    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  4 роки тому +6

      Hi Mya,
      If you try to find the “weaknesses” in one you’re maybe focusing on the wrong thing.
      You should only ever choose a direction based on the strengths it presents, and how those align with your preferences.
      If ornithology is your thing and one of these unis has the worlds best bird watching club, you’d be better off to choose it rather than reject it because, to use your example, you have to go uphill to class.
      Make sense?
      Always pick based on strengths, not pick against because of weaknesses.

    • @MyaLevis
      @MyaLevis 4 роки тому

      @@ChoosingYourUni usually I'd agree with you but unfortunately both universities offer everything I could ever possibly be interested in. They're both a little big for my liking but other than that, they completely match my list of requirements and have equal number of "pros" so I do need to think about the cons in order to make a decision between them.

    • @ChoosingYourUni

    Hi Rob! I'm currently facing a dilemma in whether to place USYD or UNSW as my first preference for Civil Engineering. I understand that UNSW is ranked 1st in Australia for Civil and Structural Engineering under the ARWU and QS Rankings, with USYD at 2nd in Australia under the ARWU and QS Rankings for Civil and Structural Engineering. What are the pros and cons for both universities for this course? Does UNSW's trimester system make it easier or harder to access internships? - as the breaks between teaching periods are shorter at 1-2 weeks compared to 1-2 months with USYD's semester system. Is it easier to undertake global exchange with UNSW's trimester system? Thanks!

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  2 роки тому +2

      Both awesome unis. Trimesters shouldn't make things more difficult for internships, which will just be configured around the study period. For overseas study, trimesters makes longer term experiences like exchange more complicated but there's still plenty of time for shorter programs. So if that's a deal breaker for you that might be a factor. Honestly, both top top institutions - UNSW maybe a shade in front for me.

  • @dillonoconnor3083
    @dillonoconnor3083 Рік тому +1

      This depends on your home uni dates. Normally you’d do 1-2 trimesters at UNSW but check with your college as to what you need to do to get enough credit because it depends on their agreement.

      Not every university can be good at everything. And it would be self defeating for even the best universities to try to "do it all".

I've heard that it ranks quite highly in employability rankings, but does that vary from faculty to faculty? are there any specific sites/apps that have reviews on teaching faculty and staff of UNSW that I can check out? just one last question, are the societies and clubs truly good for networking and socializing? I've just heard so much mixed opinions about them from people so I'm a bit skeptical.

      @ChoosingYourUni  Рік тому +1

      Hi! Sorry for the delay replying. So many good unis for this combo - the ones you've mentioned are the big unis with huge campuses, opportunities and student bodies. So if you're looking for a big uni, those are good choices. I'd also throw UTS and RMIT in the mix in those categories.
      If you're looking for a slightly smaller university that still has good programs in those areas (in Sydney and Melbourne, since those are what you've chosen so far), I'd have a look at Macquarie in Sydney and Deakin/Swinburne in Melbourne.
      A few broader comments: don't stress too much about your choice... you can always change. If you're taking arts/media subjects, those will generally transfer pretty well between unis, so you won't be "wasting" time if you end up deciding to move unis.
      I'd also think about what city you want to live in. Sydney and Melbourne are great cities, heaps going for them. But they are certainly more expensive than somewhere like Brisbane. The weather is great in Brissie and QUT and UQ both have excellent programs worth looking at.
      A handful of thoughts for you - good luck!

    I got offers from UNSW and RMIT for studying interior design (or interior architecture in unsw) and I am really struggling now! I really love the vibe of unsw as saw from this video, but rmit has a really high ranking in design. Wt should I choose?

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  5 років тому +3

      This is a good question. Both universities are fantastic.
      Why I would choose RMIT:
      - Inner city location, tonnes to do.
      - Excellent university. Probably one of the best in the country for practical work integrated learning in their degrees
      - Tonnes of overseas study opportunities
      - Huge uni, lots of clubs etc.
      - Melbourne is a great city with a vibrant culture. Less expensive than Sydney (once you're outside the city centre a bit)
      Why I would choose UNSW:
      - Single campus with a great vibe (RMIT is a collection of buildings in the CBD of Melbourne).
      - Outside the city centre of Sydney, not far from the beach and not far to the city (20 minutes on the new tram).
      - Group of 8 "prestigious" university.
      You'll notice I have framed these as positives. You should choose based on the things you like and are interested and how they align with the strengths of each uni.
      Let me know what you decide!

      Did some CS units at USyd, just don't.. compared to UNSW pretty much all Aussie unis pale in comparison when it comes to CS given just how much UNSW focuses on CS & Engineering. USyd CS has solid research but the undergraduate experience is a pain due to certain lecturers being difficult (Intro to Programming and 2nd yr Algorithms in particular).
