How to Clean Home Speakers DIY

Some tips and tricks, how to clean any home speakers easy and how to achieve, them looking better again. With time a lot of dust accumulates on loudspeakers, it doesn't affect the sound but it does degrade the appearance of the speaker and as we well know, in the audiophile world placebo has a great power on the sound quality. Over the years I have bought more than 100 different second hand audio systems and they have all needed cleaning. To clean the speakers you need a microfibre cloth soaked in warm water, but it should not be too wet, just slightly damp.

I clean my speakers the the same way with slight differences. Outer surface cleaning is material specific, one cannot use damp cloth on veneered exteriors and paper cone/paper derivatives speakers. I use a soft shaving brush to clean the cones, rubber surrounds needs occasional cleaning with a slight damp cloth. Outer surface can be clean & polished like you said, no problem for laminated & painted exteriors. The clear leather shoe polish is new idea for me. Thanks for your informative video.

I am not very sure but car dashboard polish can also be used on rubber, in very little quantity with help of microfiber cloth or sponge. It makes the rubber shine and can also be applied on other Black/dark colour plastic material that looses it's shine and texture with age.

I recently picked up some 30 year old NHT speakers with glossy black piano finish that showed up every fingerprint. I polished them with a polyglaze car polish and they look brand new now and no longer pick up finger prints.

I almost ruined an old speaker with a cardboard (paper) white cone. Never ever let water near the cone, even a slightly wet microfiber cloth can damage the cone.
