- Corona Centennial has been a power in the Big VIII for so many years. Last year the Brayden Burries led Roosevelt Mustangs broke through that dominance with a Big VIII Championship. This year they are the perennial favorites not only to win the league but to compete for a CIF-SS Title. Centennial, coached by Josh Giles started the game with a bang going up 8-0 behind two deep threes from CJ Richardson. A Brayden Burries dunk got the Mustangs on the board but as a team Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball. Even though the outside shooting wasn't there early, they managed to get to the free throw line to manufacture points. Centennial led 18-17 after the 1st quarter but that would be the last lead they held. Burries connected from three and the Mustangs were off and running building a 13 point halftime lead. Myles Walker and Issac Williamson put on a defensive clinic forcing turnovers into easy buckets and spectacular dunks. For the game, Roosevelt forced 24 Centennial turnovers. Burries was responsible for 29 of his game high 39 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters that broke the game wide open for Roosevelt. The Mustangs get the victory 83-51 to win back-to-back Big VIII Championships and lock in at least a 2nd seed in the open division playoff pool. Number 1 seed Harvard Westlake has one game remaining and will host a Notre Dame team that knocked off Sierra Canyon in the Mission League Semi-Finals.
