Depends on the asthetic, if you want a traditional shinkai or ghibli style anime background then the lines are ya enemigo lol but if you do the lines not too thick and not Jet black in color, the background would still look good

Not sure what canvas size he used, but as a heads up it's better to use a smaller canvas size with a higher DPI 350-600. Larger canvas sizes lead to lag in most programs when making detailed paintings. DPI increases the amount of detail (pixel density) in a canvas.
i never expected the secret to making anime backgrounds like the ones you see in anime, was to actually not use outlines in the final version.

You have to be really good at values and colors for your artwork to pop off without line art.
