My favourite small detail from this scene is that Xavier asks permission to go into Erik's mind, and says thank you after he unlocks the memory. Consent and appreciation, the hallmarks of any great relationship.
What I love is how the first time Magneto tries to move the dish, it's with both hands. After finding the point between rage and serenity? One is all he needs
not only that, but the first time he tries, he's standing in a way as if he's trying to pull it to him. the second time he tries, he's standing in a way as if he's merely beckoning it to come to him
I believe this is the reason why he never unlocked another mutants potential like that ever again...he did it for magneto and he became one of the most powerful mutants on the planet effectively corrupting him, also he believes a mutant should do it on there own accord at there own pace
He didn't really unlock anything for magneto he just told him how he can become better. Magneto still had to apply that knowledge Xavier told him in order to be stronger. I'm pretty sure Xavier gives tips to all his students on how to better control their powers so I don't see how this is any different.
+Junaius Stewart he unlocked a part of his Brain that was keeping him from his potential....that memory he had was a deep memory buried because he wanted to forget the pain of losing his mother, in doing so he unlocked his potential
Charles is OP as fuck. In day of the future past has controlled Erik and his powers. It truly illustrates just how powerful Charles’ telepathic abilities are and shows that even Erik (that is OP as fuck as well) can’t stand against Charles without the helmet to guard his mind. The scene is even more awesome by the fact that he had spent the last few minutes pinned down by debris from the stadium, visibly bleeding, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he had a few broken bones. And none of that seems to affect his concentration. Charles can also one shot the earth with cerebro, if he wants. Fucking Apocalypse wanted his power. He is very strong, like Magneto or more :)
No Snehil, they don't. Now all we get from Marvel (on the majority) is mindless action and annoying jokes that are shoved down your throat in order to sell toys.
bentheredfanmusic you are a fucking idiot if you believe that. Get your head out of your ass kid, the Marvel has way more character development and emotional moments than just “mindless action and jokes”
AA GG what I really like about Fassbender’s performance is that I’m at once charmed by it and frightened by it - he’s proud of himself and delighted with his power
This is perhaps that clip where it solidified my love for Magneto. He is indeed a complex character and one where we all relate to. Between good and bad there is true greatness.
+Arnold Rivas I think a lot of us can even see ourselves in Magneto - a dark part of your life that torments you every single day because of how painful it is, so it seems like the one thing left to do instead of ignoring it or moving on is embracing it and letting it harden you and fuel you.
+Arnold Rivas - but for Charles Xavier as well - AND the friendship between them. That was beautifully rendered - Charles desires his friend's real freedom - and Magneto could trust him to allow him to help him even to the point of allowing him to enter his mind (and note that Charles asked before he did it) - this is what friendship at its best seeks - the healing and freeing of our friends.
I always felt that of all the marvel franchises, X-Men had the best casting choices and the best acting. Michael Fassbender as a young Magneto was fucken genius!
Perfect casting for Magneto I agree, Fassbender kills it. A lot of comic book characters have perfect casting its incredible. Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne (hopefully), Heath Ledger/Mark Hammil as the Joker, Tom Hiddlestone as Loki, the list can go on but those are the truly perfect ones who have made their roles iconic and nearly legendary in cinema
Fassbender McAvoy McKellen and Stewart their castings were amazing but I wouldn't really say the X-Men films have perfect casting a lot of characters are kind of iffy
A relationship that deepens with age and appreciation? Subtle sweetness and bitter recriminations over a lifetime of looking at the world in fundamentally different ways? Who’d want to watch them act together while growing old, like Stewart and McKellen? I mean, c’mon…that’s crazy talk. I think watching the change in 2 young characters as they grow older, reprising these roles would be fascinating. Why don’t The Rolling Stones write songs about the bitter rage of growing old in a young person’s game? Lost mates? Changes and growth? Friends and lovers, as well as foes and hatreds, left behind. The most human experience - growing old.
Jake Green Yes, I have. Fortunately they're not underrated anymore. I meant a couple years back. This movie really helped them, I think. They're getting the recognition they deserve now.
klobasa29 well Michael has 2 Academy Award Nominations for "Best supporting Actor" & "Best Actor" so I think he is not underrated. James still is tho a little but he does have a golden globe nomination
Just watching this one scene is enough to realise why no one else could have played the young Charles and Erik except James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender - they're both phenomenal actors and bring so much depth and emotion to their characters.
*Spoilers* Harry Lloyd did great in Legion as young Charles, but James McAvoy had that much more time and the spotlight to own his version of the character.

Xavier doesn't need to boost Mutants powers to unlock their hidden potential like Apocalapse did. He instead gets inside their heads and figures out their vulnerabilities and teaches them how to overcome them. Are far more powerful tactic....
Well actually no, his ways are more in line with moral and help one better himself on every aspect both his/her mutant powers but most importantly the mindset, healthier way in the long run i agree but Apocalypse has almost godly power. What He can do is basically cheating, he can unlock one's full potential almost instantly and he does not take one's comittement for this work.
"I didn't know I still had that" - every once in a while (as I grow older) I get random long lost memories from my childhood (or past). They always make me feel like Eric in this scene - regardless of whether the memory of a sad part of my life or a happy one!
@@sotl7749 so basically he's saying that in order to actually conquer focus or finish a goal is only when you are in two stages that xavier mentions which are rage (an example of this would be when an individual feels hatred or the need of vengeance against someone or something which keeps you motivated to stay focus and conquer what you want to reach whether is hurting/causing pain to others or proving yourself to being able to unleash that anger ). The second is serenity (which concludes someone who is always peaceful and happy with no remorse whatsoever against the world or anything in particular. This emotional stage tends to always keep you focus because your emotions and heart is at ease in which makes you to thrive more and keep going towards what you are trying to accomplish). In other words, these two different emotional stages can lead towards different outcomes and in the scene it shows how by unlocking peaceful thoughts and not letting anger take control you can be and do more without even trying your hardest. Good and powerful moments such that we posses contribute towards our desire and hunger (focus) to prosper and succeed.
I love the physical acting from Fassbender. Specifically when it comes to his powers. His first attempt had a stance like he was ready to fight. His feet were squared, his body lowered down and ready to move, and his hands held outward like he's going to lash out. It's pretty clear that he only used his powers in combat scenarios before this. But when he uses the right focus, the point between rage and serenity, he stands upright and uses only one hand. He's not trying to force the thing to move with pure force, but coerce it. A subtler touch made by someone who is thinking rather than feeling.
I find it poignantly poetic that it's Erik's mother and Jewish identity that unlocks his powers in the first place with fear and anger, and then they unlock his true potential when he remembers love and serenity. Brilliant scene.
Without spoiling anything theres a superb scene in Apocalypse which serves as a dark parallel to this one, remarkable how just pieces of dialogue and scenes in general eventually pay off throughout the films.
Auchwitz the mentor dynamic is flipped in a sinister way with a different mentor, not the same lines but the unleashing of Erik's powers by unleashing his emotions like here. Lots of lines between Erik and Charles pay off in Apocalypse when Erik makes his final decision in the third act, theres even a black and white call back to the scene where he attempts to leave in First Class and Charles tells him it's not just him he's walking away from.
The fascinating thing about the Auschwitz scene is that Apocalypse does not actually enhance Magneto's power like he did with the others. All he did was teach him how to use it correctly. All that destruction? That was Magneto's own strength.
Powerful, powerful scene. The acting, chemistry and emotional ride. This movie was more than just a Magneto's origin. From moving a coin, to the submarine lift.
Acting as in means of a profession kiddos. It is a profession after all, his career is him being an actor. Referring to his skilled performance in acting. Lol
"It was a very beautiful memory, Erik, thank you." I always thought that was a lovely touch, Charles expressing thanks for that. This, in my opinion, is one of the more perfect scenes out there, and theres much I could say about it, but I love that line.
I always want to cry when i watch this scene. In my opinion it is the purest scene ever in a “super-hero” movie. Their relationship is so epic and this scene is a masterpiece. It’s deep. Their acting skills are insane in this scene. Goosebumps...
I think the content of the actual memory is really important, and probably why Xavier found it. It’s not just a lovely memory of his mother, but also of him embracing his Jewish heritage while feeling only comfort, love and warmth. It’s a part he thought he’d lost, but Xavier saw as screaming out. Hope that he can be himself and not be ashamed of it anymore.
This is also a great display on how mutants use their power, at first magneto is aggressive and trying to basically command the satellite to move but then Xavier reminds him how to feel and he imagine that the satellite is his mama and he reaches out to her...softly and gently
Michael Fassbender's Magneto is by far the best thing about the recent X-Men movies. This scene alone is a main reason why this is still my favorite X-Men movie, barely edging out X2 and Days of Future Past.
Charles: There is good in you Erik. Magneto: it's to late for me Charles. Naruto: There is good in you Sasuke. Sasuke: it's to late for me Naruto. Luke: There is good in you father. Darth Vader: it's to late for me son.
Apocalypse really should've finished with Magneto joining the X-Men. Bring closure to this new trilogy, and to their relationship. Besides, Magneto's been a good guy in the comics for years now, so...
+Jordan Caws yh but the first xmen movie was set in early 2000s so if erik looked 35-40ish in the 90s and in the 2000s he looks like old erik then hes basically aged about 40 years in the space of 10 years lol
I too got teary eyed during this scene. Reminded me of holding lit candles with my Mom as we quietly sang Silent Night during the closing of Christmas Eve service. Absolutely love how moved Xavier was by that memory.
🎭I love the fact that Professor Xavier explained what he accessed in Erik's (Magneto) brain, and "THANKED HIM" for that beautiful memory of erik and his mother. He asked Erik for permission, thus gaining his trust instead of intruding on his memories without his permission. This scene shows Erik's true heart, and shows he wants to be good, not evil. He just wants acceptance, friendship, and a family, like we all do! BRAVO, outstanding scene!!🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
I always love this scene how he pulled himself out from the rage, and hence not only for just developing his abilities, but fully accepting himself from the past which gave him a both serenity and rage. And for the music, at the moment when Erik, he turns the satellite dish, it was GORGEOUS. Giving high respects and thunderous applauses to the actors and all of who made this. Great job!
What a beautiful moment of friendship between Erik and Charles, Erik a man full of pain and torment was given something by Charles that nobody could take away and that is beautiful❤
Reminds me in Xmen 3. Magneto did have great respect and regret for Charle's death despite being opposites in many ways of thinking. And this must be one of his many reasons.....
this hits you in the feels when you had a strong bond with your mom and you lost her and she didn't witness your achievements or success in life. when stress at work and life makes you numb as a person and you forget all the memories and times that you actually were happy and mama is one of those just lingering in you subconscious/unconscious because consciously you still have work to do. made me tear up. miss you ma, you got a lawyer in the fam now.
He has one more super power which is hidden in plain sight and it is Empathy. Not only does he read the mind but also goes through the same pain and understands it. This makes him all the more Human instead of being a Mutant. It's the humans who are the real mutants who simply ignore such basic and fundamental emotions. Shedding a tear for someone's pain is so rare now.
This scene is marvelous... It's not only the acting but the fact that we all have happiness and suffering... But we mostly fail in acknowledging the beautiful part of our life... And by our age we surrender to the negativity.. We become what we were not ever.... Hope Serenity remains in us all the time... And yes the rage is also necessary to fight back when we are down..May the Humanity wins🏆💪😇☺😊
Michael Fassbender did such a great job here. He showed a great transformation of Magneto from being a mixture of rage and anguish to finding something he never thought he had, which makes him still a human being with feelings. And that surprise he felt when he discovered it, made him uncover more depth in himself than ever before - all in mere seconds of the screen time. I wish they'd make a standalone movie about the darker times of young Magneto so that Michael Fassbender could bring us more moments like that.
"There is good too, I felt it. When you can access all of that you will have a power no one can match not even me". Once I thought about destructive power, Magneto reaching his full power, but seen this again, feels like a power to do what is right. All that rage, and vengeance, just gone, and Erick in peace with himself and humanity
This scene truly resonates with me. So much so it inspired a Tattoo that I got. I literally got Rage tattooed on the top of my left forearm above the crux of my arm and Serenity tattooed in the exact same spot on the right. I use it as a reminder for not just this scene but as a Yin and Yang. Rage and Serenity.
xavier's power is actually sheer empathy for all people. He feels.
you'd think so but in the comics... he could be a bit of a extreme dick.
Thats why you dont bring comics here as nothing thats there is here. (or is changed)

Fassbender and McAvoy as the young Magneto and Xavier were perfect castings.
Michael Fassbender's Magneto is by far the best thing about the recent X-Men movies.
This scene alone is a main reason why this is still my favorite X-Men movie, barely edging out
X2 and Days of Future Past.
Charles: There is good in you Erik. Magneto: it's to late for me Charles.
Naruto: There is good in you Sasuke. Sasuke: it's to late for me Naruto.
Luke: There is good in you father. Darth Vader: it's to late for me son.
Ricard de Virgo Brilliant
Jesus 🤣
And then Luke goes and try to kill a kid, because he is afraid of power. That one was worse than Daenerys Targaryen sudden change in the series.
This scene is just beautiful.
A very powerful scene. It never fails to give me goosebumps. This is the moment that cemented my love for Magneto.
The sound that giant metal structure makes as it spins is amazing. It always gives me chills and goosebumps.
Xavier should contribute his powers into the field of psychology.
Funny he actually has a masters in it in the comics lol
The love for one’s mother is a powerful force.
Apocalypse really should've finished with Magneto joining the X-Men. Bring closure to this new trilogy, and to their relationship. Besides, Magneto's been a good guy in the comics for years now, so...
...it's going to keep on going until it catches with the present, next one will be in 1990's
***** Which is bullshit. You can only skip so many years with the actors looking exactly the same as they did in the 60s.
+MrJedabak yeah but apparently mutants age slower or some shit.
+Jordan Caws yh but the first xmen movie was set in early 2000s so if erik looked 35-40ish in the 90s and in the 2000s he looks like old erik then hes basically aged about 40 years in the space of 10 years lol
+Jordan Caws Moira Mactaggert is NOT a mutant
I too got teary eyed during this scene. Reminded me of holding lit candles with my Mom as we quietly sang Silent Night during the closing of Christmas Eve service. Absolutely love how moved Xavier was by that memory.
That's a good memory. Treasure it. ❤️
So many years have passed since this movie, and this is the scene I remember perfectly, because it was so good
🎭I love the fact that Professor Xavier explained what he accessed in Erik's (Magneto) brain, and "THANKED HIM" for that beautiful memory of erik and his mother.
Great job!
This is just absolute proof that music makes up 50% if not more of the power of a scene
I want Professor X, (James McAvoy specifically) to be my teacher, basically in any subject.
Yeah I also want him, his accent is just amazing
Have you heard of the institute for special young mutants?
Such a beautiful scene of friendship. 11/10 performance!
He had more love with Erik then with Moira and they blew it
@@Stretercto they ended up together in dark phoenix🥰
Very emotional moment in the movie
That smile, that is genuine happiness. Well played. Top actor.
2:15-2:18 Michael Fassbender looks like he could be a great Joker.
+oogity-boogity woogity He looks more like M. Bison from Streetfighter
Looks like Voldemort
he looks like a shark
+Charles Xavier Fish are friends, not food
+cancerjuly1989 OF COURSE!
The Xavier and Magneto relationship really makes this movie great.
The acting is so good here. You actualy feel magneto changing
This scene made me shiver.... Beautiful. Vaughn IS a really good director.
Fassbender's Magneto deserves to be in MCU, even if is a reboot or anything like that.
What a beautiful moment of friendship between Erik and Charles, Erik a man full of pain and torment was given something by Charles that nobody could take away and that is beautiful❤
This is why this is my favorite X-men movie
I love how wise and empathetic can Charles Xavier be. He is a true friend a true leader and he loves them all.
How is it that after watching this scene soooo many times I still get goosebumps. Pure epicness man.
The force unleashed
Fred420m fuck I missed that game.
meanwhile at the telescope, the atronomers are wondering what the f is going on
Reminds me in Xmen 3. Magneto did have great respect and regret for Charle's death despite being opposites in many ways of thinking. And this must be one of his many reasons.....
I can generally agree with the professor's philosophy here. Contentment, that's where the greatest amount of focus lies.
this hits you in the feels when you had a strong bond with your mom and you lost her and she didn't witness your achievements or success in life. when stress at work and life makes you numb as a person and you forget all the memories and times that you actually were happy and mama is one of those just lingering in you subconscious/unconscious because consciously you still have work to do.
made me tear up. miss you ma, you got a lawyer in the fam now.
Probably the best moment in whole X-Men of all time.
I love these two ♥️ chemistry is unreal
There's so much more to you then you know ...more then just pain and anger ...that man preached to my soul 💯
Notice how Eric can’t move the tower with two hands out to manipulate it but when he’s focused he can move it with just one.
This is a conversation Obi-Wan and Anakin needed to have but never did
For anyone wondering, this location is called Englefield house. Visited it 2 years ago. Really gorgeous place.
Man, Fassbender's beautiful when he cries
@SuperSaiyanJohnCenaTrappedInADeathStarPokeball look at him, I tell you.
Also MacAvoy too. Both of them are the perfection.
He’s fine as hell
Such a powerful Scene…performed by two of the best actors of their generation!
I come back to this scene time and again, whenever I'm feeling a certain way... and every single time, it leaves me in tears.
"I didn't know I still had that." 😢
The most beautiful scene in the whole X-Men movies.
You know that this scene powerful to raise 1.2 million to seek this scene alone.
Fassbender nailed the magneto role. I hope we can see him as magneto in the mcu too
Hahaha this scene is *magnetically* amazing because i feel so *attracted* to watch it again and again.
"There is good too, I felt it. When you can access all of that you will have a power no one can match not even me". Once I thought about destructive power, Magneto reaching his full power, but seen this again, feels like a power to do what is right. All that rage, and vengeance, just gone, and Erick in peace with himself and humanity
Charles: True focus comes in between rage and serenity.
Apocalypse: I’m about to end this man’s whole career...
This is honestly my favorite Marvel movie man. Always been a fan of X Men. Movie is pure heart.
I agree these 2 actors did great job portraying young xavier and magneto..great actors
Fassbender and Mcavoy’s acting in these movies is just phenomenal.
As you would expect from Stewart and McKellen's understudies.
@@LukeLovesRose well there is a chance that it wouldn’t be as good as it was. These two were flawless
@@dbodooley Yeah. I'd say we got pretty lucky. Good luck in replacing these great actors, Disney
When that one childhood memory hits you out of nowhere

Somehow a single teardrop demonstrated more emotion than either one of them bawling.
