I usually perform as a quartet however, when playing solo I like to use the Boss RC50. Here's a short video for you to see how it all works. Technology... love it or hate it, it's all kind of cool.

even after 10 years later watching this, I'm still amazed!!
Thank you
Great talent, from working the looper, to playing the guitar.

Hi John....simply put...you are AWESOME.
Thanks for playing man:)
Very nice! This video serves as a great tutorial, that just gets down to it, and shows how it is done. Bravo!
Wow, you da Guitar Hero! That was the best "meal" my ears had in a while! 8•D
Thank you
Nice to see it done right...thanks
This is great!
I bet man, I can't believe how you use this pedal so much talent and musicality
Im glad you're my teacher John, a true inspiration!
Maybe it's time you teach me some Flamenco? Gypsy Kings maybe :)
3:21, best note ever
helped me a lot. I am new to looping biz
That was a great piece of music John, I am shopping pedals. Awesome guitar playing!
Now those are some pretty sick guitar skills!
Holy smokes! I was NOT expecting that. WOW!
Thanks, John, for the magnificent demonstration.
I've been playing the ukulele for almost daily for 18 months.
This was VERY inspiring.
What tips would you give less experienced players that have been cornerstones that helped you "turn the corner", so to speak?
Thanks, again,
Doug

That was an awesome mix on the fly!! I love it! Your guitar has such a nice crisp acoustic sound...Aloha and thanks for the demo.
I really appreciate your playing. Very nice.
That is fantastic!! Really enjoyed it.
Truly inspiring, John. Just getting started with my RC 50. Wish me luck... I'm gonna need it. lol

@jgilliat Thanks! I realized I was watching your feet when I should have been watching your hands.
Was expecting a video about the rc 50 boss..
Watched a litteral Boss instead.
Thanks brother.. Good job!
This video IMO is timeless, also great quality for a 2009 upload, great signalflow, thanks.
Thank you! 😊
This is awesome! I heard this last night and I can't get it out of my head!
This is great looper material. Well done!
flawless
@crybluesguitar Yes, it's this music is available from my web site johngilliat(dot)com. Nice to hear you liked it. The song is called Nachos from the cd Freedom. You can download the cd for free at the website
Whoa. Serendipity how I love thee. Here I was looking for RC-50 videos as I'm very interested in acquiring one and behold, I've found a guitarist in the style of one of my favourites - Jesse Cook.
I'm definitely going to be checking out your stuff. I think it will take me quite some while to command an RC-50 the way you do even were my playing up to standard but nevertheless I am going to try.
Very inspiring indeed.
Amazing
That's awesome!
very good, bravo!
my respects!
Perfect!!!
beatiiful
Amazing!!!
Now THAT's cool!
Still uplifted and amazed 8~)
Nice, thank you 👍
mate that was pretty damn epic!
Checkout HERCO thumb picks. I think you like them. You can strum or pick with them.
Wow, some of the most extensive use of the RC-50's many features I've seen. Not to mention the incredible guitar skills. Kudos man. I've got a couple vids up of my performances, one with my old RC-20 and one with my new 50. Check them out if you get a chance. Excellent video/performance.
you are awesome!
@arlensuen They occasionally do as i've performed at a few clinics, etc :-)
@stlmusic Thank you!
quality coool
what a genius....
Buenos Nachos
I can't believe out of 20,000 views, not a single thumbs up. Allow me to be the first :) very nice job.
@grey88full I'm never playing 2 phrases at the same time. I'm just jumping from one phrase to the next, either recording or creating an overdub once the phrase has played one loop.
Amazing looping mate!! Have you seen dubfx on the boss looper.
@grey88full as phrase 2 plays I'm playing the scratch live until the phrase 2 loop ends. Then I'm playing and overdubbing the guitar chord rhythm on phrase 2 (there is no scratch guitar on phrase 2). I hope that helps
Hi John, brilliant playing. I've watched the RC50 demos many times. A question I have is are any of your phrases "pre-recorded" or stored or are they all created on the fly? Also, have you tried the new Boomerang II pedal. It looks like you can go through several phrases instead of just stacking tracks, but I dont think it has any memory or storage function. Do you use the memory of the RC50 much or do most of your phrases live? I'm having a hard time deciding between the two pedals.
Thanks for a great performance and inspired use of the RC 50. I just purchased one of these units. Could you please tell me your basic settings? Is it Multi, Loop synch, loop quantize, auto record? thanks again
Brilliance! what do your extrenal 2 boss pedals do please?
@jgilliat After your first scratch beat that's one measure long you start playing phrase 2 but the scratch beat continues. Am I missing something? I will rewatch again to see if I can figure this out. Love what you did with this!
Awesome performance! I have a question. Do you know how to expand the memory of this pedal? Thanks.
@alphasxsignal For me the thumb pick get's in the way. I can't use them.
Love your song! How are you getting phrase 1 & 2 playing at the same time after you record the scratch beat on 1? I know you've got the guide track going but I can't replicate this.
@mrvegas74 Thank you.
@jgilliat Thank you! I was watching your feet and not your hands!
Very nice music and mastery of the guitar and rc50 too
I have a simple question , is it possible to play over a recorded first track and then to switch in recording mode on track 2 (which would stop track1 playing ) , this is for live performance , I guess this is the single mode normal behaviour ?
Brgds
Unfortunately I don't own the RC 50 anymore. I do have an RC 300 however I haven't done any looping in years. so unfortunately I will be unable to answer your question.
do you get that "skip" right after you loop or know how to fix it?
Hi John! Is it possible to have 3 tracks looping simultaneously and then stopping them all at the same time with the pedals and then bringing them all in again at the same time? Thanks!
You can with the RC300 but I can't remember if it's possible with the RC50
Yes, hit the 2 most right buttons at the same time, or use an external pedal assigned to do that because hitting the 2 pedals together can be tricky sometimes :-)
What kind of pick do you have attached to your index finger?
RC50 $550, EQ Pedal $80, Volume Pedal MGear EXP $50 (I think), T1 Bose Mixer $500, AKG C535 EB Mic $300, Mic stand & cables $100, Guitar $2500, In Ear monitors from Live Wires $300. All in Canadian funds
its you,andy and sungha.....
Hello. Can you post the name of all the material you did set up to make this video. Also can you do tutorial to how to set up those equipment??. I do have some of them but don't know how to record with it RC50
The song is one of my own called nachos and it's from the CD that I recorded titled freedom. it's available on spotify. I have a lot of videos on how to play the song along with tabs and charts that you can find at yourguitarschool.com however I do not have the rc50 anymore so I do not have instructions on exactly how I created that video with the rc50
@PacificSiren I don't think there is a way to do what you are trying to do.
I'm in Single mode.
Common!
