If you get a metal valve instead of a tissue valve, you will need a blood thinner .

Not always...In my case, I had suffered from AFIB for five years prior to having an Ablation procedure--which has cured my irregular heartbeat...three months after that, I had the TAVR procedure done. Because AFib can come back, even after an ablation, my cardiologist wants me to stay on blood thinner (Xarelto) for the rest of my life. I agree! The TAVR procedure was also a 12-hour event for me..."In at 5am, procedure done around 10am, mandatory bedrest at the hospital for six hours, then I went home!..Very smooth operation, and I never experienced pain of any sort...Modern medicine is just amazing! At age 76, my new valve is supposed to last around 15 years...I am pretty sure it will outlast me! But at least, my last several years on this planet will likely be more pleasant.
