That can help. When I’m visiting a country and nobody speaks English I just point at the food and hope it’s good. Usually it’s good and sometimes even amazing even though I have no idea what’s going on.
I love the dedication to comparing both cities' jianbing. I haven't been back to Asia since 2010 and you transported me there better than any other video I've watched trying to satiate a Chinese street food craving. My girlfriend is now trying to work up the courage to try make a jianbing at home lol THANK YOU!
I visited Beijing twice around a number of years ago. It’s one of my favorite cities. American style Chinese food is nothing like food in China. In Beijing I stayed in a major chain hotel. And the reception staff spoke English. I mentioned the names of some Chinese foods sold in America with photos. They looked at each other totally confused lol.
For American Chinese food, most Americans define it as fried rice, general Tso chicken, crab Rangoon, egg rolls, etc…From my personal experience if i try to introduce them to authentic Chinese food, they won’t like it even if it’s good because the American version is wired into their taste buds
Most of the standard Chinese American dishes served in Chinese restaurants in America that cater mainly to non-Chinese market were based on dishes found in the Southern parts of China. Especially from the Guangdong province. This is because the original Chinese immigrants to the US came from this province. Over the years, these Cantonese/Guangdong dishes became modified to suit American paletes and because of lack of original ingredients.
I've only had jianbing only once, not for me. That same for most food in Beijing. On the other hand, Shanghai cuisine and the surrounding provinces are amazing.
I love chinese food, especially the sandwich with the egg and chips looks really amazing. Some chilli or spicey sauce would for sure make really good! I've had Beijing duck in Beijing 10 years ago and I really found it amazingly delicious.
I love it too. The issue is that when visiting an Asian country you normally have to go to a tourist area where they have an English menu. The hidden local places where there’s no English menu and no English speaking can be a challenge
@@ramencurry6672 My brother was studying back than in China and we could go where ever we liked throughout China, was an amazing once in a lifetime experience probably..
@@DutchFlavour That’s awesome. I do feel that it’s possible to go anywhere too without speaking the language. I did it in Japan. If you get lost or confused you basically stumble through and get by
@@ramencurry6672 Jep in the south of spain most people talk Spanish to, lived there for 3 months and finally managed to speak Spanish myself. And than I decided to go to Thailand for 2 months which is where I am at now it's amazing here!
Dude, I just went to a burger joint and had a patty melt, onion rings and a drink all in paper containers for $16 in the DC area. Quanjude is a great deal LOL.
You have to try 锅包肉 肉夹馍 油泼面 新疆烤肉串 新疆烤包子 大盘鸡 桂林米粉 柳州螺蛳粉 虾饺 恭城油茶 That should keep you busy. If you're heading south to Guangxi province let me know, we can go to 恭城 and have real 油茶
Both spots have amazing skills on those round griddles, and you can certainly see the difference in each batter. I need to explore more Chinese street food, where I am in Queens is mostly Korean. Either way, they both look excellent... And, I'd be excited just for the bullet train ride!
UA I'm out in Taipei any chances of you rolling through after your trip in China? Should check out some of the local snacks and of course the beef noodle soup!
You can do it even if you have no idea what’s going on. I only know English but Just make hand gestures or whatever. I’ve done this in Brazil, Japan and Haiti. You may not get exactly what you want but if it’s a good place the food will be delicious
oh damn man, I had this the first time I went to China - I was way more of a white devil back then and I still thought it was one of the tastiest thing I've ever had - now I really really want one and need to find one in NY STAT!
I noticed the second didn't include a protein except the extra egg. I like the Chinese donut more than the fried wonton skin. Still looked good though.
I just discovered this for the first time at a market in Sydney just a week after watching this video. Was delicious, although the price was $15 AUD for one with everything in it 😂
Jianbing looks interesting concept. Bit dry to me I think, I would prefer to have one with like 1/4 of the ammount of crisps, and some veggies and duck meat instead.
Sorry about that first French crepe look like a cheap hot dog cut in half it's just all French crepes and carbs no meat or vegetables ! Thanks for posting though😢
I like your videos and reviews but you REALLY REALLY need to stop using these youtube songs, they are just terrible. I understand they are free but there must be something better than the song you usually use...

Hard to find a good one in the US

The Kenji Lopez using a tortilla for jianbing hack is god tier.

Yo tao or however you spell it, is more like fried dough/bread than a donut. It’s not sweet nor is any sweet things put on it
Yeah it's sometimes called a Chinese Cruller, never heard it called a donut lol
I meant donut more so in its texture and that it's fried fluffy dough. Not so much its sweetness
Dumplings, dumplings, and dumplings.
Who is the lady’s face on the bag?

It's his Initial, dumba**
We can tell UA dont like that ready meal cuz he didnt squint neither did he say "ohhhh"
