  • In this video, you'll see the complete process of repairing a damaged lower control arm. The control arm had a slot cut into it by the sway bar link, which affects how the bushings are supposed to sit. Fortunately, with the help of a Miller spool gun, we were able to fix the damage and restore the arm to its original condition.
I've included thorough coverage of each step of the repair process. First I use a grinder and some Harbor Freight aluminum burrs to clean and prepare the area for welding. Then I heat up the are to be welded to approximate 300 degrees with a torch. Then, I use the Miller spool gun to fill in the missing aluminum, providing a strong and durable repair. Next, I use multiple grinders and burrs to shape and smooth the repaired area, bringing it back to something close to its original condition which allows the bushing to now sit and work as intended.
Whether you're an experienced welder or just starting out, this video is packed with helpful tips and techniques to help you successfully repair a damaged lower control arm. Whether you're dealing with damage from a sway bar link, or any other type of damage to your control arm, or other aluminum parts, this video will give you some good ideas on how to attack your repair.
