Only really discovered The War on Drugs in the last few months. Quite possibly one of the greatest bands ever. Can't wait to see them in London in July
This song is a 7 minute cleansing of the soul. Pure heart and emotion. Some of the lushest sounds I've ever heard and a very inspired arrangement to boot.
Hard to believe it’s been six and a half years since this song came into the world. I still remember listening to it for the first time with my brother, as we cut through the desert expanse of New Mexico’s I-10 corridor, headed west toward Los Angeles. It’s been a lullaby on so many sleepless nights, a deep comfort in the early morning hours. A lot has happened since then, but I’m still brought to tears from time to time by the lines “I’m in love, I’m in pain”. This song is a cry of the heart. Easily one of the best ever written. To Adam and every other band member, thank you for creating such a masterpiece.
Every track is gorgeous but this one just made me stop what I was doing, sit back, close my eyes and reduced me to tears for reasons I don't even understand. The memories of some other time came washing over me in a deluge...
Me too. I sobbed almost uncontrollably the first time I heard it, and it still has the power to make me well up. Partly due to the words, but also due to the sheer beauty and majesty of the music touching my soul
Their music is so special. The unusually long running time will leave you speechless and thinking Personal things get lost in the thoughts and a nostalgic feeling envelops you. I feel like I'm on a train or plane on my way home, in silence.
They are all such amazing musicians. They know how to play off each other. It’s quite spectacular, actually. The bass lines really get to me. They fit so perfectly. I would love to be in this band. Great work, you guys.
@@thomasclaus4249 I'm sorry to hear you think this way. Either you simply don't know, or maybe you forgot, but you have definitely made a mistake. Have you ever tried to keep your speed down below 85mph while listening to Run Like Hell??? Let me refresh your mind: ua-cam.com/video/-AC0ucyisd8/v-deo.html Perhaps you forgot about "Learning To Fly" and "Not Now John". I do agree with you that WOD is an awesome band to drive to, I keep two of their CDs in my car. But... If you can listen to that live version of Run Like Hell and not hit 80 miles per hour... you are on the wrong acid. Take care
Nice thought, nice way of assessing The War On Drugs; I've only recently discovered this unique, sublime group of individuals, absolutely heart felt melodies, lyrics; would LOVE to see Live ,down here in NZ.
@@neilcarlson661 Glad you found them! I too would love to see them live, I haven't yet. We have reason to hope, they are working on a new album right now. Should be done in 2021. With a new album comes tour dates. At least that's how they used to do it in the old days. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope they play down there. Cheers
I discovered this band days ago whilst watching BBC coverage of Glastonbury. At first as I flicked through the TV schedule, I thought 'The war on drugs' was a documentary! I watched the whole set and was blown away. They owned the crowd, with me too. I cannot believe I'd never hears of them before.
Me and my wife were exactly the same. We’d heard of The War on Drugs but never really heard one on their songs and then were just blown away by their Glastonbury performance and ever since have been obsessed by their last 2 albums. Truly magical and beautiful songs
The droning end of this song reminds me heavily of the similar ending to "Brilliant Disguise" by Bruce Springsteen. Timeless ... this might be my absolute favorite album of all time, EASILY for the last 10 years. I've been coming back to these comment sections since 2017 and I don't plan to stop. I love you all.
Best album of the year. War on Drugs are by far the best band today. You can compare them to many other artists and bands but they are The War on Drugs. I start my long day ever day listening to these guys and I know my day is going to be ok.
Peerdskerkhofruler I’m glad others understand this magic. It’s real, and invaluable to those like me who experience high stress/anxiety (words that get thrown around all of the time, but I have a dx or two, or three). It works for me. It makes me want to dig deeper and I am drawn look down on the right track. I am thankful to be alive and have reached this kind of positive trigger through a music. Bless Adam.
the fact that this is not a number one song on radio is scary. I can't believe someone can put out something so wonderful in every way, and get no radio appreciation. If he doesn't win the grammy 1/28, I"LL BE PISSED
Now this.....when I first heard the low rumbling sax at the beginning, I was finished, by the end I was a puddle within a puddle of my own doing. Majestic.
I think of it more that with moments like this, God offers a glimpse into the vastness of the universe we can't comprehend or fully understand, just sample for a short moment in time (or 7:21min in time)
A massive thank you to the UA-cam algorithm for putting The War on Drugs into my autoplay. I don't know why it put "Thinking of a Place" in there you kind of music is not what I would normally listen to... but I can honestly say I have been missing out for the past 28 years! This song is brilliant! I have been listening to, A Deeper Understanding on repeat for a week now and I cannot get enough it. This album is next level stuff and I am utterly A Deeper Understanding. Keep up the great work.
Genius. I think this has to probably be one of the most beautiful, deep, and yet most beautifully complex songs I’ve ever heard. Must have taken forever to produce, and must have been excruciating to create, but one a hell of a ride.
Taco Veldstra and yet songs that terrorist over and over and over get (ironically enough) overplayed on the radio every day. I feel it comin',I feel it comin',I feel it comin',I feel it comin',. ( I counted it offer 50 damn times!) War on Drugs should be played more!
They capture and embody the spirit and sounds of the '80's more than any band I've heard in awhile. Being 49 and a teenager during the '80's I am loving this band. Thanks to KROQ in L.A. I heard "Pain" which caught my ear immediately. I haven't heard a bad song yet from The War On Drugs.
This song would have slotted so neatly onto Springsteen's 'Tunnel of Love'. And that's not a criticism by any means. Possibly the best band of our generation. After 'Lost In The Dream' I didn't expect anything close to it, such was its power, however, they've matched it, and arguably bettered it. Blown away.
Hands down this song makes me cry. Just remeber the better times during my teens im 20 now but i heard this song when i was doing something that made me happy and makes me cry remebering those happy times wishing i could go back. This is a masterpiece

Absolutely a definitive testament of a soulful vibe. It brings my thoughts and struggles to a close. Great tune and a great band. Play hard and play often.....
I just love, love, love this song! Their absolute best, they are stunning live too! This is my break-up anthem, my go-to reflection of the loss of heartbreaking friendship…#”Still I want to celebrate …the girl with silence in her eyes, the truth was certainly in the dark…”
Only really discovered The War on Drugs in the last few months. Quite possibly one of the greatest bands ever. Can't wait to see them in London in July
Look through their songs/ albums especially live
This band is so under-recognized it’s ridiculous. How music like this doesn’t top the charts like the pop-garbage that does is beyond me.
I found out about this band from Showtime's Shameless
just discovered them today because of Luke Hemmings, who is also very under recognized. I love this song a lot
This is the band I've been waiting for for 20 years
the best of the 1980's grew up
Jared Louw Congrats. You’re going to be the best man at my wedding.

Best contemporary rock band currently operating IMO
@@chansomanmusic Yeah, it is.
This is the pinnacle song of the album. It is a whole other level of extraordinary.
I've just listened to all the previous songs and all of them have a similar comment. Awesome band!
I liked thinking of a place better though
No you're right this is the Pinnacle
Especially 6:04. That piano part is just... marvelous. Feels like a breath of pure oxygen.
I've always thought the same for some reason that I can't quite figure out!
probably the best album of the last 10 + years
Probably the band since the 80s ended. Easily the best of this millennium.
Lost in the Dream by The War on Drugs I think is better both classics 🎵
This song is a 7 minute cleansing of the soul. Pure heart and emotion. Some of the lushest sounds I've ever heard and a very inspired arrangement to boot.

The crescendo at 2:41 mark and that little sequence shakes me to the core
Bless your soul, Jon Berry.
