How about new travel trailer. The water smells like plastic. Is that safe to drink? Would you do this process? Or is it just time needed for smell to go away?
Nicely done. Good intro, good instruction, good closing. Thanks for not trying to be "funny" or have useless banter with someone else in the video. As a 25 year video producer, I'd give your presentation an A+.
Thank you, great video. I was going to sanitize at home right after de-winterizing, (leaving the antifreeze in my tanks) also leaving bleach in system overnight and then drive 170 miles to my 1st stop of my trip. Do you think that's OK to leave the bleach in that long?
Thanks for making a short right to the point video! So many people on here make video's that were 7 or more minutes. I mean 3-4 minute was them just talking about what they like or dislike to do. Who cares! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching and thanks so much for the kind words! BTW, I’m no longer on this channel but you can see my recent videos at ua-cam.com/users/bobdawsonrv-smart. Please subscribe!
Howdy, and thanks for sharing the video with us. I have used the bleach solution in the past, and it worked good. Yep, a lot of folks tell you to drive or tow your RV for the sloshing process, I've done that one time. I was told that over time fungus can form in the fresh water tank, and the sloshing will break that down. Well, I did find some brown gunk on the filter in my water pump, so I'd say it might be good to slosh now and then... Not long after I got my FifthWheel there was an awful stink in the water from the hot water tank. I was told to pump at least 3 big bottles of Hydrogen Peroxide in the tank, then fill it with water. After the tank was full, fire it up until the water very warm, and let it sit overnight, then drain... That worked like a charm... No more stink. So thumbs up buddy on your video, You a new Sub here...
Great vid! I have heard of people putting a couple of litres of lemon cordial into their tank after flushing with bleach. It helps mask any initial residual bleach taste that may be left until you fill the tank a few times. I think that it sounds plausible? What are your thoughts? Regards, Jas. vk4fjgs Rockhampton Queensland Australia
Hi, Jas S, Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words. Wait, let me get this straight ... you're suggesting putting a couple liters of lemon LIQUEUR in the fresh water tank? A half GALLON? I'd say hard pass on that. I suppose you could put a few OUNCES of lemon JUICE, perhaps, but a liqueur would put so much sugar in the tank that I'd worry about stuff growing in there. BTW, I'm no longer on this channel. I can be found now at ua-cam.com/users/BobDawsonRV-Smart Please subscribe!
@@BobDawsonRV-Smart LOL, not liqueur, a cordial is just a fruit based water flavouring often made for kids parties or just general drinking. I will have a look at that channel. Regards, Jas.
Moving into my first RV in a few weeks. I'm not sure I feel good about letting the bleach treated fresh water flow freely out of the low point drain valve onto the ground or pavement below. I have a 60 gallon fresh water tank and that seems like a lot of water to dump under my RV (twice). Wouldn't it be better to flush my toilet a few dozen times and/or run some water into the sinks (essentially sanitizing the black and grey water tanks at the same time) and then flushing all that out and down the sewer?
new guy with maybe a dumb question. When you say bleach are you meaning like clorox or something else. Bleach doesn't smell like chlorine at least to me. To me chlorine smells like a swimming pool
Household bleach is a liquid that contains sodium hypochlorite, which is simply chlorine in its liquid form. Bleach, however, is typically only 5 to 6 percent chlorine.
Here's a tip from astute viewer Don Hubner via website email: "I have been RVing for many years in trailers and motorhomes. My favorite and easiest way to get the bleach into the water system is this. I have an extra external water filter housing like the one I always use whenever hooked up to any water system. Just figure out how much bleach you need for your size water tank. Pour that amount of bleach into the filter housing without a filter in it. Close the filter, hook it in before your water hose to the RV and fill the tank. No funnel no tubing and you get to sanitize your water hose along with the tank. Naturally everything then needs to be flushed as usual."
I just have a quick question recently bought a brand new truck camper and it was winterized from the factory and still is winterized do I need to sanitize the water before first use of the truck camper?
Great video! Would you do a video on tank disinfection using Kings Water Systems? We make a hand held machine that creates ozone , hydrogen peroxide and chlorine. It is designed to not only kill all bacteria but reduce orders and tastes.
Yeah, just glad we didn't soak the camera. Happens to everyone, once, I suppose. Moving too fast ... Hopefully we save some folks from that embarrassment!
Same thing that is in any city water system in the U.S. Toxicity depends on concentration. If you take vitamins, they also can be toxic if taken in too high of concentrations.
Quick. Concise. Accurate.Easy.
Thank You!
Good video!
Excellent video, Dan! This method solved my problem within minutes of adding the bleach solution. In my case, no need to add baking soda.
So turn on all faucets at same time?

Good stuff. My kind of video. To the point and no wasted conversation…I’m waiting for my 4 hours now. Thanks Dan
Is it OK to do this process without the bypass hot water heater open? In other words, not sanitizing hwh? I usually do it while it's still winterized.
I'm a new RV owner. Thank you!
Great short and sweet... This should not have to take 20-30 min to explain like other UA-camrs!
They’re trying to make money by making them so long.
Great video THANKS!

Did you turn off the water access to the water heater? I have watched other videos and they recommend that.
Thanks a bunch man, huge help.

Great video ! May I ask how I also clean the hot water tank also? Thank you.

Thank you! Answered so many questions!
So glad
you kept it simple and straight to the point.
Could you just run the taps until the freshwater reservoir goes empty instead of pulling the drain plug and emptying it that way?
Shouldn't the hot water tank be bypassed completely?
Very well done and helpful! Thank you for posting this!

If you are connected to a sewer, yes, that would work. Low point drain for last few gallons to be sure you completely drain the system, though.
I like this guy ! Thank you

Is it necessary to bypass the water heater when performing these steps?
Bypass? No. In fact you definitely want to drain and sanitize the water heater as part this process.

I'm sure your RV dealer, owner's manual and manufacturer would highly recommend it.
Also - be sure to flush the hot water tank as there can be a considerable build up if you are using well water.
Good information.
Good stuff, to the point!
Well edited. Succinct. Great camera work. Just overall excellence. Oh, bleach doesn't smell like chlorine though.

Cool but I feel sorry for you only a 33 gallon tank on that nice rig not very good!

What the heck is a gallon? Who ever heard of such an ancient measure!
Nothing like using a toxic chemical for the drinking water tank.
