Should you buy the iPad Mini 6? Is it worth upgrading to the iPad Mini 6? The iPad Mini 6 might be the MOST exciting iPad of the year, because it has been more than two and a half years since the iPad Mini 5. But does it actually live up to the hype?
It’s a completely new iPad Mini, with a new design, much more powerful chip, a new display, and upgraded camera and audio systems. So let’s talk about what I liked, what I didn’t like, and see if the new iPad Mini is a good choice for you.
I’ll get to this later in the video, but there was ONE PARTICULAR AREA where I COMPLETELY underestimated this device.

What's up everyone?! I hope this review of the iPad Mini 6 was helpful. Did I cover what you wanted to know? What else did you want to see or learn about?
Would love to know what you think. Is this a strobe that you would use and why or why not. If you’re currently using something else, please share your experience with me. I am grateful in advance 🙏
Thank you Thank so much for answering my question.
Very helpful, thanks!!! What's the name and/or model of that stand you are using for the iPad mini - the aluminum one?
BTW, you also convinced me to go with the storage upgrade as well. these things do last, as long as you just don't drop them!
Thanks for the great review. Hope you can help me out with my situation. Here are my choices: Option 1: Get an iPad Mini 6, retain my iPhone 11 or Option 2: Get an iPhone 13 mini, sell my iPhone 11 and get an iPad 9th gen. Do you think the iPhone 13 mini’s cinematic mode is a game changer to upgrade vs. retaining my iPhone 11 for photo /video purposes only? For the other usage cases (browsing, media consumption, email) will be using an iPad. Appreciate your inputs. Thanks
How much true storage out of the box do you get when you buy 64gb version of the mini 6 because I know in every device they seem to take up at least 10 or 15gb of your storage just for the os of your device.
I got rid of my pro for the mini 6. Loved the pro, but with both M1 MacBook and imac, the iPad Pro was overkill. I love the mini!
I really appreciate you sharing your process - glad you're enjoying the Mini
Dang man. You are all decked out! I’m seeing my 2018 pro as a big device as well. A smaller one would be nice
@@brandonlong2064 lol yeah man it’s a nice set up. I’ve been very fortunate. But with that pro I had to down size. Do you have the 12.9?
@@TechGearTalk thanks for reaffirming my purchase lol
@@nightSean ya I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 13. iPad Pro 2018 12.9. But tbh, it’s a bit too big to enjoy in bed lol. So I can see myself selling it for something smaller
I would like to give you a useful suggestion:
I believe that many people interested in cheaper iPad (non Pros) reviews are more likely students. As a student, I would appreciate if you dedicate a minute or two talking about the Apple Pencil implementation, how many words you can write in one line without moving (this could give an impressive comparison between the mini and the Air in terms of dimensions) and in general how comfortable would be a long session writing experience.
The complete review is useful obviously, but your reviews lacks the student point of view!
I love this comment im actually torn on what to take mini 6 or air 4

I’ve got mine today and it’s a companion to my 12.9 pro from 2018. I don’t own a TV, so I keep the bigger one for watching most video stuff. The mini is awesome for reading like anything - and typing. I never commented on UA-cam on any bigger IPad, but being able to hold it while typing with both items is just fantastic.
I have the same iPad Pro, mini 6, and my gf calls me panda-bon 🤣
@@matt_pang it’s the perfect combo especially because I don’t use my iPhone for much more than Spotify and Messages….so it was more worth for me to invest in this than in a new phone (mine is 3 years old already, haha)
I am still on my 1st generation iPad Air and while slow, it still works for everything. however it does need to be replaced.
I’ve just replaced my first gen iPad Air with a mini today! It’s such an upgrade since I’ve not updated my old iPad’s software in years!
What a lot of reviews don't mention is the battery life. It isn't great. They should've added a bigger battery
As with any device, it's variable and depends on what you do. I always want more battery life :)
I'm enjoying it so far. Only complain and that might be for any iPads, some apps don't seem very optimised for it. The News app has a large padding when reading the news. Twitter on portrait looks like a blown up app. However, this size and design is amazing
if this had the 90 fps feature , it would have been a perfect iPad for gaming
Not coming in my country yet.. i don't know when.. hmmmm
Great review, I just ordered mine! May I ask what app you were using at 9:16? It looked like movies library :)
Thank you! I was browsing through Netflix. Thank you for being part of the channel!
I currently use a Galaxy phone. I prefer big phones, but I didn't have any since my 7.2" Huawei device. I am thinking of buying the iPad mini 6 5G to be my both phone & tablet. What's your opinion of this plan? Thank you in advance.
What is really a bummer is that it came out too late for me to buy because I have already bought the iPad Pro 11 inch. Now I’m stuck with a tablet that I can’t even carry around with me because of my Parkinson’s. It’s crap it’s just crap
plz camera recording review
thanks for putting subtitles in portuguese. I'm from Brazil
Glad I could help! Thank you for being part of the channel!
Anyway you could compare the 2018 ipad pro with the new 9th gen iPad please? I'm trying to make that decision right now 😬😅
I really would like to, but more expensive than the air and just 150€ less than the pro. I’m struggling. All Amazon prices and 256 and LTE
While gaming PUBG, always show all graphics setting including fps from smooth to hdr.
I normally play on Smooth and Extreme
A few of us, like me, can't afford one 😭😭😭
I like it but it feels too small even compared to the Mini 5. I use my iPad in landscape mode and it feels like an oversized phone rather than a smaller iPad. It’s bigger than the previous mini the way the iPhone X had a bigger screen than the 8 plus. Only on paper but not by experience.
How about playing MOBILE LEGEND in iPad Mini 2021?
I can’t wrap my head around why a multimedia device like an i-Pad wouldn’t come with a headphone jack!?😲🧐 I mean isn’t one of the main points of having one to watch movies/videos or listening to music while your reading/drawing/working etc…
Would this ipad be good for digital art. Like using procreate?
Just got my mini I’m loving it
Like your work
Thank you so much 😀

Definitely, it's so portable.
Hows the jelly scroll?
Ipad pencil should be smaller. Sise proportional to iPadd mini6.
It doesn’t have smaller bezel per see lol.
The side bezels are larger. It’s a give and take.
Finally first bro
Good work!!!
My friend and teacher says tablets are pointless. What are the benefits of a Tablet if you already have a phone and computer?
technically the only advantage is being able to write on the display. But in real life, I use it to watch content, surf the web, read, etc. I can do all of those things on a phone or PC so it's not a requirement.
Everyone has a different set of needs and opinions, otherwise we wouldn't need options because everyone would buy the same things! Your friend and teacher are entitled to their opinions- just make sure that you form your own opinions based off of what YOU like, too!
@@Hoclem yeah I can respect their opinions because I've already made up my mind to me a tablet is useful for the things mentioned above like drawing gaming etc and they can be great work tools so thanks.
Should buy today.
Me: i would... if there's still available right now.
Sold out?
@@TechGearTalk yes i tried getting one at an apple store in the mall. Ipad mini are sold out. And if i order online on apple website. It will be delivered by the end of October.
Can you do a video about editing heavy footage in iPad mini 6? This will be my decisions to buy this iPad. Thank You
No you shouldnt it has major wifi issues when using 5Ghz wifi that apple has yet to address. Wait and see and dont buy it right now.
So can you please repeat less information in the videos? Because there is a LOT of overlap in the videos you are making.
I completely understand - most viewers only watch one video, so I have to make sure I cover the information they need to make a decision. It's always hard for me to choose what to repeat.
Worth upgrading from mini 5?
Call of Duty Mobile Play it while testing Device
Wait so even if you have the cellular version you can use it as a phone??? You still have to route your calls?
Still have to route your calls.
@@TechGearTalk aw man I wanted this as a 2nd phone 👎
I would rather just pay a little more for the air.
If it's the better fit, the Air 4 is a fantastic option
The only thing keeping me from buying it is the "jelly scroll" problem. Did you or anyone else here face it?
The Mini 6 is the best upgrade since... Ever.
Also, this is one of the preferred choice for streamers on Twitch or FB GG here in the Philippines because of giving a bigger canvass on the game but it's more portable to use.
Ipad mini 6 and air 4 are the same price atm where I am, which would you recommend for media consumption, a little bit of note taking, gaming and reading? Which would be more future proof? Really torn between the two!
Both are future proof, Mini 6 is newer. For me, it comes down to form factor and display size preference. See this: ua-cam.com/video/GFez_IhmYzU/v-deo.html
Air 4 is overall better
@@shivanshu2152 how so?
@@shivanshu2152 no, it only has smart connector and is bigger. The mini has more powerful chip, camera with flash. At this point, the air is a weaker but bigger ipad mini 6.
Get the air 4, trust me…its still portable and you have options of using a keyboard or not. Screen size is better for long time media consumption but these are just my 2 cents. Maybe try both out in stores or home if you can.
Im jealous of the mini seriously. No competition at that size, no fire hd 8 can't compete with this. I'm not big fan Samsung Tab E or A tablet. Samsung needs to bring back 8" size for Tab S8
Fire HD plus is like a hundred bucks lmao its not trying to compete with anything except make affordable tablets for below average consumers
If you're video editing on this, I'd rather spend the $150 on an external SSD, cheaper per GB and instantly transferable to another iPad or Mac. Having bought a 1TB iPad Pro in 2018, I barely use 100GB. I'd upgrade to a 64GB mini 6 no problem.
I bought an iPad Mini 5 last year. It’s a great device. I have no desire to upgrade. Maybe in 5 years…
I have never purchased an iPad till now. Personally prefer something portable and purple so it’s finally time. Your tagline was playing in my head since it was available, buy it nice or buy it twice 😭 Awaiting my purple iPad mini to ship to me!
Mine went back. 60Hz and Jelly Screen killed it for me 😅
Don’t buy it, it’s too small! It’s overpriced old screen with HUGE borders! I’m using 10.5 iPad and sometimes think it just a bit too small.
Y, go get the 11 inch m1 pro from amazon at a deal. WAY more value for the cash. The mini just feels outdated already when ur used to 120hz.
@@heavy_hate5346 that's why it is called ipad "mini" it won't be called mini if it isn't small. Maybe you are just using it inside your house or something but for people like me who travels frequently then ipad mini is better as it doesn't take much space in my backpack and is so much easier to use on the go.
@@Jay-cm9tr phone screens are so big our days, that you no longer need one of these. Evenn tho new technologies with folding devices would crash this piece of history.
What about the screen distortion when you scroll down on web pages? Is that an issue that needs to be brought up? hmm
No review of the mini talks about this issue
It actually made me decide to return mine, the jelly scrolling made me dizzy.
@@fuhrmanns that’s the problem! Every iPad Mini is affected and no reviews mention it.
Great video! The problem with this Mini tablet is the high price. $499 for 64GB and $800+ for 256 with 5G. Might as well get the smaller iPad Pro model for a bit more or on sale.
But then it would be too big.
And the currency diffrences is killing me💀 800$ at the usa, here the ipad mini 6 is 1000$
Agreed. I got the ipad 9th gen
iPad mini 6 will get $100 price cut wait for Black Friday folks
@@maheshbh1 the Mini won’t even be reliably stocked by Black Friday much less be on sale. Apples new orders are already shipping into Nov.
I've been hesitant to get a new iPad, idk which one to choose yet between Mini, 9th, and Air 4 (the one I have is very old and many apps don't work on it anymore).
However, since I work as a translator, I do have to take into account text editing, multi-tasking with more than 1 window, and the possibility of attaching a keyboard. Which sadly makes me cross-off the Mini.
I wish I could just get the 9th gen, because it's cheaper. But the Air keeps taunting me with its laminated display, everyone talks about how distant the apple pencil is from the actual drawing on the 9th gen. While I'm not an artist, I would love to dabble with Procreate on my spare time (let's pretend I will have free time lol)
@Eric, sounds like the Air will be a good fit for you. It’s only a bit more expensive than the iPad Mini, has a Goldilocks screen size for multi-tasking and can use the excellent, albeit pricey, magic keyboard which is a must have accessory imho. The 9th gen iPad while capable, cannot match the Air’s laminated, P3 wide color gamut screen or it’s processing power. If you plan on making heavy use of pro apps or storing multiple movies or games on there, spring for the 256GB version.
I have 1 question, i have 3 choices, (m1 ipad 128gb, ipad air 256gb, and ipad mini 6 256gb) can you help me decide what ipad should i get because i really don’t know which one to choose, cause i will use the ipad you choose for the rest of senior highschool
A great review. Your thumbnails are super fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for the kind words about the thumbnails
What about the jelly scroll problem??? Also, there are reports of 5GHz WiFi disconnects requiring a channel change (not possible with some newer routers from xfinity, etc.)
The jelly scroll was horrible on mine. I got it today and I'm returning it tomorrow.
I am looking forward to buy this but i heard abt the rumors of the jelly scrolling issue on this new mini, is that true…
yes, its true. Not sure how Apple with fix that
Jelly is good for the soul bro
I was contemplating between the Wi-Fi 64gb and 256gb… ended up with the 64gb and an apple pencil and an iCloud subscription… that’s a great sub 600 bundle for students like myself who don’t want to spend almost 700 for a 256 version
if you plan on getting storage for your drawingd, just back them up on a usb/pc, 256gb isnt worth imo
Thanks for this vid! I'm really considering getting the iPad mini 6 as my first iPad.
Glad I could help, Neil!
I’m in the same boat and decided to buy one. No regrets so far. You can also use external monitor and use a Bluetooth keyboard/ mouse to make a nice setup if you are doing a zoom session while writing some emails and so.
Do it!!!
@@TechGearTalk I got the iPad air 4 as my first iPad ever. Your videos really helped out a lot. I appreciate the videos a lot. Keep up the great work.
If you are primarily going to use this in portrait mode. I would hold off in buying this. I just started a return for my ipad mini 6 256GB. The jelly scrolling effect in portrait makes using this device a very unpleasant experience while scrolling through content.
I'm really interested in the mini but have heard bad things about the jelly scroll. I'll have to go test it on display before I make the decision :)
Honestly I don‘t get the fuss about it. I read about it before I got my Mini. After one whole day of use I can‘t say that I noticed anythinge despite knowing about. Usually I‘m kinda sensitive on such things but this ain‘t a problem for me. Best test it yourself
Yeah I was on the fence, but unfortunately that did kill the interest for me. It’s one of those things that doesn’t necessarily ruin the experience, but it’s a downgrade on the previous Mini
@@jackdaniels8030 yeah that's what I'm going to do. I can barely see anything in the videos people are posting. My local best buy still hasn't put out the new line-up on display so once they do that I'm testing it out for myself!
@Mikayla Poff yeah good idea because honestly the new Mini is hands down the best buy I have done in recent years. This device is so damn awesome
If you use it in portrait orientation you might notice it. But if you're like me and only use landscape orientation then you wont notice anything.
i used to have a very shitty ipad mini that ALWAYS crashed when i tried to play certain roblox games like meepcity or roblox high school
Imagine if it has 120hz as well, I wouldn’t mind paying an extra $100
I agree. But that means that 120hz is going to shred battery life 🔋 since the battery is not big enough
@@Mnerd7368 I noticed this too. I used to own an iPad 7th gen which has the newer A12 chip, smaller less bright screen, and 60hz. I sold it and bought an iPad Pro 10.5 from 2017. It has the less battery efficient a10X a larger brighter screen, and 120hz display. Even though it’s bigger and has a larger battery I think it definitely feels like the battery drain is faster than my gen 7 iPad. That trade off is worth it though. My 10.5 pro is so much better even though it’s older.
@@sonymicronin but the 2017 10.5 iPad Pro has a defect where there’ll be an annoying bright spot in the screen after months of use. It was never resolved by Apple. Gone through 2 replacements after using each for over 6 months. Now the current one has had the issue for well over a year.
@@TheHitsukia Yeah. I did some research and found out about the defect but that was only after I had already purchased the device unfortunately lol. Funnily enough the IPad Pro 2017 10.5 I bought was actually used and is a second hand device. I bought it off of Facebook marketplace place. Despite this Device being at least close to a year old(nearly 11 months the previous user had it for) it was in pristine condition. No scratches or dents whatsoever on the front or back of the device(a screen protector was always used with a case). So far I’ve had it for just a little over a week(about 8 or 9 days since I bought it) but I have’s noticed any bright spot or anything off about the display despite this devices allegedly being already a year old basically. Now it seems like the device could have been barely used by the previous owner(as I stated it looks in mint condition and even had 96% battery health) so the bright spots could 100% show up with time but as of now nothing.
It sucks that you had to go through 2 replacements, quality control and testing should have prevented this from even being a problem in the first place. I want to ask when you did finally get the bright spots how noticeable were they? Did they drastically affect your enjoyment of the device or your ability to use it? I appreciate if you could answer honestly even if the truth would not be something I would want to hear lol. I might reevaluate my decision and might think about reselling while the resale value is still decent. Then save up for a 2018 iPad Pro.
@@sonymicronin it was very noticeable lol. Especially indoors. That issue is unavoidable, you will see the spot appear at some point in time. Not only that, my display isn’t at peak brightness 100% of the time. It dims itself 80% of the time. I had this same issue with the ones I replaced -.- . And this is the last iPad Pro that comes with a headphone Jack. Apple really messed up.

Hey pal
I'm a college student and I'm lil bit in confusion which Device i should choose for my college work, online classes and for my gaming ipad pro or ipad mini 6.???
11” Pro - I had the 1st gen and got the 12.9” M1 and it’s too big to carry around. I bought the mini last week. It’s nice and portable, but I wouldn’t want it to be my only device. I’d say get the smaller pro or even the Air.
Overall loving the new mini. It's great for watching content and overall looks great no matter what we are doing
Can u watch a 1080p video on this mini?
The mini is hype tech and it's absolutely useless unless you have a very specific need for it. It will end up being a very expensive paperweight for most people. It's too small for productivity, typing is strange, and just big enough to be awkward to carry around with you. Most of what it can do can be done on your phone with greater ease. So unless you have a specific need it's not worth the money.
Use Dualshock 4 Controller To Play Call of Duty Mobile on iPad or Mobile

Hey, between the air 4 and pro m1, which would you recommend for a student?
iPad Air 4, have all the function of iPad pro except for 120hz and centre stage. from my perspective processing power is doesn't affect a lot a as a student. Our concern is the display that use the same laminated screen. the price is more cheaper that you may use the money to buy an apple pencil, a keyboard or a monitor that can give a better view .
@@nikfirdaus7560 well you don't have to buy the apple pencil, they are cheap alternatives that charges by magnet also they're cheap keyboards too which works just as well. Both the ipad air 4 and pro m1 will last for a longtime. It's all up to preference but personally I have large hands so I'd choose the M1 but the air 4 is great too.
I do not care Face ID, I want Touch ID. I feel like this will replace my iPhone 7 Plus. 120hz is going to shred battery life of this iPad mini 6
you missed a very big point about center stage and how it can adapt to the amount of people in the shot. that's one of it's best-selling features, especially for facetime
Played with one at Best Buy today. The jelly effect was obvious and bothersome as was the scaling on the home screen. Don't understand why You Tube reviews don't mention these flaws.
They don’t want to fuck it up with apple lmao like if they will ever get sponsored by them .apple don’t sponsor no one
Can this issue with jelly rolling be fixed with a software update?

The iPad mini 6 is my first apple device. I built my own PC, and my phone is an ROG phone 3. I have not noticed this jelly scroll no matter how much I try to reproduce. I have seen it in videos, however. I thought it’d be glaringly obvious because I’m used to seeing 144FPS instead of 60.

Or is it best to buy, after you guys have done a review on it having it for a few weeks?.....
