Being Lakota it's interesting to see how only the privileged people doing good things get recognition.
The aquaphor in Pierre SD needs to be finished. There is metal in the water is making the people sick. Mercury and Barium are not only killing our people slowly, but all of those that are impoverished or under upper middle class.
It is nice to be beautiful, but looks and frivolous actions don't change things.
If you've been to the Reservations you would see that it's gonna take more than braiding your hair to affect change. A lot of people think what I have to say is mean and to that I say the world is a hard place. Coming from the really real, this reminds me of the white people that come to "help the Indians" but really it's all about looking good to other people.
Being Lakota today, this is all fodder. Our people are held down by apathy and Custer's revenge. It's totally fine for the doctors to give subpar care and to kill us. There is an actual Population Control office in the capital building in Pierre...
Like I said this was a nice video, but it's the Disney version of the real hell most live in.
If you want to fight for the water, fight to get the aquaphor finished. I got one of the meth labs torn down, that is more of the real work that needs to be done. We're all beautiful in our tribe that's why we get stolen, but we don't have the luxury to capitalize on that. I'm a Descendant, so if you are going to represent us at least do some real work towards making change. We are the only people to fight the US Government and win, act like it, or just joint the white world where looks and grooming make a difference, we need warriors not models.

Sadly, for every success story like hers', there are too, too many stories of sorrow, of poverty and depression and abuse and far worse. Their isolation and status as tribal girls and women makes them especially vulnerable to trafficking and abuse, violence and death. I am very sorry, and wish to apologize to the women of the Native Tribes, for the sins of my Fathers and even now those of my brothers.
Just because you are being victimized, does NOT mean you deserve it. You are Human and thus represent the highest evolutionary achievement that this Planet Earth has produced. Humanity really needs to stop behaving like those more primitive hominids that occupied the African Savannah's 2 million years ago.
How can we loose the violent beast in ourselves? How can we evolve and elevate our consciousness and the status of our civilization and the health of the Earth?
It starts with us Humans. We can make conscious choices to protect or destroy. It's possible to choose life and a better life of respect and hope.
And that is what I see in her.

See the other side of the "coin". This other side is the side we don't see often, but it's just as golden. Just as valuable as the side with the images of the Dead White Presidents. I would put images on all our US coins that one side would have a Native Tribal Person's image. Not necessarily a specific person of history. Rather a person from now. Their forgotten culture is our culture that the White Culture told us not to value. But it's equal and yet opposite.
She is the other side of the coin. The Native Tribal People are the "other" People of this land and they have always been here.

We have Chiefs still, they should be on the coins. She's not even a descendant that I know of, so it would be like having models on coins instead of people of merit like my family.
