The massive increase in the use of food banks shows how well things actually are going.
I seen to remember they tried to take credit for food banks a while back
NHS Hospitals and public schools are also falling apart because the Tory government did nothing about the RAAC issue during their 14 years in power.
Under Blair's Labour, food banks didn't exist because there was no need; if you were in work, work paid enough that you needed no relief, and if you were out of work, benefits were at a level that no extra, private relief was needed.
Utterly shameless and no contrition for their errors. This is why they are hellbound.

As is life expectancy actually going down and children getting shorter. When Trott does international comparison, she should compare these statistics too. In all international comparison statistics, UK fares miserably. The NHS was ranked number one health care service under Labour. Not now! Yes it might have been higher, BUT, if you are in a hole, lets say one is called the EU, and it's 20ft deep, and there's another hole, lets call it the UK and it's 50 ft deep, EU climbed 10ft out of the hole, and the UK climbed 20ft out of their hole, the UK might have climbed more, but who's in the better position, hint, it is NOT the UK.
That is a representation of the economies.

It's like the Tories devalued your £10 until it was only worth £1, if it grew 100% in the last quarter to £2, it still isn't worth £10.

She is now, apparently, my MP thanks to the most ridiculous Conservative managed electoral commission "reform", dumping us out of a working class constituency, where we live a mile from the town centre of Dartford, to a constituency based & named for a town 18 miles away inhabited by wealthy, middle class, well to do, God's waiting room attendees. She is probably the thickest, dumbest MP left on the Tory benches. The rest are just useless evil, right wing idealists.

What they don't understand is that we don't measure the quality of our day to day lives against whether our economy is growing faster than anybody's, we measure it in how much money do I have left after your actions forced up rent/mortgages. How we keep needing to use a foodbank. If we need medical treatment can we get it promptly. These are the ways in which the average person gauges how well or bad things are. Completely out of touch.

Laura Trott isn't talking to British people. She is talking to wealthy British people who don't want to feel guilty about poor people being worse off. Like many ministers in the last government she was promoted beyond her ability. When Evan Davis interviewed her she kept insisting that growth was rising as a percentage of GDP, although the figures clearly indicated otherwise. As long as they continue like this I can't see them returning to power.

Since 2015, Germany has grown by 15% more than the UK. Even if we take into account that the UK is currently growing faster, this makes German growth for the same period 13.5% more. What are we supposed to be celebrating?
Perhaps it should be Laura Trott's 'Duty to Work' [Fascism] to state that in 2020 the UK GDP growth rate was by far the worst in the G7 at -10.36% [statista]?!

Under Labour from 1997-2010 the economy grew at an average of 2.3% per year. Since the Conservatives took over in May 2010, the UK economy has only grown at 1.2%. Facts don't lie. Plus since 2020 prices are 20% higher because of inflation and wages have no where near kept up.

The growth in the economy was the largest in the G7 while the people were suffering a cost of living crisis.
Someone was getting better off while the majority was getting worse off. That is what she has just admitted.

The 2 quarters of positive growth on headline GDP aren't reflected in gdp per capita and are down to 2 million visa's issued in the last 2 years
The real growth the tories should be proud of is the massive growth of sewerage in the rivers and seas. However the water companies proudly tell us about how great they are at monitoring it.just a pity they monitor it and not only do nothing about but increase it year on year.l sometimes wonder if this is the real reason we left the eu.

Tim Harford on more or less debunked this myth. last years growth we were at the bottom of the league table. the last quarter growth is because we had been so poor historically. why dont the politicians have these stats at their fingertips??? listen to the man Harford talk about the facts

When Labour left power in 2010 the national debt stood at £600 billion after the bank bailouts. The national debt is now 2.5 trillion! No two sides to this argument. It was even 1.9 trillion before the pandemic.

When Rishi did his speech outside No 10 with no umbrella he quoted this growing fastest in G7. The facts are these q1 of 2024 was 0.7% higher than q4 of 2023. This was the highest. However he failed to say q4 of 2023 was disastrous ie -0.3% compared to Q3, worse than all G7 bar Germany. The measure he should have been talking to was the 12 month average to Q1 of 2024 versus 12 month to Q1 of 2023 0.3% growth lower than all G7 bar Japan and Germany. A much more reliable metric. Tories deliberately misleading the public and Ms Trott continuing this nonsense.
Once again she claims credit for inflation coming down but when it went up they said that it was external factors and not their fault.
