It's really disappointing that there are just 4 chelisarets, as the were meant to be this game's reaper. And if you didn't know, there were 25 reapers in Subnautica
@@aaronolson6736 are they leviathans though?? the pda entry says there smaller leviathans but they show up in the carnivore's tab of fauna, not leviathan
I think the reason there’s less is that they do more damage (I think) or at least a lot of damage, and the developers wanted the game to be a bit easy so they lowered the amount to 4
Chels are by far my favorite Subnautica creature, They are cute (I ended up naming the one in the purple vents Billy Bob) but can be pretty scary once they start waving their jaws around and making clicking sounds. Due to their roar being extremely similar to that of the cryptosuckus, you can sometimes think you are safe when you actually aren't, unlike the reaper.
@@iAletho i enjoy the chelicerate because all other leviathans you encounter in the first game, at least the two most prominent ones are serpentine, by that point it just gets extremely boring and the cheli actually looks like a prehistoric fish on earth,
@@louisbrice1466 I think the reason that the chelicerate remains scary long-term is because you can't easily kill one due to the absence of the stasis rifle.
@@louisbrice1466 To me the Reaper looks very fish-like, with its fins and flukes, while the Ghost is more like a snake or worm. The Sea Dragon of course looks like a dragon, grafted onto a squid. But the Chelicerates don't frighten me because they appear to be just animals, without much personality. Whereas the aggressive Leviathans in Subnautica come across as monsters.
@@AssortedGarbage23 You do get the prawn VERY early in below zero soooooooooooooooooo Along with the fact that there's a total of like 3 or 4 chelies does make em seem very unthreatening when you finally kill even a single one since well that's probably the only one within the area. Compared to any of the Leviathan locations in OG subnautica.
To me the void Chelisarets kinda look ill, so maybe they’re older than the red ones and the reason they do less damage is cause they’ve been muscled out of territory with good amounts of prey by the healthier ones?
This makes such sense, the void ones are just Elderly who were rudely chased out of their birth place and had to settle for living on the less fortunate side.
I find the way the Chelicarets kill you scarier Than how the Reaper does. Considering you get your Back pulled through those lines of razor Sharp teeth while pierced and fixated With the mandibles Looks way More horrifying and painful to me.
Hey, just recently found your channel and I love the things you do! I always love these documentary kind of things and with it being from one of my favorite survival games you certainly delivered! I'll be looking forward for the next one!
I always loved the chelly. I always thought the reaper, while scarier, looks more like a monster than an animal. While the chelly looks more like an animal than a monster. Like the reapers weird humanish chin bothers me LOL
I had a mod idea for Below Zero, which I think would fix two of its problems in one. The lack of a decent endgame submarine, and the lack of a reaper tier threat. I’ll say nothing more because I don’t want the idea stolen.
Honestly after spending so much time with reapers the chelicerate scares me more than a reaper, especially the sound they make when they roar. + the lack of defences you have in below zero adds to this, no stasis rifle and the prawn is less tanky
If I continue Binge watching your content and you continue to create more, i might know everything about Below Zero despite never having played it... LoL
In fact, i started playing Subnautica AT ALL cuz i found your wonderful channel. I was too scared to even start it and now, i have all 3 vehicles 🎉 ... But i'm still too scared to venture outside the Safe Shallows 😅. Sure, i was at the Aurora and the 2 Islands but not much more cuz of the leviathans...
When I first learned of the chelicerate's presence in the DLC, I was instantly in love. It's such a beautifully terrifying design, especially the void chelicerate
One thing I love about the Chelicerate is how it’s roar is so similar to the Crypto-guys that it’s very effective at letting your guard down because you just think it’s one of those annoying guys
i got back into Subnautica and i was a noob again then i found your channel on july i think 3rd i got a discount for below zero and i just found u like three weeks ago im subbed i like your videos and your really helping me out thanks bro
I think they are Underrated man, they give reaper vibes with the claws, and they are kinda scary, and the reason there isn't much of them is probably because the map is smaller
Im pretty sure the main reason why there is a lack of chelicerates is because their size compared to the original reaper, their much tougher, and much larger.
Honestly, I hope that Chelicerates and Reapers make a reappearance in Subnautica 3, both are brilliantly designed creatures. But to avoid Chellies being a disappointment like in Below-Zero maybe the devs can give them louder, threatening distant roars or screeches like Subnautica 1's leviathans, also making their hunting grounds murky would also be a good way to build the fear factor.
Just a note; I do not think the orange parts are barnacles, but instead, the loss of their original colour from being out in darker and colder waters instead of thermal vents and age of course, the white/greyish colour is their aged colour, while red is their nascent colour. The Red Chelicerates imo are young ones, and the ones in the void are their older counter-parts, similar to how you find mostly non-adult ghost leviathans in the map areas but then in the void, they are much bigger and "Adult". The fins themselves glowing may also be the result of transitioning into darker and colder waters as a means to communicate with their kind, but also simply a maturing aspect of the creature. The size imo is also a factor.
My theory for the coud chelicerates are that they suffer from a mutation similar to gigantism found in humans, i.e. the hormone that normally is released to stop growth failed to activate and as a result they continued to grow. Do to their increased size and confined space of sector zero they moved to the void to stop swimming into things. Edit: this would also explain their weaker attacks, as the uncontrolled growth makes the muscle strained and weak.
"Four chelicerates can be found within Sector Zero as a whole." And that number falls down to zero at first opportunity, whenever I replay this game. I don't need any loud, toothy nightmare beasts sneaking up and eating me when I'm just trying to find my sister and build my alien buddy a new robot body, especially when they don't even have the decency God gave Ghosts to glow.
Was definitely a missed opportunity to only have 2 in the game that you’re likely to encounter, really good concept and design, just arent executed too well
What makes no sense to me is how the Shadow Leviathan is in the Crystal Caves, *And not The Void* mean it would've been the perfect Leviathan to be there and how the Void Chelicerate isn't the normal version and the red younger ones weren't in the Crystal Caves To me it should've been similar to Ghost Leviathans how they hatch in the Lost River and stay there until they grow and leave. Plus imagine bumping into the Shadow Leviathan after entering the Dead Zone, so much missed opportunity
I remember seeing this thing in some random “All Ways To Die In Below Zero” and I was like, oh, that’s a cool creature. I didn’t even think it was a leviathan because it was just so uninteresting and not at all intimidating. Just a shrimp monster lol.
I remember my first encounter with these things... well their were two, but the first one was NOT a glitch (Lol) I was in the Tree spires, in my prawn, I found something I wanted to scan, and one of the Chelicerate's had not seen me, so, I got out to scan, as soon as I got out of my prawn, it charged at me, I maneged to get back in my prawn, which it then grabbed, scared the hell out of me
Question: if you kill all 3 void ones without leaving the void, would you be safe to roam around it? Or does the game just spawn another one every 30 seconds until there are 3?
