Joe is my favorite young guitarist. Great character, talent and a guy who works his nails to the bone. Definitely the shining light of the talented new bloods (peers like Mayer, KWS, etc) IMHO. I love these sessions. Thanks for having JB on -- hope to see much, much more of the Sir.
Danny Gatton was a real gentleman, humble and burned the Telecaster like nobody's business. Bonamassa seems like a sincere guy, really did relate to Danny's teaching and took it to his own place. No need to compare the two, just appreciate. Gatton was famously with Robert Gordon. Listen to "The Humbler" sound board recording made at Berkeley Square in the early '80s. It's called "The Humbler" for a very good reason. That Gordon band with Lee Allen, Tony Garnier and Gatton was the best ever.
Out of all the blues guitar guys that have come after and out of the SRV era, I would should Joe us by far the most original and will probably become the most influential. Guys like Kenny Wayne Shepard are great, but they can sometimes seem too close to their influences, in terms of their sound and what they play. It's not uncommon for someone to say KWS sounds like a lesser SRV. But Joe, on the other hand, has much more of his own unique licks and stylings, that stem from a combination of so many influences. He has such a unique way of combining awesome stylings from rock, blues, country, jazz and even shred, that just gives modern blues a whole new sound. Of course, he has his influences from all the same legends that most other blues guys are influenced by, and you can definitely hear B.B, Clayton and SRV licks in his playing, but I don't think I can say that I listen to Joe and hear another other player but him, whereas I may listen to KWS and hear a bit too much SRV, which I would prefer to hear from the real SRV. I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense, I guess what I'm saying overall is that, to me, he's the most original and possibly most unique blues guitar player since SRV, and is gonna a have a huge impact on future blues and rock driven guitar playing.
.... and what gets me is, how can anyone vote for disliking this unless they were looking for Lady Gaa dee blaa and came accross this amazing music instead
It's surprising what you can glean from videos like this just by an attempt at imitation, and then weaving your own take into it, it really helps you progress in terms of style.
LOL. I've played guitar all my life, and I admit I can't carry that guys guitar case. That admission doesn't make me humble, because if I could, I would. This guy isn't in the same league with most of the guitar world. I'm not sure if he's humble or not, but he's not stretching the truth. I'm enjoying this session.
"Now i recently learned that you were mentored and trained at a early age by Danny Gatton" Joe: "I WAS I MET DANNY AT A BLUES FESTIVALL" Fuck, he sounds a tad like a 15 year old girl with that high voice!
Joe is a great player but like Danny sometimes lacking songs with memorable riffs. His tone and taste were at a peak with BCC.Just like Clapton ,he seems to shine when playing with high caliber musicians and not just being the captain of the solo ship.
Some-Times Joe gets a bit of stick, but I always say till you have walked in his shoe's SHUT THE FUCK UP, he is a very talented guitar player, He has proved he does not need endless amounts of distortion to hide sloppy playing, he can actually play, and very well
You like things predictable and very concrete, I understand. A little prosaic, but nothing wrong with that, I suppose. If you have a shin-bone to spare let me know, mkay.
I was so happy to learn that Joe is a big KISS fan as well!
It's so funny at the beginning when he was asked a question and then starts talking. Like clash of the voices
Thank you for sharing. This was great! You are both great musicians and generous men!

I love your way of thinking.

You make a good point ......and I love JB ....but lately all I hear from him is EJ 🤷♂️.....wish he would pull out the Gatton bag more often.

2:34 That is a awesome lick! I am totally taking that.
Danny was a banjo player and it influenced his guitar work .
Danny Gatton was in his own league.
Amazing talent, he can make the guitar his own

Get your hands on the CD...."All Fired Up"....by Johnny Hiland.....he takes Danny's style to the next level....simply Amazing !

@DanielSeriffGuitar As you can see it's a very old comment, I already picked it out by ear. But thanks though!

I guess to get that good on gtr you can’t focus on other stuff like song writing
can someone give me tab of what is joe playing from 2:34 to 2:41 ?
3:24 - the guy to Joe's right is thinking "I don't understand that weird chord progression, but damn it's cool." LOL
DAMMIT THAT GUITARCENTER RED BOX COVERS HIS HANDS
Country is only original music....
