5 years later and this video is still super useful. I was debating between the regular backpack and the travel and showing an example of what you can pack helped my decision on the travel pack.
I travel 20-30 times per year and made my first trip with the Nomatic Travel Pack this week. It is agonizingly close to the perfect carry on bag, but with two annoying things I experienced from real world usage. First, the luggage sleeve design leads to a horizontal lay on top of a roller bag. Some problems with this - the backpack straps sometimes drag on the floor unless you tie them up somehow and it makes getting a laptop out more difficult than it should be. It also eliminates one of the water bottle pockets completely and makes the other one an adventure to use as it doesn't hold the bottle securely enough for me to trust it won't fall out in the horizontal position. A simple elastic strap across the back panel to secure the bag in the upright position like most other bags would solve both of these problems. Second, the tablet sleeve is a bit of a waste of space and will barely fit a 10.5inch tablet like the iPad Pro with case. A better design would be to just have tablet sleeve share the same width available as the laptop compartment so that you can fit a larger tablet or so that it isn't such a tight fit. I find this interesting because the other backpack they released (which I also have) has a much bigger (and better) tablet slot. Nomatic should have done the same with the travel pack (and the travel bag which also shares this problem). I really hope to see a version 2 of these in the future that addresses both of these items.
For what it's worth, I have the horizontal luggage sleeve on another backpack and I rather prefer it. I keep my rolling luggage handle half-drawn so as to minimize torque on the handle's internal connectors and I dislike vertical backpack sleeves that disallow this. That said, I always have my water bottle on the upside and have never had an issue with it sliding out, but that might be different with the Nomatic's water bottle holder.
I just received my travel pack and am very pleased with the quality. Out of hundreds of Backpacks and many months of searching, this was the only backpack that had all the features I wanted: Light colored interior, Cable pass-through, slips over luggage handle, TSA laptop compartment, decent space, and doesn't have an ugly fabric look to it. I was pleasantly surprised on how quick Nomatic was able to get me the backpack as well considering I live in Alaska.
Just got mine last week and LOVE IT!!!! You guys did a killer job with this one, with very durable, high quality material and above all - this bag looks SHARP!

I have this bag and its functionally perfect! One thing you should add cosmetically though, That teal color used inside for the zipper lining...If you add a touch of that on the outside, my wife and sister would have bought the bag. Sounds silly, but the bag is very masculine, (looks great) but a separate version with a bit of color might go along way
I just received my bag today and I’m so excited to begin using it on the daily. It’s packed and ready! I did have one question, however. How do you use/access the headphone/cable ports inside the bag?
The updated bag has better zippers, I have used this older model for a year now. This bag is amazing for people who like extreme organization and functionality. Being able to open it all the way and have a ton of usefull pockets is great, and everything it says it does very well. If you need a pack for outdoor use, this is not going to be good. It is heavy and rubery but does not do good for scratching and such. I do not mind the scratching but its strange

Also the "Zipper on the inside of the expansion" (as described in this video) was not shown in the kick starter video or implied in any of the images on this page. The "Zipper on the inside of the expansion" could not be seen in the images which showed the 'expansion open', nor were there any images or video showing packing methods which suggested access to the blue mesh area from the expansion side (only from the "Full Perimeter Zipper" side of the bag) as revealed in this video? Is the "Zipper on the inside of the expansion" a new feature? Will this be available on the kick starter release of the bags (I hope it is)? Allowing access to pack this bag from the full perimeter zipper side into the expansion area or to open the bag into a "suit case" and pack from the expansion zipper side into the full perimeter zipper section of the bag gives incredible versatility and is a market differentiating feature in my opinion. I think you guys should be advertising and focusing the bag on this innovative feature. Will be very happy to see this with the initial kick starer bags offerings.
Good question. We have both a backpack and a travel pack. The backpack does not have the zippered expansion however, the travel pack (the one in this video) looks like the backpack in many ways, but it has that zippered expansion.
If you look in their website you can see them, the backpack is for 1 day usage, while the travelpack is for 3 days of trips max or if you want to carry more each day, aside some differencs in the main compartement to reflect the usage you can get of each of the bags, the travelpack can expand to 30 liters, while the backpack can expand to 24. For me it was a no brainer to get the travelpack, so I can use it daily and expand if I need to carry way more than usual, and then for those 1-3 day trips.

NOMATIC I’m so glad to hear that I was really afraid that my iPad Pro wouldn’t fit along with the laptop, it’s the newer iPad Pro with the magnetic pencil and a keyboard folio, would either of those two attachments be an issue?
U just forgot the one most important thing tht is “anti theft” on this back pack , mybe next time u can give this pack with elastic metal wire or something like tht, to make sure your cust is already safe :) but overall i like this backpack i want this one for my everyday backpack (y) good job n i hope this can shipping on indonesia hahaha

I so want to purchase this but my only concern is that I do a lot of short stay domestic travel for business and although it looks like it will fit all the things perfectly, I'm worried about the weight. Was hoping to find a solution from having to have checked in luggage for 1-2 night stays but can't what he packed all coming in under 7kg. Its not a Nomatic problem - just a reality problem.

Im not here to criticize, but I wouldn't put my wallet in that back pocket, looks like it would too easy for someone to get into especially in a loud and crowded airport or bus terminal. though that hidden secret pocket looks like a good feature. Maybe Nomatic needs to develop a money belt, your products seem well thought out, a money-valuables pouch-belt would be something I would be interested in. I'm motorcycle Photojournalist and space is always at a premium on a motorcycle, so being able to pack gear into a single bag is always welcomed. (I carry my photo gear in photo computer backpack and my clothes in a Roll travel bag, tools and equipment for my motorcycle are on a pouch mounted to the motorcycle itself) Your pack would work for me though, I use a Mirrorless camera on occasion and the kit fits into a very small cube pack. No, what Alan is saying (I’m in same boat) is that when we bought ours back in February the website said “Backordered Will Ship Apr 12” When you spend 219$ and it’s May 3rd and you still haven’t received your product and they respond by saying it’ll ship tomorrow... and then it doesn’t... everyday for a month and no updates Needless to say that if my bag ever does ship, it’ll be the last I buy from them And I was an original backer of the Travel Bag too. I have a trip planned for June and I bought this bag 2 months ago and at this point I doubt I will have it By then
I just received my Travel Pack and it is AWESOME. I traveled from Fri to Mon and it fit ALL of my clothes. That us saying a lot as I am 6'6" and 350 so my clothes are huge. The bag is really great and goes from work bag to travel suitcase VERY easily. Ordered 3/6 and received 5/3.
Depends on what you will be using it for! If you'll be using it for traveling, go for the Travel Bag. If you're going to use it as an everyday school or work bag, go with the Backpack. Or get the best of both worlds with the Travel Pack :)

Not built in, but there are cord pass-throughs so you can put in a phone charger and connect it to the fleece-lined cell phone pocket.

efficient space but i wonder about weight distribution...looks brutally heavy. Straps should have came attached. Regardless of that, I dig the bag!

Depends on what you will be using it for! If you'll be using it for traveling, go for the Travel Bag. If you're going to use it as an everyday school or work bag, go with the Backpack. Or get the best of both worlds with the Travel Pack :)

Curious what the weight difference was before and after packing?
Just the weight of stuff you pack in. I got mine up to 18 kg in total (with some heavy mental stuff in).
The difference before and after packing is the weight of the bag.
