One of the best feeling racquets I've ever owned is my first nice racquet, 2014 AeroPro Team. I added a full size grip build-up sleeve and 8 grams of tungsten putty in the buttcap, and 6 inches of 1/4" lead x 4 in the hoop at 9:30 and 2:30. Stability out of this world, extremely maneuverable at 340 grams strung with dampener, good plow through while still able to get great racquet head speed and hit a nasty heavy ball from all over the court. My favorite racquets these days have as little dampening tech as possible, as the only thing you need to save your elbow is weight in the right places and good form. I built up my racquet from 280 grams to about 320 grams unstrung over time, adding almost an ounce and a half of weight to it and made it play better than any heavier retail stick off the shelf or customized that I've tried since.
@@Peter-wp5vb I didn’t get that far. For a 100 sq in racquet, the Aero Pro has low twist weight and that was the first thing I wanted to raise. I could put some at 12 now that I’m used to 340-350g racquets, I might try it in a few weeks once tennis picks back up after the holidays.
In order for the light rackets to not be pushed around (more than they already do) they must be stiff and more head heavy, so you get the recipe for disaster, light, which does not absorb any shock, stiff, which vibrates more, and head heavy, which is not indicated for players with bad techniques like the ones who usually buy the super light rackets. So yeah, those light/team rackets are dangerous for your joints.
I play with a 355 gram racket. Bring on the weight! Once you go heavy, you can never go back. There is no substitute for the feel, comfort, and plow you get from WEIGHT.
I customized my blade v7 18x20 to become more head heavier eventhough the swingweight was already pretty high (I wanted a little bit more twist stability and pop on groundstrokes). Turns out that this modification made the racket a lot more easier on my arm despite the high static and swing weight the racket have now
Blade 18 20 is yet a heavy raquet, if you can swing it fast yeah can be a good thing but you can play with it in a 2 hours match? In that case wow. I'm struggling with my blx one that is maybe my favorite racquet but damn.
I only play doubles in my old age and i really do like the lighter racquets better now. When i was younger, i used the heaviest racquets on the market.
Boss, I have a suggestion. Please create a video of suitable racquets for playing doubles. There are so many players in need of this know how. Responsive and maneuverable with the right tension for net play and the right head size with the right balance. Hingis being a small frame girl plays her Yonex like a deadly weapon and very effective. Don't know the specs. Thanks.
Thank you. This is a very good overview. I recently purchased the Babolat Pure Aero Rafa. It is the heaviest (head) racquet I’ve owned with also the most power. I’m finding that I’ve had to dial it back a bit and let the racquet do its thing. Whew!
nice illustration. if heavier the racket it should be the head light to handle it easily .means the balanced at shorter length from handle end .( means center of gravity more closer towards the handle )
on my recent racket change the shop I went to Tennis Mechanix at the Burbank Tennis Center has a good reputation for stringing and they recommended to string a new racket higher the first time and then go lower when restringing it.
Every racket manufacturer does it this way in part because tennis balls are not all that different from each other. So if you have a lighter racket, it is less stable on hard shots, unless you balance it more head heavy, since the ball does not change to suit the racket.
Good information overall for those not well versed in racquet specs. However, should have qualified that the “head heavy” racquets here are still headlight. Even balance is 34.3cm. ie: the “head heavy” racquets demonstrated in this video are simply the least headlight. 33cm balance point is 4 points headlight. Once strung, it becomes around 33.9cm which is still 1pt headlight. Actual head heavy racquets with BP greater than 34.3cm do exist eg: the old Wilson Hammer series.
Very helpful 👌. Thanks ! Two summers ago I just couldn't put the ball in play as they flew away constantly. Now I realize that my racket was too head heavy and hard to maneuver.
dear Coach .. I am now 60. Due to the covid pandamic, I can't go out and play golf which led me to starting tennis again (hiatus after maybe after 30 years) with my wife (she's a regular) I am still kinda sensitive as to how a racket feels - which I see not many people do. Many people seem to be able to adapt almost instantly to any racket that gets into their hands - I envy them. in my 20's (80's era), the racket (which I couldn't afford) but has the best overall feel was Rossignol F200. Even that I stopped playing tennis, I was somehow looking for a racket similar to the F200. The closest I got was the Head Ti.S5 - almost perfect - the feel, the visual and of course the balance as how you have pointed out here & etc. I have learnt a lot from your channel ie what specifications of a racket (string tension etc too) would suit as now I don't wanna hit toohard, happy to just float the ball over 😆 btw, from your previous video, I bought one Prince Premier T3 (oversize 115L) am quite happy with it, but later only that I know (from your video)that I might be able to go to maybe 45Ibs in string tension. Sorry for the long comment. Maybe I might just to search for the Ti.S5 before I retire again. Take care and stay safe - from Malaysia. Again tQ very much.
HL rackets demand full swing, which may be quite difficult for beginners, while HH can deliver more power with compact swings at the cost of loss of control.
Had the Aero spin green banana version in my hand yesterday and the access to spin was really nice. If the price is right, I will pick one up in the future. It was was a shade weird because I am accustomed to a head light Wilson Pro Staff.

Modern quality pool cues often come with adjustable butt weights (mass and location). Threaded core and Allen key grub screws. Maybe tennis rackets should too.
I'm same used to played over one year with tour racquet 316g... performance was good but arm was in pain I'd switch to team and love it.. even tho I'm strong person I'm playing as per video with female racquet 😅😏
If you want slightly more head light racquet e.g. with a head junior 26 you can add a rubber colour ring at the top of the handle. This racquet does not come with a rubber elastic ring like e.g. babolat pure strike does.
A question: where do manufacturers get off the weight of the racket in the lite versions? Does the head have the same weight as the regular racket and do they take the weight in the throat and handle? I would like to know if the weight of the head is the same as the regular version.
Just discovered your channel. Great info btw. Can you revisit the Headheavy vs Headlight debate but maybe across brands? Why are HH or Even balanced racquets so hard to find.. i love the prostaff feel but looking for a lighter one in a 100+ frame..so I'm still playing with my two HyperHammer 5.2 oversize 20 years later...
For me a racket that is too head light is unstable. For example, the 11.7g prostaff 97 is unstable at the hoop because most of the weight is in the handle at 7 pts head light. To compensate I add a little lead to the hoop.
Harry, gotta ask... These are done unstrung, and that's fine I just added 15-20 grams to the wt & bal categories. But about how much more might one expect the swing weight to be strung up...? I know that may vary, but would you say (1.5, 2.0, 2.5)wt of strings for example...?

To turn a Pure Aero into a Pure Aero Tour, would you add lead weight into the handle? How much would you use? I accidentally bought a pure aero instead of a tour but I prefer the tour.
Why is the listed specs so different than what is measured...I get quality control, but it's fairly significant. Regular aero is listed 320 swingweight
Babolat sure has changed the specs for their racquets. I remember when all "tour" racquets weighed 330 grams and were all head heavy. Does this trend apply to all manufacturers? Great video. Thanks.

I had my 98 blade v7 18x20 modified (added leather grip and lead tape to handle). It’s 9 pts headlight, weight of racquet strung 353 grams, with sw of 333. Is this setup considered arm friendly? I’m prone to tennis elbow.
If you see someone swing a forehand in a video, would you be able to recommend a racquet that will fit that person best. Do you sell/send racquets overseas.
Why'd you think the industry got rid of the really light head heavy racquest like the Wilson HyperHammer Line? I think I used to play with a 6.3 that was 9 oz plus unstrung. Seemed to be easy to swing.
What do you think of the Tecnifibre T Rebound Tempo and it’s claims to be specifically designed for women .? How does its design compare to the Babolat Pure Team or Aero?
The light, head-heavy racquets are what I call "granny-sticks" where a person with little strength can still play tennis by simply blocking the ball back to keep it in play. Perhaps even a young child just starting to learn how to play could get away with this racquet. But once a player decides to get better and improve, they're going to need a better spec'd racquet otherwise using this type of racquet will almost guarantee getting tennis elbow. If you add on top of that the obsession with technique and copying the pros, they almost universally use head-light heavier racquets, it's going to be impossible to hit similar shots with the kind of control and power with a relaxed arm while mimicking the same technique. The head-heavy racquets simply messes up with the timing.
I have a problem with head heavy rackets, when i serve pretty fast it gives me an extra shock to the elbow when finishing my stroke. Dont like head heavy rackets at all
