is the poly's go dead pretty quick. Pros do not care as they get their racquets restrung daily. So do not wait until the string breaks to restring.

I have a Prince Neos crank, have a Wise tensioner for it, and a Babolat Star 5 constant pull with 6 point mounting and swivel clamps. Babolat seems to be out of the stringing machine business now.

@@imateapot51 Actually, there are $300 machines that can obtain the exact same specs as a $6,000. machine. The difference is that only an expert with ALLOT of experience can get the consistent results needed for professional level specifications. I know one stringer that can come within a fraction of a gram of tension every time with a Gamma X-2 manual machine.
Professionals prefer the machines because they allow for newer stringers to achieve professional results with little training. Also, if your company is worth millions, why would you not spring for a fast reliable machine that all but guarantees consistent results?

Neither as good as six point. The drop wieights with floating clamps - never used one but when I watch videos I would be half way done with the crosses after they do a few mains. So I think people should get a table top with fixed or swivel clamps, 6 point mounting, and replace the dropweight or crank with a Wise tensioner.

I've heard that RF strings at a lower tension, but he was also using a 90 sq in racket so obviously his tension would be higher now that he's playing with a 97 sq in racket. He uses natural gut in the main and Luxillon in the cross strings. A lot of players will stagger the tension though, meaning maybe 60 lbs and 58 lbs. I guess he's just at one tension because you heard him say it himself, and I've heard him say the same tension with the larger racket on other videos so it's definitely true. P1 stringers has always strung for him, he either quit them or couldn't make the trip?? He also asked for pre stretch so they hold a truer tension longer but I don't know how they pre-stretch them. He also has strong savers (for the gut) in his strings. I've used them before and Sampras did as well. When he starts the main strings you can see the leather power pads being placed and this is for dampening rather than using a shock absorber on the racket face. I need some of those but not sure where to get them.

Priority1 stringers have mostly always strung and customiZed Federer’s rackets, and they travel to most of the tournaments, but obviously they were not at this one so he used an on site stringer who’s very capable of stringing his rackets.

Gauge is critical. I read somewhere 18 or even 19! in gut. Rafa reportedly uses cables...
I suspect the small difference in tension may be more of a ideosyncratic thing. His beautifully soft hands adapt to every type of ball all the time so a 0.5 KG starting differential hardly seems consequential, especially in view of the fact that tension drops rapidly once hitting begins due to stretching, knot seating, grommet compression, hand crafting variation, and measurable material fatigue, etc. A stringer I respect once told me within 10 minutes of starting the tension is 10% lower.
Much as its tried to make manufacture and stringing a science ( repeatability ) unavoidable quality control variation make it an art. And the best tennis artists possesses instant fine adaptation to extreme variables under immense pressure. The other more mechanical type players are at a great disadvantage. Go Fed !

Requesting some advice please. The knots, do they make a difference where they’re placed? My stringer places 3 knots at the top of racquet. I string the 97 at 51 lbs. either Tier one firepower or luxilon big banger, full bed. I experienced a shitload of burst strings, was explained due to the LS version string pattern of 18x16. Was just enquiring if by chance knot placement could be a contributor to the constant string popping. I’d really appreciate if EXPERIENCED stringers would respond. Thank you.

No, the placement of the knots makes little difference. Your set up sounds like a hybrid setup because you have 4 knots. You have three knots at the top because two of them end the main strings given you have 18 of them. The third knot is at the top because you have to start the cross strings and they also have to get anchored up there as well ending at the bottom of your hoop with the last knot.
