- JSerra was hosting Mater Dei after a tough road loss to Santa Margarita while Mater Dei was coming off a high, beating St. John Bosco last week. The Lions who have given the Monarchs problems over the last two meetings were looking to get back in the win column but would have to clamp down on junior sharpshooter Luke Barnett. They did just that. Barnett was scoreless until under 3 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. Great defense forcing tough shots, Barnett couldn't really get going offensively. Meanwhile Brannon Martinsen who played with the Monarchs for the last two seasons before transferring to JSerra, had it going scoring all of his 15 points in the first half. BJ Davis-Ray was a consistent threat all game finishing with a game high 20 points gave the Lions a life in the 2nd half. With the game tied at 30 apiece, JSerra would go on a 12-3 run to the close out the 3rd quarter to Keep Mater Dei at bay. Sophomore Demarcus Henry had a great performance with 15 points while Luke Barnett scored 17 points in a last ditch effort to make it close at the end. With full court pressure JSerra freshman Ryan Doane was the one tested to make plays at the rim and he did just that scoring 4 big buckets down the stretch ending with 11 points 11 rebounds as JSerra held off Mater Dei to go 3-1 in Trinity League play. The Monarchs drop to 2-1, 14-5 overall.
