Whats ur guardian armor name pls?
😊😊
I didnt even know you moved slower going up slopes until mounts came out lol. This guide is probably the best combat introduction ive ever seen to gw2, might even be too good
This guide is amazingly clear, can't imagine of a better thing to help new players
Tottaly, although i play this game casually, this guide explains things so well, and i've learn a lot😳
Ps: Just subscribed😏
You know, I really hope Anet just links this in their Brand New Tutorial thing they spoke about. No matter how hard they try, they can't top this quality \o/
They just did it on the game launcher xD
GW2 is such an amazing game but really suffers for lack of in game tutorials for its many varied and deep mechanics. Not just in combat either. It's a lot of work to create supplementary material for new players but I hope this guide provides a lot of newbies with the help they need to get deep into the game and enjoy its fast, fun, and flexible combat system.
Thanks for taking the time to put it together, and good luck to any learning players!
3k hours played, did not know that you rally with 25% health, and only revives give you 50%... what can I say.
Thanks a lot for this incredible guide, Teapot.
I have been playing Guild Wars for over a decade but I still enjoy these videos. Its like the old times. Reading a book guide on the toilet.
I'm not a beginner anymore but I can really appreciate how effective this guide is. If ever had to recommend a single video for someone to learn the game from this is it.
This is a great guide and I know it will be a huge help for many new players. I see the vast majority of comments here are in support too but I'd like to point out a couple minor aspects of combat that I feel could have also fit in a video of this kind, although many are niche and perhaps not relevant in a beginners guide.
In the random order they popped into my head:
- Projectile reflections and absorption, new players can be confused by the difference and might get frustrated if they're killing themselves without understanding why.
- Evade, block, and invuln priority. For example if I have aegis and I dodge an attack the block will not be triggered.
- Avoiding attacks while immobilised, while like you mentioned you cannot use your normal dodge, some skills have their own evade frames or blocks and can still be cast even if they also normally cause movement like burning speed.
- Missing abilities because of blinds, it can catch people off guard because the condition is short and lost after one attack, it can be hard to hover over it while in combat. Also I think out of range melee attacks can trigger the miss text as well which confuses things further.
- Teleport abilities, since you covered other aspects of movement while in combat.
- Using skills to revive allies such as signets (or stomp with skills like impact strike).
- Weapon swap, I know this is something explained fairly well ingame but you can also use it to interrupt skills similarly to stow weapon, except this also works for movement skills allowing you to go further with the maintained momentum.
- Aftercast cancelling, probably outside the scope of a beginner guide but aftercast cancelling can be beneficial on certain skills like symbol of faith.
- Swapping weapons (from inventory) while outside of combat, not useful in pvp or raids, but in open world, fractals or dungeons this is a skill that's well worth practising.
- Bundles, either ones found in open world, dug up by pigs to conjured by elementalist friends to give you a new set of skills
- Max melee range, your character has a rectangular attack range rather than a circular one, this means the corners have slightly further reach and this can be abused when kiting enemies with the correct movement.
- Rallying from enemies only works if they grant the player experience.
- Racial skills?? can be situationally useful but are often forgotten (idk about this one)
- Instant casts don't cause interrupts (in addition to the lack of global cooldown)
- Linecasting, considered a pretty old school trick these days so probably outside the scope of this video too
I just looked into line casting as a result of your comment, and I have a question. Which skills is it worth line casting for? Is Guardian Scepter2 worth it?
A good comment and worth mentioning. I hope Teapot takes note of it and pin/use for the future.
@@sneakychopstick While it does work with symbol of punishment it's not worth going out of your way to abuse it. Skills which get more benefit are ones like frost storm or meteor shower since they are long cast time skills that do significant damage over a huge area. Also instead of using a dodge you can also use burning retreat or a blink skill, this means you're able to concentrate each hit down to a single point because the distance moved from the original casting location is that much further, making the skill very effective against enemies with smaller hitboxes. This trick is also dependant on the terrain to a degree, anywhere with a high wall or overhang can make it easier to abuse.
Something else which plays with the same mechanic is jumping while casting invoke lightning, while it is not a ground target skill, jumping will slightly reduce the area in which the lightning bolts can spawn.
@@SubiqT They fixed linecasting via dodge/burning retreat/lightning flash a long time ago. You can only compress AoE hitboxes via terrain now
Teapot raising the bar. Very very well made video! Everyone playing should check it out. Gj mate 👌🏽👍🏽
Me: Oh, I've been playing this game for eight years. I already know everything here-
"You can bind a key to about face to make your character immediately turn around"
Me: :O
that was me when he mentioned moving slower uphill..how have I never noticed that before I've played since beta >.
Hahahahaha, that's me too! Never knew you could do this. I'm always hopeless in duels with other player because i don't know how to turn around fast.
Always wondered how people did that! Left click to hold camera still doesn't seem to work, though.
The editing and production quality is just staggering. Amazing In depth presentation of the combat system.
Another fantastic ASMR guide from the man singlehandedly carrying one of the best games of the last 10 years.
Literally the deepest MMO combat system ever made so far.
Hands down the best combat tutorial I have ever seen. Showing this to veterans and newcomers alike
Trying to ge track into GW2 are making my first character 10 years ago, thank you so much for this amazing guide. I had not idea combos existed that is so freaking cool.
I have waited for years for someone to help me play the game properly. Thank you God Teapot. I know that you are always there even when Anet has abandoned us.
Arena net needs to pay this guy. He is basically carrying this game for free.
That's what most content creators do mate.
@kazi ayon well arent you overspook by the word "carrying".... if other online game i would agreed for sure, mightyteapot is a good streamer and surely working hard to keep things around, but mind you, this is guild wars 2 which basicly will live forever, no disrespect though.
@@odinthewiseone1335 the game is already half dead. It neither has the quality nor the playerbase it had like it used to during 2015-16. Anyone that thinks a game will live forever lives in a fools paradise and is a blind fanboy. No disrespect though. It dropped out of esports scene, comes up with only one fractals a year, no rework on dungeons, strikes and drms mean the raid scene is done. Didn't have a dedicated wvw dev for a long time. Only recently appointed one. Balance patches have become fewer. A lot of the good content creators left. But sure if you want to believe a game will live on forever, good luck living in that bubble.
this channel is sponsored by arenanet so..
Firstly, thanks Teapot, this is a first rate walkthrough of GW2 combat that I'm going to force my friends to watch.
Secondly, I cycle through a number of MMOs but I tend to play GW2 more often now because of the combat (and just for a moment I'm going to ignore the amazing scenery and music (as a mostly PVEr - I know, shame on me)). I like the lack of global cooldown especially but the ability to dodge or otherwise avoid attacks really puts your fate in your hands. GW2 combat forces you to spend your skills more wisely and pay more attention to your environment, whether you like it or not, and it's very fluid - you can be right on the raggedy edge and pull out an absolute blinder or get stomped like the pleb you are all because of your choices. It just makes winning or losing more epic.
I recently swapped in to another MMO which has a 1.5s global cooldown (that you can reduce to 1.3s!); I felt like I was waiting for a bus between each of my attacks, while knowing there was little I could do about incoming damage because, you know, RNG. I still love other MMOs because I'm a nerd, but I really wish they had GW2 combat.
This is actually a really good combat guide for the game - well done man ^^
Not only it covers pretty much everything you need to know, it also has some really good looking footage to showcase the game for new players.
Thank God you made this. Summit streaming gonna bring in a lot of new players.
well, not anymore since he quitted xD
@@bartekw.6405 I literally saw him playing last night on Twitch...get outta here.
that didn't age well.. At least pvp and wvw on most servers are in the worst state they've been in years. Regarding the population at least.
This should be part of the game tutorial, is that much well explained!
Thank you.
Highly recommended for summit to watch.
He should bring tons of newbies!
He already is and a bunch of returnee
This guilde is amaizing. I learn a lot that I did not know eaven existed. Thank you.
Started playing GW2 about 2 weeks ago after a 7 year break from MMORPGs and your videos were incredibly helpful since I forgot almost everything about the game and its mechanics. You did an excellent job mate!
Wow, I am amazed by this video! You explained everything just enough to make it perfectly clear and understandable while not overdoing it. 12/10
Excellent summary! Nice job tying in the video with the points you are making! Thank you!
Wooow! This is damn well made. All around extremely awesome guide. Great job!
This is the best GW2 combat guide I've ever seen for starting/new players. TeaPot really does more for this game than the whole staff of ANet's team, company wide.
Good amount of research, thank you for putting this together
It's a wonderful guide. I've just one thing to add which may not be too useful for most newbie players, but it's that jumping mid-animation can let you use skill from a higher distance. This is important for example if you're shooting a projectile and you're trying to shoot over a small hill or a wall. Especially important for Thieves, since that usually allows extra distance traveled with their shortbow skill 5.
This is one of the best videos about GW2 combat system made until now, years playing this and I come back each time to show to others or even remember some tips myself
Great guide dude, glad to see that kind of initiative in our community
Very clear and well explained content. props to you Teapot
I love all of your videos and follow Teatime regularly, but am glad you are now also doing more 'beginner friendly' stuff. Thanks!
Excellent video. I could have really used this when I started GW2 5+ years ago. Having no previous experience in an MMO, I had to learn a lot the hard way. Keep up the good work
Long time player here, but wow this is a highly detailed guide, anyone having trouble understanding the combat or who are new to the game HAVE to watch this!!
Excellent video! Sharing! Superb pacing and deliver. Thanks for making time to put this together.
"Optically busy" the best quote i've ever heard :D :D :D :D
Amazing!! I was trying to find that to convince my friends start to play GW2.
Great video. I've been playing for a couple months and learned a lot here
I've been playing everyday for 5 months and this guide was really helpful, ty ^^
No UA-cam video explains all these guides so clearly and informative than you do. Learnt a lot from these videos man. And I just started playing this game today 😂
This is one of the best guides made on the topic. Well done!
Absolutely fantastic video! Great job!
one of the most useful videos i have watched on gw2, nice ! cheers
This is like way better quality video than you normally do. I'm not hating on you buddy just noticing you really stepped up your game for this one.
I've played since the 3 day pre release and I still learnt some good stuff here. Thanks.
Excellent guide, thank you!!!!
Not only is this an amazing guide to help anyone learning how to play GW2, this should help people understand why combat in GW2 makes it the best MMO to nearly every person who plays it, especially competitively.
TY Teapot..you are respect man and player and commander..your work is great.!
this are exactly the words to show people whats so faszinating at this game, dude you making insane stuff, i am proud that you are part of the community !!
Excellent video! As a support Tempest, I love seeing that heart icon that means someone took advantage of my staff's fields. I do hope there's room in this series to go over the difference between optimal builds/comps and viable ones; I feel like that would be a good topic to go over.
Excellent guid mate will be referring to this when I start gw2 tomorrow 👍
I wish a video with that much clearence exisited when I started guild war 2. Great job
What a legend, 10/10 combat tutorial 👍👍👍
Amazing guide. It covers all necessary stuff. I wish somebody showed me similar video 2 years ago.
Great job! This guide will be super helpful to all new players!
Extremely useful guide with clear illustrations of all the topics covered, after all these years I still learn some details, great job! Only remarks I have would be to mention stowing is also useful to cancel some aftercasts and what is skill queuing (aka why spamming works) but that might already be too advanced for the scope of this video.
Neat video Teapot!
Brilliant and easy to understand for players who need the info.
Incredible guide! Thanks for posting!
Yeah sending new people to this. Good job Teapot!
Great video! It explains so much aspects that the game unfortunately doesn't. I'm eager for a video exclusively about combo fields and finishers now.
I love learning new things about my favorite game! Also, although this is completely off topic (maybe), your voice is so soothing.
Impressive stuff, keep it up!
I just want to give you a shoutout that this was very well done!
I really wish I had known about this channel wheni just started out.
Thank you
The Almighty TeaGod! Very well done my young friend. The community should be really proud of you. I have no doubts that many of us are. Even if we don't dare to mention it. You are one highly talented and entertaining individual.
very clear presentation, thank you!
This is actually a perfect beginner guide lol. Well done!
Great guide! I'll send new players I meet to this!
You sir, have earned a sub.
I love Guild Wars 2 but I can't bring myself to play it again. Nice guide! Very useful.
I get this myself....I played with my wife and we are currently raising a family. It's honestly hard to play MMOs together with a baby.
We've come to terms that we'll have a wait a couple years
Great guide!
Well written and presented.
very helpful video. Thank you.
6 months in to the game with two level 80s.
My takeaways:
Dodge jump.
Stowing ani cancel of weapon.
About face-ing.
Combo fields.
great vid. subbing here.
insanely helpful guide
I love to see it
nice guide Teacup
Made me want to hop onto GW2 again :D
Awesome. I hope you make a course on how to play Elementalist in the future. That thing is insane.
Fun fact: some jumping puzzles are made harder if you have a max height norn - apparently there is such a thing as too tall.
Very nice guide, very informative for new players. Keep up the good work.
Best Guide Yet
This is really great guide.
Great video and content, a must see for newcomers
Great video man. I gonna put you in my discord for my new guys and tell them to suscribe. Greetings from NvL
whoa. Nice. This should be a good resource.
Im a beast at reading interruptions, my Mesmer is focused on exploiting them to the fullest.
This guide is quite good for new players, but it also holds some tricks for veterans!
Really good narrating !
Fuuuuck! I have an exam in 20 Minutes and im watching this in pure bliss cuz its too goood. Thanks for ur content tpot! DL Gang
Me: Plays for a little over 1 year, already have 1k LI and started commanding full 1-7 clears.
Also me: Watches the whole video
Tbh, u always can learn something new no matter how much experience you have
Awesome! Thanks.
super well done
I audibly giggled at 7:43 because I do the exact same shit sometimes, especially if I somehow get distracted and I get desperate trying to get my bearings straight XD
Thank youuu!
thanks for your service mister teapot :)
I watched this video and now my DPS is more than zero.
Great work, dude! Super useful for newbies, and veterans might get a refresher of a couple of bits too.
Don't lie, you still have negative DPS
@@TehDanScott Dr00d lyfe m8
amazing video
with action cam there is no slowdown on movement speed cause you always walk forwards
instead of strafing or backpadeling your character turns into the direction and moves forward
very good guide for new players
