Building Airfix BF 110 - Model Aircraft
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 сер 2015
- A timelapse build of the Airfix Messerschmitt Bf110C-2, the Luftwaffe's primary twin-engined fighter and long range strike aircraft during the Battle of Britain.
THIS IS OLD TOOLING. Airfix are releasing a new version with improved moulding soon.
Although this kit is from the Dogfight Doubles set, the sprue is the same as the other Airfix Bf110 kits. The only difference is a reduced number of decals.
I'd recommend this to beginners, but only once they have gained some experience and got some decal solution!!

The First non-airbrushed model I've seen. This is how I used to make my models.A very nice job.
I thought I was semi-decent at model building until I saw this guys results. XD
Meepingkraken Gaming I think everyone is like that haha!
I'm the same way, mate.
Watch plasmo
Me to
ahahaha me too
I was amazed by how well this came out without the use of an airbrush
If you paint in thin layers you can get an airbrushed effect
When you thin the paint out with water or the appropriate solution based on your paints base, you no longer see brush strokes like a thick based paint.
Finally! I found someone that is using a normal brush that I can learn from. Thank you!
Love these videos it's so refreshing to see someone make a model without a highly expensive airbrush kit that not everyone can afford when making models in there spare time, keep it up !
Brandon Hennessy Thanks I'm glad you appreciate that!
Good format for novice Makers...great job bud.
PS. There is hope for the World yet, with such a young, articulate, clearly quite well dispositioned guy, doing something non profit to help others develop a skill. Love it.
Looks Great I enjoyed your video
Andy's Hobby Headquarters Thank you!
The use of the pencil to create a panel line effect sans airbrush is very effective
Nice work, keeping costs down and some clever work arounds, it's also refreshing to see only moderate weathering, many builders go way over the top. Keep it up!
It's a brave modeller that hand paints the canopy of a BF110 in 1/72 scale. Well done on building a model kit that I once built myself way back in the 1970's. It's amazing how such an old model mould can still be put to good use.
i cant believe this was all hand brushed.... im jealous and amazed.
Well done!
Nice to have someone talking through their video explaining their experiences.
Very nice job! When I get back to building this fall, I will use some of the techniques you have shown for weathering. Thank you for all of the help!
Yet another great build and well explained for us novices, thanks for sharing.
What a great build, lovely detail. Your inspiration and generosity of spirit shine through. Thanks.
It is just what young people needs - video with quite good and cheap models with simple techniques of painting.
Hey man, just wanted to say that your videos are brilliant! I love how you don't airbrush anything, just good old brushing, plus, you show what you use and time lapse very clearly how you build it, fantastic, thank you! :D
+Charlie Olley Glad you enojy them and appreciate me not using an airbrush :) thank you!
You have such perfection when creating these models and boggles my mind on how well you do it. Keep up the great work! :D
RolosReviews Thanks a lot man! :D
1/72, hand painted... boy, you are a real modeler!. Congrats, beautiful model!.
Great video Owen! Soon I'll be getting the tropical new tooled version of this and can't wait for it. This video really helped, especially how to assemble the cockpit. Take care👍
Another terrific speed build. Glad you used the crewman....they look great. I like your panel line technique....quick and effective. Keep having fun.
Bill.
***** Glad you liked the pencil idea! I was worried it was gonna ruin the model at one point, but it turned out pretty cool I think. Thanks Bill!
+Quick Kits i have never tried it with the pencil but i think i will
superb work just with a hand brush. Simply amazing that you were able to make results similar to an airbrush :)
That's the best finish I've ever seen using brushes. Looks airbrushed. Wonderful work!
+DrM wow thank you very much!! :D
Thank you for posting this, I wasn't gonna get this exact one, but I was going to get an old revell bf 109g 10, mostly it was the cheapest in Amazon. Once I looked at some reviews on it I then realized it was a really... old model. Being made 1976, or something, and the scary part is, I only have BRUSHES. I wasn't sure if I had the right paint for the job, or what to do with it, but this video really helped me out plan what I should do. So thanks for the great video, and have a great day!
Nicely done! Excellent work!
Good brush and weathering techniques. I'll definitely try some of them on my upcoming fw190 and Spitfire models.
Cool result without airbrush!
Scale Journal Thanks, glad you like the finish :)
@@quickkits airbrush power , the dark side of force ,LOL
Sweet. Nice job sir . I liked the pencil for panel lines. Looking forward to more videos from you
Nice build buddy, good effects for brush painting, well done!
Very, very good see an excellent modeller using the old fashion way. Greetings from Brazil!
Beautiful assembly. Congratulation!
Excellent videos and nice to see 1/72 and 1/76 models back in fashion! Cool music too
Thank you!
Quick Kits hey do you think you could ever do a video where you show us your entire model collection??
Quick Kits please!!!
Really cool build. I love the look of the BF110.
Toby Corbett Thanks a lot Toby, glad you like it! :)
Very nice result! And video was done very interesting, good luck with your projects!
Good job mate, that model looks just fantastic.
Wow the music in this is AWESOME!
These are some of the very best videos I have ever seen about building plastic airplane kits. The lighting, camera angles, and commentary are all excellent. I am very impressed with your brush-painting and weathering techniques too! By the way, I am a professional voice-over and on-camera talent myself, and I am not easily impressed. Kudos to you!
Great build, Owen! I recently built the trop version myself, fun little kit! I like the "keep it simple and have fun" vibe that comes off of your builds. I tend to fuss over tiny little details too much to the point where it can suck all the enjoyment out of the hobby. Videos like these are a nice reminder where I should put my focus and lot more motivational to me than those that tell you how to get every single rivet right. Thumbs up from me!
***** Thanks a lot I'm really glad it's motivated you! I know some people spend months on a build adding in extra rivets and scratch building struts and stuff but yeah I prefer to keep it simple and fun!
This looks really nice, especially as you hand painted it, I had this dogfight double kit as a child and while I enjoyed it immensely, not sure I could compete with your ability, but I would like to get back into modeling.
In my opinion this is your best model yet!
Like the way you did the canopy, far better than all the tedious masking. Think I'll try with my 110!
A very simple kit but looks amazing!
I just started up this hobby 3 months now and I have watched a lot of tutorials and how to videos here on you tube. I have to say I like how yours are right to the point and very informative. Thank you.
Jayman22 Coope That's why I make them, when I started out I was overwhelmed with the vast number of tutorial videos out there which were like 25 minutes long and usually involved an airbrush so I just stopped watching them. It's extremely good to hear that you like my videos, I try to waste as little of people's time as possible :) Thank you for commenting!
Yay. An easy way to get that pre-shaded look. Will apply in the near future if I could.
with only a brush! Very cool! Nice!
Mauro Martinez Thank you, I do try and vary and experiment with different techniques to keep the videos (and for myself, the hobby) more interesting. Glad they inspire you!
How long did these take you. also it looks stunning
+Quick Kits what are you using for making the exhaust stains?
Sorry I'm no here but what song did you use in this vide? It's simply amazing and fits the video so well.
Colby White "Grass" by Silent Partner
amazing painting job with the brush, awesome skill.
+Milan Vnuk Thanks! :D
What an excellent build this has really spurred me on to get back into the hobby, just subscribed
That's fantastic - I'm glad it's been an inspiration
Wow, nice work, really came out great.
Nice job - clear, simple instructions to a decent 1/72 scale kit; I particularly liked the way you simulated the engine exhaust and chipping. Bravo
+Stephan Bodini thanks! I'm glad you liked it :)
+Quick Kits You're welcome. And, as a matter of interest, which aeroplane kit would you recommend to a beginner? (I am particularly interested in WWII 'planes, both bombers and fighters). Thanks!
+Stephan Bodini The 1/72 Airfix Spitfire you can't go wrong with, the new tooled version is great! The starter set comes with paints, glue and brushes. Revell do some starter sets too but I don't trust them quite as much after I got a 1/72 Mustang that was quite bad.
+Quick Kits Excellent - that's good advice (BTW, may I know your name?)
Incredible work
I wish I was that good with a paint brush. Nice work.
to me, it is an excellent build and paint work that I can not echieve with my airbrush. I would not quit modelling if I could do half of you, my young friend. Congrats...
At 53 just / having a bash at a spitfire 1:72 scale by airfix. I have respect to you all making something so small look realistic.
Learned so much. Thanks
Beautiful!
Great build Owen
This is beautifully done.
Thank you!
very neat work you did an excellent work there
Superb.. Just goes to show you don't need an airbrush to make a model look as good as this does. Well done..
Neat build!
you are the great I watch you everyday! you make the best videos!keep the great work up!
Damn good work man !
Although it's not very detailed u made it look amazing well done
Great work... makes me want to go out and get back into model-building.
But reading through the comments, I now understand why some other model-builders have comments disabled on YT.
Great build mate :-) I really liked the end result.
+Cabilis66 Thanks!
Wow, wonderful!!!
very cool build.
Nov. 9, 2018----Thanks for the video and looks great. Got a bunch of the old Airfix kits that I haven't built in my stash. What I've always like about them is they look good out of the box, but if you want, you can improve your modeling skills by doing a lot of scratch building/modifications.
Looks great :)
I've got to say Owen your videos have a really high quality to them, I wish mine were as good as yours! Im just building the Eduard BF110E at the moment, I reviewed the kit and have a build thread on ISM under the name Sprue Surgeon
I didn't know about PVA trick, thanks!
Nice work and very some nice tips for us novices
You make really good videos....with very nice builds..!
Thank you very much! :)
Impressive how you painted and finished the model without and airbrush .. good job painting the canopy : )
Vortex Thank you, the canopy was especially fiddly on this one paining-wise!
Hi Owen, love your channel! It was one of the inspirations that got me back into scale modeling. I tried your technique with the pencil pre-shading, but I didn't get the effect that you achieved in the video though. I'll probably end up painting it over again and do a chalk wash in the end. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work!
That's great to hear that my videos inspired you to get back into it, but I'm sorry the technique didn't work. Make sure your pencil is a 2B - 5B, HB and H's won't smudge easily
Thanks for the reply, I did use a 4B, but I suspect the paint I used was too matte (I used Revell acrylics) and possibly the graphite settled too much into the surface structure to be able to smudge properly. I'll try again sometime on a semi-gloss surface to see if it makes a difference.
Cheers
Great technique with the pencil.
the pencil technique was cool!might want to use it on my next model project.
Zuzy Anggriany Thanks I hope it works for you! :D
Great job!👍👍👍
Thank you!
Beautiful build!
Love that pencil trick...
Great stuff
I know the music you used is "Grass" but at one point it sounded like the Destiny theme music. Also, fantastic video man you are much, much better at scale modelling than i ever will be! I recently bought a 1:72 Harrier jet and i love it.
Who is the artist of that song "Grass"? Thanks
Great job
Nice job you've done there - congrates :)
ModArt633 Thanks mate!
Looks very nice.
Flugzeugbauer Thank you!
This guy is a genius because he makes his models look so realistic with cheap stuff
Why thank you haha!
i remember when i used to do these when i was younger but damn you do them to be as realistic as possible! maybe i should try and do one now?
Looks realy nice. And all that without using an airbrush. Respect :-)
***** Thanks a lot! :) I'm quite enjoying the challenge of trying to make things look airbrushed but using normal brushes
my favorite kind of video Owen, plus amazing build! nice to see you!
AlexModeling Thanks a lot Alex, glad you like it!! :D
Damn, that turned out great. This is why I like the early Airfix kits....build 'em out of the box or if you want to improve your modeling skills, you can go to town on it re-scribing panel lines, scratch built cockpit interior, etc.
You are the best youtuber in the world!!!!!
Thank you very much for the precious video you made at this time of hard times. I hope that the Corona Virus 19 will disappear as soon as possible, and at the same time, I hope that your channel will grow and become a channel that has been a dream come true.

Marko Miletic Thank ya! ;)
Nice model !!!
Boris Malatin Thanks man!! :)
beautiful
Like the pencil idea very much thank you.
+David Thompson Cool, you're welcome!
Masterpiece!
Nice job!
Thanks!
awesome build!!!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁
I might actually get this airfix set.
George Fishlock I would recommend it, definitely better than other dogfight sets I've had, the Spitfire is great... but then I think they have re-tooled most of them now so they might all be good? Anyway thank you!!
No THANKYOU😁😁
