Micah Bell to pass a cr500 and that power you need to make a 700-800cc 4 stroke and it’s cone be so Mach weight and remember we have and 700cc 2 you can pass it soo go shat the fuck up end to see how an engine works Yamaha rd 80cc 2 stroke 120 km/h. An 80cc 2 stroke can to shit
Thanks for your comments Chris but they don't apply to the 500. Stock horsepower of 64.6 on a 2001 is developed at 6000 RPM. Also note the torque figures which are nearly twice what a 450 produces. Torque is where it's at. 450's are fun, easy to ride bikes. They just don't quite have the grin producing, fear of God sensation that a big bore two stroke gives you.
Raced a 1985 KTM 500 in 1988, as a 15 yr old boy, man it was exciting, yep after a few laps I couldn't hang onto it and Id crash from arm pump, but the thrill of all that power, had a 1985 cr 500 great fun, just turned 40, and I have just finished restoring my 1988 KTM 500, these 500s are true rocket ships, yes 4 strokes are smooth n nice, but id like to see a 500 2 stroke class back, for me I just like to see which guys could man handle these bikes, they are difficult to ride, but awesome, gone are the days of brutal and exciting, our choices are been taken away from us
Still have my 1985 Cr500 and never rode anything quicker. Just turned 55, and now feel like it is time to get rid of it, before I get hurt acting like a 25 year old.
Spikethedragon brony no doubt the 450s pull, the point all the oldschool riders are trying to make is its NOTHING like a 500 2 stroke. if the 450 pulls, then the 500 pulls you apart (for comparison sake).
+Richard Antley Had an 86' 500MX...beast of a bike. And a lot of people don't realize they were actually faster than the Honda and Kawasaki 500s. More aggressive cylinder porting gave them a harder hitting powerband (and also scarier) haha.
No surprise here i have personally have had my 97' CR500 up 70-80 mph in a wash in moab. CR500 is a sprint bike you will get more top end with different sprocket setup but the CR500 is the best woods bike with a gnarly and torque sprocket setup no 4 stroke compares.
Moral of this story is, no matter what your riding here, dont be the guy behind the 5hundo's or 450's. Unless of course you love that one huge roosted rock in your grill =)
@honda064 i look forward to it... keep riding an be safe...im a 450 guy( i have a modified CRF450R) yu have a cr500 doesn't matter as long as we are having fun... o i meant to tell yu....good video
Those 500cc two stroke are incredibly fast... The only thing really that turns me off about two strokes are that they burn quite a bit more gas/oil than 4 stroke engines and they are not as reliable. Sure if something goes wrong they are very cheap to fix compared 4 stroke motors but still.... Really it comes down to preference! All good and powerful bikes. Its hard to go wrong!
ToxicReaper7 reliable literally what could go wrong it blows up the thing will run if the engine is running it doesn't require assistance by anything else for it to run
great vid really didnt expect to see the 450 demolished like that. i had a honda 250 2 stroke 3 years ago and everybody kept telling be to get rid of it and get with the times and buy a 450 so i did. i really like it but i still miss the sound and the rush u get from the unpredictable power band of the 2 strokes. just hanging on was half the fun.
The newer fourstroke bikes have gotten better but still cannot compete with the simple design of a two stroke engine for power/cc ratio. Look at ktms 125 putting out over 35hp just incredible! Go CR500!!
@c3028040 I agree - my mate picked a 99 Cr500 in Perth last weekend for $5500! That's a lot of money for an old bike. We're taking it out next weekend and see how it holds up to the 250's on the tight tracks - should make for some interesting vid's.
Thing is once Honda made the CR500, they never really made any effort to extract more power from them, enough is enough they seemed to think, about the only engine change from 1990 to 2001 was a trans gear ratio swap. I wonder where they would have ended up if during the 16 years they made them Honda would have tried to find more power year after year and just piled on the power. Here we are a few decades later and the legendary engine still pulls like a boss
@uaintgotThiscbr It's true that a CR500 CAN go from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds, but there are so many variables that it's hard to do it consistently. Three to 3.5 would be a more common time for most riders on dirt. All CR500s aren't the same. The power curve changed over the years. Also, gearing is critical. A 3rd gear start is necessary to get that time, and this means very precise clutch/ wheel spin control. On a loamy surface with a good rider on a fresh clutch and tire, 2.5 is totally doable.
Not sure about anything else on that one. From memory on the 250 i know he had a 38t on the back, not sure about the engine but if you call being less than 60kg a mod then that definitely helped. All the 450 riders in that vid were sizable boys all weighing more than 100kg
ive raced both, i started out competeing beleive it or not on a 1986 cr 500, i was 19 then went down the way to 250 2 strokes, then the fourstrokes hit the scene in 1998 and have riden 4 strokes eversince i think if your just playing around a 2 stroke is great fun but to compete i think the 4 stroke is easier and more forgiving.
i used to race open class with my cr500 when 4 strokes where just catching on. I would ride the clutch in 2nd off the gate and burn then to the first turn then I would get passed and wind up finishing 4th or 5th. I miss those days:)
It's not how fast a bike is, it's how long can you keep the gas on before the corner. Two strokes make much more $en$e for racing, but I love the sound of the 4strokes.
here is a great example of what a 500 two stroke does to the 450's. Same as racing against a 250 two stroke. The real questions is how much wheel spin off the start does the 500 suffer before grabbing?
With right design 80hp 90nm capable 2-strokes with EFI would be possible easily. And they have a very good hp to mpg ratio. 4 strokes should be for safari sightseeings. :)
I drove a CR500 once at the age of 14. It certainly was a kick in the balls. Power wheelie in fourth despite me being placed on the fuel tank, and I'm not skinny...
I have a 2008 crf450r and I once rode a 1983 cr480r and about pissed myself. 4 speed air cooled rocket that would BLOW my crf450 out of the water. Scary power...but no fun at all to ride. So much breaking torque and power it was too much to handle other than wide open on a field
@bonham906 Oh yeah fair enough. Utah might be a little out of the way. We in Australia. Unless your willing to shell out some serious cash you won't get them at reasonable prices i reckon.
Well actually the 2013 450 sx-f made 56.96 HP at 9400 RPM, whilst the honda only made 51.55 at 8900 RPM...according to MXA. And fuel injection isn't possible on a 2 stroke, only direct injection, which is like fuel injection, but different. Yes, a 250 2 stroke could make more power than a 450 4 stroke, but it'll take some development.
@MrSaffa1 ok this is just a point ok a ktm 250 sx-f puts out 33.1 horsepower at 12100 rpm and 16.9 lbs-ft of torque. a crf 450 r puts out 50.5 horspower and 34 lbs-ft of torque with is a lot, but a ktm 250 sx can put out 49.5 horsepower stock and 31 to around 33 lbs-ft of torque with i have seen 250 2 strokes that have put out around 60 hp out with porting and after market stuff done to it with a cr 500 puts out 55 stock but the cr 500 is restriced went the are stock
This is a pretty good area for this type of race. 450s are fast because they transmit power to the ground effectively. If you really want to see a test of outright power then you need a place that can absorb all of the power a bike throws down. Sand is the only place I can hold my 500 open. Put the same paddle tire on both bikes and have at it. Ive been beat by 450s but its rare.
Can Am are working on bringing to the market a New Quad model that will be using a large 2-Stroke Rotax liquid cooled E-tec motor. It will burn much much more cleaner than a 4-Stroke, run faster, more usable non-wasted power, lighter and way cheaper to manufacture and almost zero maintenance compared to 4-Strokes multitude of problems. If a Rotax engine is dialed in correct, they are very difficult to beat plain and simple.
i know this arguement was a long time ago. but i think they missed the golden rule of motors, witch is theres no replacement for displacement! 500 beats 450 no mater what.
Actually with the Aluminum frame my kx250f weighs about 204-220 a stock 450 weighs 220-240 and a 250 2 stroke weighs 230. A kx250f has 35Hp stock a 450 has 55hp stock and a 250 2 stroke has 48hp stock. 4 strokes cost more because they're built to take a hit and last. Never had a single problem in these 3 years of owning my kx250f and getting a crf450r soon ill give you an update on that in a year so you can see they don't break ^_-
I have ridden and raced all sorts of 2 smokes and 4 strokes, at the end of the day the winner is the better rider...and there is A LOT more mods you can do to a 4 stroke engine. One isn't better than the other, just different power and rider preference.
What are you talking about? The yz has been known for their meaty motors and weight is pretty much spot on with other 2 stroke competitors. KTM lists their 250sx at 214lbs without fuel. So tack on another 6lbs or so per gallon of gas and your looking at something like 225-230lbs. The YZ is listed at 227lbs race ready. So they are pretty damn spot on.
@999HitMan666 lol, i am in the orange jacket my bike has been ported and polished and on 2nd bore, the 3 450's r pretty much stock , the yz is stock, the other 2 500's r stock and the 500af has been ported n polished n 2nd bore too. at 3:18 on the right thats the 500af.
two strokes over all have more power than any 4 stroke dirtbike. 2's might burn more gas and oil is because the piston moves so fast it needs extra lubrication. two stroke may have a slower take off and 4's have a faster smoother take off but i think any cr500r will beat a crf450r
Ok. People in the big 2t 4t dispute need to realize this. A 250-4t will only match a 125-2t. Meaning a 450-4t will only match a 250-2t. So why would it make sense to put a 450 against a 500? This video pretty much settled the score. Now it's all about personal limits and personal preference.
Bad start, bumps, ability, maybe some other thing that happens due to the unexpected. The way the engine is built creates more hp. Could you imagine if you grew up watching Jeremy McGrath on his cr250r? I did, and it was great. TING TING!!!!
Man I love this video! It makes the 4stroke guys so mad. Just for the record.... displacement is "bore" x "stroke". I could understand why the 4 strokes were handicapped back in the day. But things have changed now. 4strokes have came along way. A 250 2stroke should race a 250 4 stroke. Who cares about the amount of power strokes of a two stroke. Nobody is talking about the short compression stroke of the two stroke or the amount of fuel thats waisted when it gets blown right out the exhust.
Boost wanker, the 450 has a higher top speed. The bloke on the 450 is a bitch, he isnt riding flat-out & he backs off when he starts to catch the 500. The 450 is giving up 50cc, 8hp, the bang every 2 strokes & with a real rider, beats the 500. Go watch other videos where the 450 flogs the 500. WHY would i be mad ? I blow up 2strokes & the 4stroke beats the 2stroke. This is 1 video with a weak rider on the 4stroke & you spew shit. Go watch a 250 4stroke beat a pack of 250 2strokes for the world championship.
one point people forget is, if you went cc for cc (250 4 stroke vrs 250 2 stroke) there is no competition at all end of fucking story. Im sick of millions of people sayin there 450 will surpass a 250 2 stroke when 4 stroke have to have double or so the amount of cc to even try to think they can compete. Have a nice day!! sweet video btw!!!!!
Nice video, I don't know why everyone has to fight. I prefer 2-strokes myself on a YZ250, my mate orefers 4-strokes oon a YZ250F. Who cares, we all know the 500 stock is a fast bike and no other STOCK bike would beat it. Well maybe another 500. Thumbs up from me.
@tyrannas888 I got to admit that 450 is some tropper but 500 2t vs a 450f that almost asking to be ass whoped. Great viedo. By the way how did the 250 2ts do againest you
@MrSaffa1 mate im only making a point im not trying to argue i just don't get the point why people put down 2 strokes like i have ridin both 4 and 2. i think i only like 2 stokes because thats wat i have been trained to ride.
@yrekabill yes it is 90% rider 10% bike i have riden both 2 but if they made something like a cr450r or a ktm 450 sx put some pro on it and vs it would kill the 450 4 stroke. i hope they do make 2 stoke and 4 strokes in the same class
@tappmoney18 i honestly think the 450 with different gearing will not be any better, one of the 450's in it uses same gearing as my 500 and it dont stand a chance. as u can see in the clip
250 2strokers vs 450 4strokers - this is the rule when riding . But half a liter 2 stroke vs 450 4stroke is like a game with only one goal. The chances is 2:1 when dimensions are equal - 2 stroke wins with less mass, more power, more torque in all rpm's
he is right...and A 250 wont keep up with A 450..nor will A 500...when put on A track...low end and power spreed of the 450's make the 2t useless for most ppl.I'm A 2t fan...but I'm not blind to reality...
the two stroke bikes are perfect and the four stroke bikes are perfect too:) I am just wondering about the new four strokes super powerful and they seem to need more attention than a brand new born baby, where sure the two strokes need attention too, I can work on a two stroke not a new 4 stroke i like and love my 1992 xr 600/old 4 stroke/ and keeping it till they close the lid on my coffin and im day dreaming about a cr 500 just so I can say i have one, shop rate @ honda is $110 an hour uggggg.
you get about 150+ hours out of a 2 stroke if your not racing. and i got couple friends who all have 250 4 strokes and they all need rebuilds every year. My 1 friend has a kx250f, and my other friend has a rmz250... both are slow compared to my cr250. they weight more and cost a shit ton more to fix. my bike only cost 160 bux to replace the top end and a full engine rebuild is 320 bux. Plus i can do it myself. your bike needs valves adjusted/shimmed every 30 hours which cost more then my topend.
man ive ridden 500s and 450s the 500cc in tech specs a 2 stroke 500 is nearly 1,000 CC 4stroke even with the hot motors of the one ring piston CRF450R which I own.
Not surprised the CR 500 won - its always been and always will be a super fast amazing bike.
fernieboy100 wait a few years...4 strokes will come at it and kill it
DctheGr8 _ nah by the time a few years there will be no gas bikes
Micah Bell to pass a cr500 and that power you need to make a 700-800cc 4 stroke and it’s cone be so Mach weight and remember we have and 700cc 2 you can pass it soo go shat the fuck up end to see how an engine works Yamaha rd 80cc 2 stroke 120 km/h. An 80cc 2 stroke can to shit
Micah Bell and that’s because no new 500’s have been made. They could easily make a 700cc 2 stroke they just wouldn’t make as much money off it.
@@kaipopo11 bro please dont say that 🤣🤣that'd be horrible imagine being at a supercross race and hearing nothing but chain slap from the e bikes
I wish that gopro was on a CR500, but then I guess you wouldn't be seeing much of the racing.
450r for the win !!!!!
+William Gingras lol idoit
You mean "idiot" dumdum
lol good one
😱💀💀😹😭😅😂

I bet you all those bikes have top speed sprockets on. Those 2 strokes ripped them up with ezz.
I have a crf450r and a cr250r they are both cool bikes..........different strokes for different folks.
Cool vid. thanks
2-Stroke all DAY!

that 500 smoked em, I love 2 strokes
@tyrannas888 Top Vids. Looks like Central NSW or somewhere. The old 500 have some poke.I Have a 2002 CRE.
May I say TWO STROKES FOR LIFE!!! Like I'm a 450 rider but god I still love that ringing and dinging! Wish I could of bought a 250!
never beat a 500 on the dirt, once it gets in front of you youre getting pelted with shit lol
Man this has got to be one of the best dirt bike drag vids ever! Go the CR500!
Its a pretty close race until that 500 quit spinnin!
@honda064 i look forward to it... keep riding an be safe...im a 450 guy( i have a modified CRF450R) yu have a cr500 doesn't matter as long as we are having fun... o i meant to tell yu....good video
My CRF250L would be like 10 miles behind...lol!
It's all about the torque. The CR500 has almost twice the torque of a CRF450.
Those 500cc two stroke are incredibly fast... The only thing really that turns me off about two strokes are that they burn quite a bit more gas/oil than 4 stroke engines and they are not as reliable. ToxicReaper7 reliable literally what could go wrong it blows up the thing will run if the engine is running it doesn't require assistance by anything else for it to run
2stroke and definitely the big bore 2strokes are way more reliable than 4strokes.
@KristofSX one of the 450's is running 14 x 44 and another is running 14 x 42
great vid really didnt expect to see the 450 demolished like that. i had a honda 250 2 stroke 3 years ago and everybody kept telling be to get rid of it and get with the times and buy a 450 so i did. i really like it but i still miss the sound and the rush u get from the unpredictable power band of the 2 strokes. just hanging on was half the fun.

500 twostrokes rocks! The torque in these machines just killes the competition!
I reckon! The sound of the bikes is all one needs!
@tappmoney18 cheers mate. i do enjoy riding both, they r a complete different bike to ride and both have good advantages. take it easy
I love my crf450, I also loved my cr250 back in the day. But theres no debating, the 500 is one FAST bike that nothing can compete with.
Awesome! My buddy has a 250R and when we'd drag race at the end he'd ask me where I was hiding the turbo on my 500. :)
@c3028040 I agree - my mate picked a 99 Cr500 in Perth last weekend for $5500! That's a lot of money for an old bike. We're taking it out next weekend and see how it holds up to the 250's on the tight tracks - should make for some interesting vid's.

very nice video... it shows exactly that may CR500 and CRF450 output almost the same horsepower (55 vs 50 ps) but 2t are mush faster than 4T.
thank u! someone who shares my opinion! i ride a 4 stroke i love, but i dont hate 2 strokes, i think there quite cool too
Not sure about anything else on that one. From memory on the 250 i know he had a 38t on the back, not sure about the engine but if you call being less than 60kg a mod then that definitely helped. All the 450 riders in that vid were sizable boys all weighing more than 100kg

@sbartasek i've had the motor worked abit, the gearing does alot, but the 500's in general do have longer gears then the 450's
@bonham906 YEah it's unreal..Starting to get hard to get your hands on the old cr500s. HAd enough of the 450s
?
450's just dont have the top end speed..their fast out of the gate but the 500 is just an all-round insane bike..great video!
@noid919 Yeah definitely, let us know when you put it up i'd be keen to see it!
It's not how fast a bike is, it's how long can you keep the gas on before the corner. Two strokes make much more $en$e for racing, but I love the sound of the 4strokes.
@motoman9477 If u mean at the pro races they generally put loose top soil over and around start gate. Same thing they do here
@fatbass1000 its a 99 cr250 aluminium frame with a cr500 motor in it.
Wish I was in this race with my 2012 kx450f with the go fast coupler installed!
I did sell it a few days ago and am looking for a 2 stroke.

u can not learn it just from a ride :)
@bonham906 Oh yeah fair enough. Utah might be a little out of the way. We in Australia. Unless your willing to shell out some serious cash you won't get them at reasonable prices i reckon.
he even wheelies at 3:11
my opinion, depends on tuning and maintenance
2 stroke 4 stroke whatever as long as it has 2 wheels
@ridered972 Wrong, 4 stokes rev a few thousand rpm higher.
Well actually the 2013 450 sx-f made 56.96 HP at 9400 RPM, whilst the honda only made 51.55 at 8900 RPM...according to MXA. @wyattgrant57 We've been riding along that strip of grass for decades mate and it's not a thick as it looks. No dramas or worries.
Before i even clicked on this clip, i knew i wasn't going to be disappointed, i knew the two strokes would win!

If you really want to see a test of outright power then you need a place that can absorb all of the power a bike throws down. Sand is the only place I can hold my 500 open. Put the same paddle tire on both bikes and have at it. Ive been beat by 450s but its rare.
500 cc i love it, wonder what it would be like if it was separated into 2 cylinders, both 250cc, maybe even faster
500 beats 450 no mater what.
not on a track
@motoman9477 2007 and was stock then. I did a few things (exhaust and cams) but have since sold it.
two strokes over all have more power than any 4 stroke dirtbike. 2's might burn more gas and oil is because the piston moves so fast it needs extra lubrication. two stroke may have a slower take off and 4's have a faster smoother take off but i think any cr500r will beat a crf450r
Your wrong. Why does Kaven Benoit of team KTM (Canadian Nationals) ride a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke throughout the year????
Jared Arredondo A 2 stroke spins LESS rpm than a 4 stroke... Like a 450 F will spin more rpm than a 250 2T... But, 4 strokes are for girls
no why do i see alot of 4s in the supercross????? tenhnically you call all guys girls then
technically**
2s spin WAY more learn your fuckin facts
@EliteSoldier32 yeh its a 2000 model. steel frame
Beautiful sound!
Nice racing. It's such simple fun to open the throttle on a dirt bike in a straight line and race ya friends.
@groutaone yes, be awesome first bike because then you will always beat a 450 and never have to worry bout upgrading :)
@herse88 its a 03 yz stock too
@Vagpatrol
or you could have put a rb26 in a victa ride on and some spiked tyres.
@dakunna Yeah! there were a few others there as well
@tyrannas888 I got to admit that 450 is some tropper but 500 2t vs a 450f that almost asking to be ass whoped.
Love the sound of a bunch of 2strokes roosting a field!
@yrekabill yes it is 90% rider 10% bike i have riden both 2 but if they made something like a cr450r or a ktm 450 sx put some pro on it and vs it would kill the 450 4 stroke.
i hope they do make 2 stoke and 4 strokes in the same class
@Vagpatrol Only, dirtbike riding is way more than going in a straight line.
@bodiesdroppin- no Carmichael and Stewart have one slot of their championships on 2strokes. Sure some are 4t but most are 2
@tappmoney18 i honestly think the 450 with different gearing will not be any better, one of the 450's in it uses same gearing as my 500 and it dont stand a chance. as u can see in the clip
long live 2 stroke!!!!!!!!
@haloriver Yeah I have a 2005 CRF450R does your dad have the trail version the X or does he have the R?
the two stroke bikes are perfect and the four stroke bikes are perfect too:) I am just wondering about the new four strokes super powerful and they seem to need more attention than a brand new born baby, where sure the two strokes need attention too, I can work on a two stroke not a new 4 stroke i like and love my 1992 xr 600/old 4 stroke/ and keeping it till they close the lid on my coffin and im day dreaming about a cr 500 just so I can say i have one, shop rate @ honda is $110 an hour uggggg.
@honda064 but if there stock you will always have a advantage
you get about 150+ hours out of a 2 stroke if your not racing. and i got couple friends who all have 250 4 strokes and they all need rebuilds every year.
@redneck9507 they do...its called a kx 500
man ive ridden 500s and 450s the 500cc in tech specs a 2 stroke 500 is nearly 1,000 CC 4stroke even with the hot motors of the one ring piston CRF450R which I own.
That looks so fun man!! wish i had that many buddies with toys haha!
