  • It is time for miniature figure painting. I paint 8 figures for the upcoming T-34 diorama in my next episode. The soldiers inspecting an abandoned T-34 during the first stage of Operation Barbarossa. The combination of acrylic and oil colors is my way to create lifelike looking figures with a realistic touch.
Please check the other episodes of my T-34 project if you haven´t already.
    Part 1: • Building "Dragon" 1:35...
Part 2: • Consideration of essen...
Part 3: • Painting camouflage on...
Part 4: • Most effective weather...
As always I hope you enjoy my work and don´t hesitate to post your questions or your suggestions in the comments. I look forward to every comment and every suggestion.
Stay tuned for the grand final diorama work in the next episode.

Great technique, particularly with the faces. There is debate about whether to paint the whites of the eyes in 1/35 scale. I believe figures look more alive if the whites of the eyes are painted. Proper shading around the eye and the right size pupil is key. Your steady hand makes it look easier than it is. I prefer to paint figures with acrylics but it can be challenging to shade and highlight because they dry so fast. I will try using oils for that in future.

Hey Paul, thank you and there is always the discussion about painting eyes on 1/35 figures. I´ll try to keep the eyes as little as possible to avoid big comic like manga eyeballs. Sometimes eyes are looking good, sometimes not. Sometimes it depends on the modelling abilities of the manufacturer.
Painting with oils makes it a little bit easier to erase mistakes, but the drying time is long.

I usually blend oils at the boarders but I will try your dry brush technique. Thx.

Maybe you know what to do, after dry brushing give the oil paint a good amount of drying time (12 to 24 hrs)before you go on and seal your paint job with an acrylic varnish.

@@DIORAMUS- I use the Winston Newton oils that are water soluble. They have a shorter drying time.

Very nice painting on the figures, I never thought about using oils over acrylics for highlights. I have been experimenting with glazes but it is good to know there are other methods to try. Thanks 👍

Hi, could you tell me what you use to dilute the Tamiya acrylics to use on the brush.

    • @DIORAMUS-
      @DIORAMUS-  2 місяці тому +1

Hello Joao, you can dilute Tamiya acrylics with ordinary tab water but they dry very soon. For a longer drying time you can dilute them with isopropyl alcohol but this choice is expensive. I use Tamiya acrylic colours only as a base coat. If you want to paint only with acrylics a wet pallet is helpful.

Hello Monty, thank you so much for your sub. Highly appreciated. The figures I used are from "Stalingrad Miniatures". A russian manufacturer but with a worldwide distribution I think. I´m from germany and I purchase my figures and other stuff from local online suppliers here in germany. Maybe you are from U.S. or U.K., you can look for figures by Andy´s Hobby Headquarter. As I know he provides a world wide distribution with online stores in U.S. and Europe. I hope you find what you want and I wish you a nice weekend.

Thank you James, in this case they are from a russian manufacturer called "Stalingrad". You can search for Stalingrad miniatures in the net. In my opinion, the figures are too expensive for the quality offered.
