  • Showing everyone the methods I use when cleaning old dirty speakers. Specifically, we deal with cleaning of the cones. Paper, Metal, Kevlar, Cloth, Wood or Composite is handled. We do this when trying to save an old pair of speakers from the junk yard.
*Performing the repairs may damage your speakers. Please perform at your own risk.*
    *Consult Manufacturers Recommendations, First.*
Please perform these repairs minimally and only when you need to restore the speakers.
For Paper Cones, minimum water is best. But if the cone is untreated, it will probably start falling apart with age and will need to be re-coned. We do not suggest cleaning untreated paper cones.
For Metal Cones, please be careful. These speakers are easy to bend up.

Try dusting with a large round makeup brush. Vac lightly with soft bristle attachment.

Thank you very much for the cleaning presentation. Did you have a chance to evaluate your Kef 303s for a possible cleaning? I know they have paper cones, so the extra caution is warranted.

Yes the 303 was cleaned. But they’re not untreated paper. They have a coating too. It gets a bit sticky with time. The 303s where full of dirty. They look and sound great now. Just wipe them down with a damp cloth, and let dry. Don't get wet.
