Indochino suit honest review (not recommended)

- I hate to do this. One part of me feels bad that this may take away customers from a business especially now during a pandemic. But I’d also hate for people to waste their money on a suit like I did. It’s currently my second most expensive suit but the lowest quality and biggest headache from ordering to having the final product.
I know I’ll probably get some hate for this review. I just wanted to be honest. You may have a different experience then me. Your suit may end up fitting and feeling better. If you get an Indochino suit, I hope your suit and experience is better than mine.

I have several high end suits. Canali blue, zenia, hi hey freeman (20-25) my build is athletic. I purchased my first Indochino suit as well as a couple of shirts and was very impressed with the quality and the affordable cost. I am a customer for life. Love my super 140’s suit.
Honestly ive bought about 6 suits from IndoChino and pretty much all were fantastic. Now I went for Charcoal flanne, Prince of Wales, Navy Blue, and herringbone. All these fabrics were really high quality. This was a few years back.
I do agree on the measurements side of things. Unless it something structural arm and legs length should always be done with a local tailor...
I’m glad your experience was better than mine.
I actually cancelled my indochino order after watching this video. Thank you for the info.
I’m glad you were able to.
I have another suit review for a company called NCG Tailor coming out soon. It just came in the mail. Haven’t recorded it yet to tell you if it’s good or not. If you can afford it, Oliver Wicks is my favorite. I recently ordered my 2nd suit from them. It’s my tux for my wedding later this year.
It cost is a major requirement, you can sometimes find something pretty decent from Men’s Warehouse clearance.
Order like 2 or 3 and keep the best one. Then get it tailored.
Have you tried suit supply? I decided to go with a made to measure with them.
I've heard many good things about oliver wicks, I definitely have to check them out.
Suit supply is on my list to try.
Just emptied my indochino cart! Thank you
Check out some of my other mtm suit reviews. Might find one you like.
I deliberated for months about tailored suit options. I watched loads of videos on you tube and ultimately decided to get a suit made by a local tailor. It's one of the most precious items I own. I fits like a glove. And I only really spent double on what I would have forked out on one of these online options which I realise now are over complicated and risky. My advice would be. save up a bit more and just go and get a suit made by a tailor. It's hassle free, hand stitched and so much more personal. Great video.
Your dad jokes deserve their own UA-cam channel. You are legendary
Thank You! they keep it fun.
Thanks forvthe review, I was about to order my first suit through them because none of the suits at JC Penney fit right. Now I won't. I appreciate you saving my time and money!
You could order through Hokerty if you want something made to measure. They are reasonably priced compared to indochino.
If you need something quick or less expensive, men’s warehouse clearance. Order a few if you can and return what you don’t want for a refund. Then if you need to you can take it to a local tailor for minor tweaks.
I must have hit the lottery. My blazer, fitted at a store near me, fit darn near perfect the first time, minor adjustment made at store for free. Quality, fit and finish where great for the price. Maybe having a local store and good sales people make the difference. I just ordered a second sports coat after picking out a fabric in the store (which looked nothing like online photo). Will see if I win again.
The hero I didn't ask for. Just can't trust these other "influencer" type reviews. They're 🧢. Thank you for saving me from a $600 mistake.
So glad I was able to help. I’ve reviewed a few other made to measure companies. Check them out. Hopefully you can find what you’re looking for.
Love watching this video keep up the good work man
Thank you!
I’ve upgraded the camera and audio since that video.
Your sleeves need to be a lot shorter to show a bit of cuff. Either than that I don’t think it’s a bad fit. At least at a first glance.
ICU! lol thank you!
Wow was about to take my dad to indochino which is 20 minutes away but after your review, I may just not waste our time.
I went to the one in Charlotte, NC.
Very friendly. But all they really do is measure you and then submit your order online.
I think the specific style guide doing the fitting probably has a heavy impact on how the suit will end up. I tried out Indochino thru one of their locations here in SoCal. Fortunately, my style guide was this sweet fellow who seemed to have some solid fashion sense! Conversational skills were great & he came off genuinely passionate about his work.
2.5 weeks later I received my suit. My only real issues were:
> The foot opening on the pants being roughly an inch too wide for my liking
> And I preferred the taper on the suit to be slimmer...for lack of a better term, I wanted more of an “hourglass” type of appearance
I went back their showroom for alterations. I thankfully managed to work with the same associate. He gave me a similar timeframe as they extended to you, “2-3 weeks”. Out of curiosity I wanted to know why? The gentleman explained that all their alteration work is done via an “In-House Tailor”. But, due to the pandemic, Indochino cut their Tailor’s working hours to about 2 days/week. I’m not sure if this statement would be true for all showrooms across the board, but at least for my local Indochino, this is their situation at this time.
Only about a week has passed since I attended my alteration appointment. Since I only required seemingly minor changes, I have high hopes!
I’ll be sure to update here once I get my garments back.
P.S. I greatly appreciate your review! I don’t have any sort of recording equipment or knowledge of producing a UA-cam video myself. So, I thought I’d simply share my experience amongst the comment section! 😅
I sincerely hope yours comes out better.
Since you went to their showroom, when you go to pick it up, ask for the measurements they have. You may be able to use them in the future. It’s a lot easier than trying to retake them.
Were they able to fix it to your liking?
I used to have Joseph A. Bank do my suits/tuxedos, but when they left town, I was stuck until I discovered Indochino was at Nordstrom. I have just got my fourth Indochino product and it fit perfectly. The only fix needed was a hemming of my trousers legs. My Style Guide treats me as if I am his only customer (I do happen to know that I’m one of his favorite customers because I don’t make his job overly difficult like some other guys he deals with) and the result shows every time. I believe that these suits will last more than ten wears. If a suit fails like that, it would be a disaster for any company, not just Indochino. Do yourself a favor and try them again, only get a suit of sturdier fabric (they make them). You might be surprised how a better fabric holds up through many wearings. Just remember to work with a style guide to achieve your desired results.
I cycle through multiple suits every week and I would hope that each one lasts for at least a decade and a half, or more. Quality garments are expected to last even longer than that with proper maintenance.
I had a similar experience where it took like 2 complete remakes to get the right fit. So I waited months before I had my suit. I still wear it to special occasions today but I know what you mean about the material... It feels paper ish
I donated mine. I got annoyed every time I wore it.
I’m getting ready to start reviewing affordable suits from places like men’s warehouse, seats, jc Penny, and other retailers.
One of my favorite suits was from the men’s warehouse clearance. Tommy Hilfiger. Hopefully, the videos will help people see what’s good and what’s average.
I'm late to the game here -
Thanks for an honest and helpful review.
My take? eBay or new -
Hickey for workhorse suits,
and with some care, Coppley, Sammy, Canali, and Zegna.
I’m glad I listened. Didn’t know they could remake it.
Thanks for the honest review. I currently do MTM through Men's Warehouse. Was doing the 4hr drive to the nearest showroom, but maybe I'll just stick to Men's Warehouse for now.
Haven’t done MTM with MW yet. Might have to look into it.
I've purchased a fitted overcoat.. haven't received it yet... I hope I have a different experience
Me too
Thanks, I was about to try them!!!
Appreciate the review. Thankfully I had a bit better experience, after some initial hesitation. I'm in Houston and tried out the Galleria location. I wen't their once about two years ago, and was super unimpressed by the staff, and ended up not ordering anything. I had a friend talk me into giving them another try. I went in on the 26th of Nov, had a much better experience, and just got my suit delivered yesterday.
*TLDR* IF the measurements are done well, the suit comes out pretty nice, but staff is real hit-or-miss on skill level. A better option than most "designer" suits like Hugo Boss, the lower lines of Burburry or Brooks Brothers etc... Clearly doesn't measure up to the likes of Ermenegildo Zegna, Canali, Corneliani, or Luciano Barbera, etc... but much, much, cheaper. Great for filling out a collection.
*Full Breakdown*
For the $299 sale price I bought this for, I absolutely couldn't be happier. For general information, I'm 6'3" 220 with a 48" chest, a 39" actual waist and typically wear a 36x34 in a pant. So I typically have a good bit of tailoring done to anything OTR to get it dialed in to my liking.
Jacket, all the way around, is a great fit. Perfect size through the shoulders, good slope for my build, proper pitch on the sleeve (again, for my personal build). Functional button cuffs right at the length I prefer and specified in the fitting process. Button stance is perfect, and waist taper is spot on.
Vest is sized perfect. Length is just right. Good fit through the chest and a good taper for the waist, without being too snug.
Pants were perfect on the leg opening and length. I haven't gained a pound since the initial fitting, but find the pants to be about a 1/2 inch too snug. Not too tight as to be uncomfortable, or straining, but I'll have them let out a tad in the future. Not even worth running downtown to Indochino for. They're close enough, I'll just drop them at my personal tailor next time I'm over his way.
Construction and materials... is honestly pretty good. Handling back-to-back with one of my Canali or Zegna (mainline) jackets, it's clearly not in the same category. Much stiffer feeling through both fabric and construction. The Canali I compared it to, for example, seriously feels like wearing a long-sleeve T-shirt. It's sooo comfortable and naturally moving as it drapes on the body. The Indochino has a decently cut armhole, and had an overall good range of motion, but just doesn't measure up on overall feel and comfort. Part of that's due to what's simply lower grade fabrics, lining, and the "half-canvassed" construction.
It actually does compare pretty well to a couple Hugo Boss and Brooks Brothers suits I own (which are fused construction). Blind folded, there's a clear difference in feel from my upper tier OTR full canvassed brands, but I can't truly mark any difference in feel, visible stitching quality, and other build elements between the Indochino and my lower tier OTR suits. I would absolutely buy 2 or 3 more suits like this from Indochino over a single fused suit from Hugo Boss, Armani Collezioni, Brooks Brothers, other fashion brands etc...
One particular thing I would change is the lining material. It's not terrible, but is a 52/48% poly/viscose blend. At least it's nearly 50% viscose, so it should breath pretty well, but of course I would prefer 100% viscose or cupro.
I’m glad to hear you had a better experience.
I’m in the process of trying out a Sene suit. Need a few revisions before I can do the review.
I thought about buying a suit from them, but I'll stick with Spier and McKay! So sorry you are disappointed with your purchase, Sir.
Like your channel. Really down to earth. I have been eying Oliver Wicks for a while now. Just from the look of the suits and fabrics they seem top notch. I am a big fan of Spier and Mackay. They too have quality fabrics as well as MTM. Their clothing fir well for me, I'm a dad LOL. They are around the same cost as Oliver Wicks except for their off the rack which is quite reasonable along with their frequent sales. I am more of a Sport Jacket guy than a suit guy but Oliver Wicks is on my list to try.
- All the best with your channel
Most of the time I do sports jacket and jeans. About once a week I’ll do a suit unless I have to go into one of the corporate offices at work, then I’m in a suit. It’s not required, but I feel better in one.
Sport and Mackay is on my list of companies to try. I’ve heard great things.
I love the oliver wicks suit. The fabric, the construction, and even the cut. It’s European so the way it’s cut has a slimming effect.
I’m actually glad I found this review, I was pretty close to ordering one at the recommends of a friend.
The thing about it is. . I’m not sure I need made to measure.
I fit things off the rack like a.. mannequin, except that I have to take a roll out of the neck (maybe I don’t have enough trapezius muscles ?)
I have just always wanted the “luxury experience “ of M2M..
but going off of the other comments here, if I’m used to corneliani, canali, Zegna- I would be disappointed in the quality of a budget M2M.
Also I have sensory autism.. I can’t wear scratchy or uncomfortable clothing at all.. that’s how I figured out I needed the mid tier off the rack stuff, at a minimum.
I’ve always wanted a Ralph Lauren Purple or Oxxford.. but that’s $$$$
At that point one could probably get a true Bespoke suit in Atlanta (the closest big city )
I’m in Atlanta now. Work conference. Leaving tomorrow.
I should be picking up my Jo’s bank custom suits this or next weekend and will be making a video. They size you, you customize it, they make it in a few weeks, you try it on, they do some additional tailoring (this is the part I’m at) and then it’s ready to bring home.
Great review!!! A lot of thing should’ve been changed on the suit by the re. The buttons are too high for your body. Their rep should’ve noticed that tailored that to you. Also the bottom part of the back of the jacket is too high. It should cover the rear end. The lapels are also to narrow you. All of these should’ve been noticed and changed by the rep.
It really wasn’t a good experience. However, it was better than the suit I got off of wish. LOL.
Purchased a couple pants from them, after 2 refitting and remeasuring they made it worse the second time. I gave up and will tailor them myself
Sorry to hear that.
I got an Indochino suite online and used my measurements from other suites and took them with a tape measure, it was huge and just awful. Looked like a clownsuit. I took a long drive and went to the showroom. They took the suit back and took new measurements. Fast forward a few weeks, and it still didn't fit well. The seat of the pants was too tight, I'm afraid to rip the seam just getting in and out of the car. I agree, the fabric feels thin and has no give. So I spent all that money on a suit I don't wear anymore.
Sorry to hear that. I got rid of mine years ago because it never was right.
Nice straight to the point review of your experience. Sadly it didn't go so well. At least you got a good video out of it haha.
Thank you for the honest review. I saw a display in Nordstrom (where I buy $2,000 Canali suits). My first thought was, for $499 there is no way they can be good. A nice Hart Schaffner and Marx is about $700 or $800 in Dillards; get it tailored and it'll look like it's twice as expensive. Bottom line is, you get what you pay for. And by the way, probably the main reason that Indochino is uncomfortable is, the cheap fabric.
I really didn’t like the Indochino.
The Oliver wicks are around 750-1,000 and so much better quality for MTM. I really want a Lanieri.
According to the Tailor I had, Indochino's algorithm is janky and the suit will come out better if the algorithm doesn't think your body can exist. At that point the Tailor is able to submit their own measurements to be used cause you obviously do exist and the suits tend to come out better.
I got my suit today and I was so excited to try it on, but like you, I thought it looked somewhat cheap, but what’s worse the sleeves were about 5 inches short and the pant legs came up to the top of my socks!!! It looked like something you’d see on a clown at the circus. Very disappointed. They don’t do refunds but I wish I could just get my money back.
I’m very sorry to hear that.
My indochino suit was one of the reasons I started this channel. The reviews online were all good. Too good. You could tell a script was used cause they all say the same thing. I wanted to find a way to help people avoid my troubles.
So happy to see this review especially from someone with a body type similar to me thanks 🙏🏾
Glad I was able to help.
Hopefully some of my other suit reviews can help give you some other options.
This video is right on. My experience with Indochino was COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. The jacket was 8"-10" too big. The pants were really baggy and WAY too short. The leg openings were really wide. This brand is an ABSOLUTE SCAM. The way they write their policies are very tricky. It's done in a way that you cant get a refund even though they provided GARBAGE....
STAY FAR AWAY FROM INDOCHINO
I’m sorry I couldn’t have helped you before you bought it. If you’re looking for something good and affordable, Jo’s bank. If you’re looking for top quality, Oliver wicks is the best I’ve reviewed; so far. I still need to try several other higher quality MTM. I’ll get to them in time. Hope this helps.
Great review. You earned my sub today.
Thank you very much, I’ll do my best to keep it earned with each video.
@@TheDadBod Dad joke back at you.
What’s red and bad for your teeth?
A brick
Funny story.
About 15 years ago I was a huge Red Sox fan. I was walking past Fenway Park and they were replacing some damaged bricks. I grabbed one that had been put in. Technically it was a part of Fenway for a few minutes.
Cut to about a year ago. It has been in the garage on a shelf for a very long time. Nearly forgotten.
I had to work late. I got home and my fiancée and daughter were in the garage looking for a board game. They heard me. But didn’t know it was me. They grabbed the first thing they could, my brick. Luckily, they never swung and i was able to keep my teeth.
Thanks for the warning
Hey there, I’m getting married in a few months and new to the whole suit thing. I’ve always had trouble with suits bc of my body frame where I have broad shoulders and a slimmer waste. It always tends to look too big around the stomach area. I was looking at indochino to get some custom measurements but apparently they’re no good according to your review.. what would you say I should do/where I should purchase from? I don’t want to spend too much over $1k in total but I do want a quality tux for my wedding day.. thanks a lot
From the ones I’ve tried so far, I would say Oliver Wicks.
How far out is your wedding? For your first suit it could take 3-5 weeks to get your suit, if it needs to be remade to get your perfect size, it could be another 3-5 weeks.
If you have the time, I would absolutely go with them. It may only take 3-5 weeks and then minor tailoring at a local tailor shop. But the quality is amazing.
If you need something sooner, I would recommend hockerty. They were much quicker. About 2 weeks. Quality is good from my experience so far. A bit less expensive than Oliver wicks. Much better quality than Indochino.
Or, if you’re really in a pinch, you could go to a men’s warehouse and find your size. (For me it’s 48 long with stretch material, or 52 slim long) then find a store that has ready to ship tuxedos, and have it tailored to fit better. That would work if you have less than a month.
@@TheDadBod thank you for the response man! I’ll be getting married in May so I do believe I have the time. I may go with Oliver wicks based on yours and others reviews. Going for the midnight blue tux. Do you recommend going to a public place to get al the accurate measurements or is a measuring tape at home with my fiancé easy enough?
Hey thanks for the review.I also agree the suit is nothing special. But I don't understand why you chose this fabric.By the way, in my opinion you would look like a boss with a wider lapel since you are a bigger guy.I do like the pocket square.
You’re gonna love my answer.
I chose that fabric because it looks like one of Tony DiNozzo’s suits from NCIS. I loved that suit and wanted my own.
I recently tried on a wider lapel suit, it does look a lot better. Gonna be getting that from now on.
@@TheDadBod ya I Later saw the navy suit u reviewed,much nicer,great suit,much nicer fit.
I love that Oliver wicks suit
Thanks. This is very disappointing. Do you recommend a made to measure suit maker?
Check out my newest video
You did not order the best fabric ...the suit looks good.My advise go vintage and have the vintage suit tailored.
Imagine taking tailored clothing advice from a guy wearing a black shirt.
Go ahead. Buy a few Indochino suits. Won’t bother me. But don’t come crying to me in the comments when you get exactly what I warned you about.
I hate how complicated and long this process takes. Then it doesn’t even work. What are we supposed to do ☹️
Check out my reviews for Oliver Wicks and Hockerty. I had much better luck with them. I’ll be trying out some other companies soon as well.
Try balani custom suits
I’ll look into them.
awesome review, thank you. all the other “reviews” are sponsored and get free suits.
Many are in my opinion.
So…now I’m seeing this. I’m 2 weeks post first order so I don’t have the suit yet, and now I’m kinda dreading getting the suit. This has me thinking $450 down the drain. I thought something was off during the measurement phase - but chalked it up to my lack of experience. The guy who was doing the measurements kept asking someone else if he was doing “it right”…whatever “it” was.
Wow, that sucks. Yeah, Indochino was my worst experience with buying a suit so far. I wanted to like them, I wanted to like the suit. Especially with how much I paid for it.
Every time I wore the suit I was reminded of how much I overpaid for it, and that it still didn’t fit properly. I’m gonna be getting a new suit in a month. Still deciding who to go with for the next one. Could me MTailor, Itailor, suit supply, or studio suits. I haven’t decided yet.
@@TheDadBod I like the idea of MTM - just didn’t know what it was called prior to this journey. Now I see that several are doing it. I just didn’t and don’t trust myself to measure properly. That was the appeal of going to Nashville to get it done.
I was in Nashville back in November. The Indochino in the green hills mall is the one I think you’re referring to. I stopped at the Jos Bank there while I was in Nashville. I used to live a few minutes from the green hills mall, used to work at the Ruby Tuesdays that used to be there back in 2006.
I got mine in Charlotte. It’s an hour and a half from me.
Jos bank has nice quality suits. Off the rack so they need a little tailoring. Oliver wicks has awesome quality MTM but are a little pricey at around $900. But worth it in my opinion. I plan to get a Lanieri MTM suit eventually now heard they’re great quality like Oliver wicks.
I’m about to do a video on Sene suits. Not as formal but great for in the go. Hockerty is ok. Not my favorite. Needs more attention to detail.
@@TheDadBod That’s the store. I’m considering Tom James as they’re kinda sorta close to me.
I’ve got a Tom James nearby. Gonna hold off on them so I can really splurge and get a top quality suit.
Bought 2 suits asks works not recommend. Fabric is paper thin so it does not sit well. It’s like making a suit with cheap t shirt fabric.
I just ordered both custom Jo’s bank suits. Hopefully it goes well. 4-6 weeks till I get it and I’ll have a video shortly after that.
Yeah, Indochina reviews are everywhere... crappy customer service and subpar suits. They advertise like crazy, but they should be spending the money on quality control.
On top of that, they pay youtubers to read from a script giving them a positive review. If you watch enough of the videos, you start to hear the same phrases in nearly all of them.
I’m working on getting more companies reviewed.
I’ve done Indochino, Oliver Wicks, Hockerty, Wish (that one was funny). I’m waiting on an Alain Dupetit suit and in February I will be ordering an MTailor suit. Might be getting a second Oliver wicks to review. Almost likely a tux for my wedding later this year.
You honestly may be the best guy on the web but its difficult for me take your review serious when it seems as if you are breaking one of the most basic rules of the sartorial world by not unbuttoning your jacket when you sit. Am I wrong?
That rule is almost always defied when on video. It does cause stress on the buttons but it looks better. Check out any news show. That is the only time I don’t unbutton is when I’m recording.
Respectfully, w a vest underneath, it would probably look ok unbuttoned while sitting down
Not convinced this is a legit review
Read the comments from other people. There is quite a few who said they wish they saw this before buying an Indochino suit.
@@TheDadBod I'm naturally skeptical
Me too. I understand.
That’s why I started this channel. I spent a lot of money on a crappy suit. Then saw comments from people who did the same. So I wanted to give unpaid reviews of things.
I have several things I did not give a good review for. Many of the affordable suits in my playlist got “it’s ok, but…” or “I wouldnt waste my money on this” reviews. Same with kingsman shoes.
I make a good living with my daily job. This is more of a hobby. I don’t need to lie cause I don’t need to do this.
Im a skinny slim fit guy, but this looks like a off the rack suit not fitted at all.
It felt like off the rack from men’s warehouse or something. Did not feel like it was worth what I paid. Nor did it fit like a made to measure should.
Found this review accurate. Horrible suit. Have bought made to measure from many providers and this was by far my worst experience. I also went to the showroom and i left questioning whether the salesman had ever fitted clothing before. I never got fitted with the “sample” suit as described here, which might have helped with the poor fit. Suit I got was nearly unwearable and I wasn’t inclined to waste more time fitting a poor quality suit. Lesson learned.
My suit tailor is nice. Oliver wicks has great suits. I recently placed a black lapel order to try them.
Quite many true facts, like with everything when it comes to menstyle you will have to pay quite much learning money. I think we all did waste huge amounts of money till you find something that is nice or gain the wisdom what is actually good and what isnn't,
Indochino is quite horrible but it is also known, many of those reviews on youtube and elsewhere are paid. And like you said they got them for free so they are forced to give out good opinions.
Most people are surely better off grabing a ready to wear one from Spier and Mackay or others in my eyes.
Oliver Wicks and Black Lapel are better in my opinions but you are also paying the premium fee. I got away from made to messure suits and I found better and cheaper ones off the rack that fit me as good or better.
And you are right the pants are too long and the sleeve length is also too long even after the alterations. You would have been much better off getting to your local tailor. Also when you sit it looks like the jacket is blowing every second.
I got many of my every day wear suits from Men’s Wearhouse. I’d buy many and keep usually only one. Maybe two.l that fit and feel great. And then get it tailored a little.
When I can, I get a nicer suit (I love my oliver wicks suit).
I should’ve watched this before giving them my money….
Great video
I wish I would have listened to this first. Highly disappointed.
Sorry to hear they got you too.
@@TheDadBod Yeah...And when I tell you I am heated, I mean heated. I cannot wait until they open tomorrow. But thank you for your information, at least now I know they will send it back to remake it, if necessary.
Please unbutton when you sit.
LOL. I do normally, just not when making a video.
@@TheDadBod okay. Thanks for the review.
Anytime.
That button was screaming.
