  • Piers Morgan Uncensored hosted by Richard Tice and Isabel Oakeshott takes a dramatic turn as the pair are joined by former Deputy Prime Minister Lord Michael Heseltine to debate whether the Government should accept that Brexit has failed.
Remainer Lord Heseltine thinks you only need to look at the newspapers to accept "Brexit is dead" - but Isabel argues that the process of leaving the EU has only been held up because of people like him.
Former Brexit MEP Ann Widdecombe and family lawyer Paula Rhone-Adrien also have their say after Heseltine ends his interview by giving Richard and Isabel a good telling-off...

Has anybody ever asked themselves why people like Anne Widdecombe constantly talk about 'brexit opportunities' or 'brexit freedoms' which apparently we're not yet making use of, but they never ever say what exactly these opportunities are? Odd that.
The fact that the UK only left the EU at the end of December 2020 is not relevant. What is relevant is the time spent preparing or rather not preparing, for December 2020 and that time, between 2016 and 2020 was squandered, wasted, no meaningful preparations for December 2020 were made. Now I do take the point to make preparations was difficult, for several reasons, but crux of the matter is: those in charge didn't prepare for Dec 2020 and to then come back afterwards and say, it's not Brexit, it's the way Brexit was done, or not done, is a bit rich, particularly if no alternatives are being suggested.
To have left without any deal at all would have meant a visible border on the island of Ireland and leaving aside, for a minute, the point whether or not a visible border is actually necessary, some dispute that it is, a visible border, necessary or not, would nevertheless have been the consequence of leaving without a deal with the EU.
'So what', said the Brexiters, 'if the EU want to put a visible border there, then let them, at least we don't have to pay for it.'
Well, this is where the American Trade deal comes in, because leaving the EU was supposed to be followed by lots of countries rushing towards the UK, desperate for Trade deals. Except that the biggest fish in the pond then said : if you cause trouble on the Island of our ancestors, i.e. a visible border on Ireland, you can forget about any Trade deal and start preparing for the US of A to make UK life a bit difficult.
Now we can debate the fairness or otherwise of this situation but it won't change the actual situation as it was. What remains to be said here is that those who lead the Leave Campaign knew full well what was in store and chose to keep stumm until after the referendum. Few if any leave campaigners drew attention to what leaving the EU would mean for the Irish border situation, they were happy to beat the drum of economic benefits, huge savings coming from no longer paying anything to the EU and offers for Trade deals from the rest of the world - which of course didn't come because even if 17,410,742 Brits couldn't or chose not to see it - the rest of the world did see that the UK was about to allow itself to be lead into economic, cultural and social self-harm by a small group of selfish politicians and business men. After all - who in their right mind would want to enter into any trade deal with a nation that turns round 6 months later, tearing up the agreement because they hadn't read properly what they signed up to?

True, of course if there was a single defined version of Leave before people actually voted, they could have implemented straight after the vote. But the Leavers spent years arguing about what Leave meant. It turns out that "Brexit means Brexit" wasn't actually meaningful. Obviously if the people were presented with a single actual version of Brexit, "Leave" would never have won. There never was a majority for a single type of leave. It's crystal clear that a Leave vote was never an informed vote, the elite told the people what Leave meant AFTER the people voted, and pretended that was democratic. At least everyone who voted Remain voted for the same thing.

@@NothingButSilicone Again, in Ireland, because we have a history of being forced to emigrate for a multitude of reasons, amongst them being starved to death as a people by a foreign colonial power, we have a deep understanding of how immigrants to our country should be treated. They have thrived and in many instances have become more Irish than the Irish themselves. Therefore, there is absolutely no danger of us losing our traditions and our culture. On the issue of asylum seekers, we take as many as is humanly possible, because again, our history as a nation has taught us that we were once in the same position and have "learned" from our history. There is free movement of all EU citizens between each member state and we have various rights whilst doing so (like moving between states in America). The UK has pulled out of the EU largely based on English nationalism and far right political ideals. Any economist would confirm that it was financial suicide to do this. Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU, which paves the way firstly for Scottish independence and consequently a united Ireland.

    • @NothingButSilicone

I myself am a conservative, which for Europe, means I’d probably be very far right. But, if what you say is true, seems like a foolish move to me. I care about the economy more than I do anything else. I was just always under the impression that being an EU member took away freedom of choice. That there were some strict guidelines that needed to be followed. Again, the flack that was given to Hungary was even reported here, and I really don’t blame them. Not the biggest fan of Hungary today, but I can’t blame them for that.
As for the Irish and mass immigration or asylum seekers to the UK, I don’t see how the two are comparable. The Irish are on their land. With their culture. Not millions upon millions leaving to countries with a very contrasting culture and background. Sure, in the past Irish had moved to the US in large numbers, but not like this. Not even close. Plus they are much more similar culturally. Their way of life was not much different from the people that had already settled here for centuries.

So no UK warehouses, no UK truckers.

UK got out 2 years ago, but the preparations for it (and hence the financial damage) started when it was clear that UK would actually leave - so maybe not 6 years but not even 2 - I would say somewhere in between. However Brexiteers emphasizing that it was "just 2 years" can be seen from a different aspect - their argument is that the financial damage can't be because of Brexit because it's just been 2 years ago.... I would argue, if in 2 just years Brexit caused so much damage to the UK, then perhaps it is causing even much more damage then we thought and at a much faster rate!
UK rejoining the EU? I think there should be a referendum in the EU to establish whether the EU citizens like me would want the UK to rejoin in the first place! I'm not saying the UK would be prohibited from rejoining based on this referendum, but at least it sets the negotiation grounds to establish who wants who and at which terms. I would definitely vote against UK rejoining neither now, nor ever. At best, they can re-join the single market, but having a member state with such an attitude would only harm the union - history has proved Charles de Gaulle was right!
