"Created and airing during the Vietnam War, although before the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, the episode featuring Tooter traveling back to WW I as a fighter pilot features some of "the most gruesome pro-war imagery" in cartoons of the period." ( Lehman, Christopher P. (2006). American Animated Cartoons of the Vietnam Era: A Study of Social Commentary in Films And Television Programs, 1961-1973. McFarland. pp. 14-. ISBN 9780786428182. Retrieved 3 December 2012.)
The author obviously knows very little about the animation industry. Cartoons in general, were in a serious period of decline in quality throughout the 1960's and early '70's. I read some excerpts from his book and it would seem that he picked a simple subject and tried to make it controversial, just to make money from it.

it was probably 1964 when I was watching it most.
I lived in Newark, just across the Hudson River from Manhattan and WNEW Channel 5, in 1961. Was a great fan of the Sa-ndy Becker Show.
Messerschmitts were not used in WW1. The Albatross was used in 1917. Also the Fokker D1 triplane.
Mr. Wizard is more of a tutor to Tooter, and Tooter is more of a tutee.
Thanks. I really wanted to see this just one more time.

Yeah, I saw that on Wikipedia -- so I just HAD to see the episode.
Looks like Chris Lehman was making some kind of joke.

ITS MITCH MCCONNELL
McConnell. Now re-type your post and try the insult again. It may be more effective that way.
