God. I forgot how good Sonny Fortune is. I haven't heard him in years. Definitely one of the most underrated sax players in jazz. I saw him live in 1972. Freaking great. They all are!
Sonny's playing is irresistible, Everytime he plays he takes you to the spirit world of ancestors, magical fantasy and unchained joy. Bravo to him and to the other great spirits on this session. Sonny, I'l see you when I get there and we can hang out and visit the other cats like we used to when we were confined to world of the tangible.
Who could rock a white jacket and bow tie like Elvin? They’re all great but it’s frightening to think that three of the guys up there changed their instruments for all to follow. Two of them flat revolutionized them (McCoy and Elvin) and Freddie pretty much. I once heard Freddie say in an interview that Elvin was his favorite musician.
It is such a thrill to hear F. Hubbard playing with Elvin (and McCoy, of course)! That's a super change from Hubbard's playing with Tony Williams (and H. Hancock)! Miles and Trane schools! Both great!
No face time for the bass, unfortunately. I didn't see one single shot of him. Very enjoyable video nonetheless. Giants at, or near, the height of their considerable powers. Thanks so much for posting.

Mr. Elvin Jones your music has inspired me for decades
What a lineup. Unbelievably beautiful.
Je n'aurai qu'un seul qualificatif : Fabuleux

Good as it gets! So great to hear Sonny too. What a solo!!
Great band. Love Hubbards playing - all monsters.
Beautiful composition 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
It's a coltrane composition
Mon morceau préféré de Coltrane !
Just, great... such a great find. One of my favorite Trane tunes, too.

Elvin's strenght is everywhere! I am especially happy for having seen him alive, in Rio. He is overpowering!

Elvin Jones GOAT on drums!
admirable et super bien filme ....au plus profond de la sueur le jazz qui brille !!!!!!
...the very last buzz/ hits where his sweat flies in the air, off his snare....wow.
SOLID McCoy
DAMN THESE GIANTS ARE ON FIRE‼️
Thanks for this beautiful video! Old lyons of jazz at their best. Also beautiful close ups of faces.
Excellent! Thanks for posting!!!
Un truc de Fou !!! Très très bon !!!
Hard bop !, du genre il ne mouille pas son maillot, il sue dans son costard.
Good as hell
Real stuff
advanced mathematical theory from Mr. Jones! Freddy was cooking also.
It just hit me; Elvin plays the "wrong" accents, and they suddenly become the best accents imaginable!
Ray-El lives!
@Andres Moreno
and the always-amazing Sonny Fortune on the tenor sax - for him, a tentative solo start but now at 4:00 mins the man is flowing
I'd take 2' mark onward
le Grand Maitre de la Batterie !
you're welcome!
