It says a lot about the game when gearing used to be considered a gun boat compared to shima, then it was a hybrid and now it's a torp boat

mfw Gearing is the first DD line I’m grinding and now I’m filled with doubt
Fletcher and Gearing are still good. You can use the line to judge what you like about DD's and grind your next line from that info.
It's still good at everything I just prefer more specialist ships also its a good line if you're a new player because you can give your team value with the smokes
Grinding the line will probably be more fun than the Gearing itself. Nicholas, Farragut, and Mahan are all monter DPM gunboats (like F. Sherman without the gimmicks, and better torps).

Torp boats are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring.
Just a matter of personal preference. There's something supremely satisfying about predicting what an enemy is going to do dropping torpedoes and then going to do something else while they run out there to say hi😂. Imagine the enemy having a perfectly wonderful battle and then your torpedoes show up leaving the only thing he can say is oh f***. It's beautiful!
