    Excellent review. Just one quibble about something I notice in a lot of these comparisons. The dispersion difference between iBlade and G is partly a function of distance. The longer a club flies, the more pronounced the imperfections of strike (and variables like wind) will be. So given the small differences here, I think you could argue that the iBlade and G were actually equally accurate. If the G had only flown as far as the iBlade, its dispersion circle would have been correspondingly smaller, or if the iBlade had flown as far as the G, its dispersion circle would have grown larger.

    Interesting review. Start of last season I went for a fitting looking for more forgiving clubs than my previous ones (Miura 501). I was convinced I needed i25 or even g30 but ended up getting best results with the s55. A bit like your comparison here between the iBlade and the I iron. I think it partly comes down to looks and feel/sound. Other clubs were a lot longer than the s55 but they give me consistency, know your distances and it doesn't matter what the number is on the bottom!

    One of your best vids! I went from the G25 irons to the
    G Max. In retro, I would have moved into the G irons I think. Never imagined they would bring out another line of irons so quickly! By the time I get the golf budget built back up, the G's might be available as an affordable used set. Pete, I am a bit confused when you (and Rick) talk about better players not being interested in the type of added distance that stronger lofted, longer shafted clubs can provide. For me, I would feel much more comfortable and confident with an 8 iron than a 7, or a 7 iron than a 6 etc. One trip to the range and one round seems like all the adjustment time I would need.

  • @Slash1035
    @Slash1035 8 років тому +2

    Great video! I do have a question because it seems the I iron has a worse dispersion than the G as well as being shorter. I get that the I blade is great for predictable yardages, trajectory, and left/right flight, but I also read the amount of tungsten makes its moi the same as the I iron... So,.. what does the I iron have to hang its hat on besides aesthetics? Given the forgiveness is the same as the I blade while providing better workability and the G is a tighter grouping and longer for the casual player who doesn't mind a straight ball with a high trajectory. Sorry for being wordy

    I'm a 14 handicap and I have the G irons and find them a great iron and they have helped me get my handicap down but have to say I tried the iblade and struck that lovely I loved the look and I even managed to shape a draw which I struggle with on the G irons so I'm taking a few lessons to get my swing and consistency better and then next year I'm going to look to change to the iblades, I already use the ping glide wedges so it won't be a shock to me to see that shape club behind the ball.

    I got the new g irons a few weeks ago. Love em, but getting used to the distance is taking some time. Played the i3+ for years and had a tear in my eye when I put them up. This is a great review, and just makes me feel better that I made the right choice. Great job Pete.

    I will accept all the help I can get. So went for the G range of irons, playing of hcp 4. I still think it's quite easy to shape the ball still, but those of center hits I still hit, is just sooo much better with the G range.Regarding the distance, I really don't care how far my 7 iron goes, as long as I know the exact distance!Great video Pete, and good to see you hitting balls again! Cheers from Denmark.

    Great video Pete, the blades look good, hate the look of the G irons, I play with the g30 irons which l love, which cost more money than the G irons 3 months ago. Most consistent distance I have ever had. I wish Ping would stay true to themselves, instead of trying to tart up their new irons. Glad to see you back playing, thanks again.

    Great review I been playing an old set of Pings just bought the IBlades & G30 irons( Huge Discount ) I went out to the driving to see how each set played and I'm getting the same results as yourself. However I'm not sure if the fitter( big box golf store)got it right on my IBlades 7 iron I'm going back to the club today to get an Expert fitter to refit me. I'm not a pro but the IBlades look great and I'm hitting straight except for that 7 iron but in still having fun

    Peter as someone who has always hit forged how do the I Blades feel? I hit one very briefly on a simulator and it felt okay but the balls were rubbish. Cast clubs have come a long way but a flushed forged club shot compared to a flushed cast shot with a quality ball still hasn't quite compared for me yet. The I Blade I have heard is very close. I noticed that your spin rates were kind of wacky with the I Blade as well. The G actually seemed to have the best spin rates. Enjoy your VLOGs always looking forward to the testing. Cheers.

    I play ping i25s and love them, forgiving and very easy to work. However the iblades are stunning. I wonder if a combo set of I iron from 4-6 and iblades 7-w would work as not too sure how well I would constantly strike the higher end of the iblades. This may mess up the gapping between clubs due to loft differences but I suppose they could always be altered slightly. I just reckon the iblades would look sexy in the bag. 11 hcp ping loyal

    Good comparison Pete. I have a friend he is a very good player with a +4 handicap and sponsored by ping. But the surprising thing is he is using the G irons which to me and probably a lot of people considering I have never seen him miss hit anything and he doesn't need any more distance but he just doesn't like blades. Personally I love blades but he just doesn't get what you are gaining from a bladed iron especially the tech that goes into cavity backs to make them feel nearly as good as a blade.

      @kiantaylor4573 8 років тому

      +Cornwall1888 he hits the ball very high with so much spin it's like the ball goes straight up in the air towards its apex so that helps with shaping the ball. I was at the range with him the other day and he had no trouble shaping the ball both ways on the the practice flags he even hit one about 190 yards away with his 5 iron one with a fade and one just a dead straight shot and the sound he makes with his clubs is just amazing

  • @wolfman6252
    @wolfman6252 7 років тому

    Very interesting the variations in lofts. Ping and I'm sure the other manufacturers use this to enable distance vs. feel. So much has to do with the consistency of the swing. If you are able to consistently put the clubhead on the ball first with an iron you will have success with any iron. It is then that the feel and workability of the club comes into consideration. Thanks for documenting the differing clubs side by side and the differing lofts as it clears up a lot about each technology.

    Great and very interesting video! Bladed club are said to be more workability and more accuracy clubs. However you need maybe 6 i blade iron to get the same distance like 7 G iron. Shorter club and more control maybe? Can´t you hit draw and fades with G iron? Offcource you can play which club you like but what is real difference in workability and accuracy with same distance? You are swinging like robot, so you can test this very easy ;-)
