I agree. This guy is a great interviewer and host. Very professional and composed, asking great questions and leading the conversation well in a casual manner. Great interview.
Really appreciate plini, he's so down to earth and honest. I really like that his writing isnt just to be super difficult, or technically profiecient, but more focused on the actual musical aspect, so many people get so hung up on trying to get people to praise them for how difficult their stuff sounds. Plini understands that it's about whether or not the music does something for you other than representing the next challenging piece that other players cant play.
First time I've seen an interview with questions that actually makes sense... These interviews has been stellar lately Sweetwater... Good work guys 🙏✌️😊
A year or two back I had missed out on plini tickets but still went to his guitar clinic (free btw) anyway long story short he ended up put me on his guest list plus 1 so I could go to the show. I’ll forever be grateful!!!!
To me, Plini redefined the meaning of the old saying that "the guitar sings". Because Plini sings non-verbally and yet lyrically with his phrasing, choices regarding harmonies and how he weaves it all together with the rhythms and shifting subtly shifting tempos. He also sticks to his tone, and got me into jazz. Many have tried before, many, many times, to get me into jazz - but Plini taught me what to listen for - and not just for jazz, but a a whole new world of music. I owe him so much for it. Thank, Plini. For everything.
Mitch Gallagher, master interviewer! Some interviwees are fun, others less so, but Mitch always works hard to get the most of them. Thanks and congrats!!
Mitch, your approach on this interview was spot on. From gear, to playing style and practice, to recording and writing technique, touring, and alllll of the details in between. Great job, man. Thank you for such a great interview.
Yeah, I always loved the Plini model, but now that I know it doesn't have a tone knob, it's less interesting. But I'd buy a Sälen Deluxe VB anyways, if ever I'd buy a Strandberg, which I'd love!
You know some people don't like it when really good guitar players don't really have too much explanation of how they were brought up in guitar or how they play guitar, but I find it awesome when people do that because it just to let you know they are regular people just like you and me. Plenty is definitely one of the examples of this and the fact that he brings up that how you can hear his parents washing dishes in the background if it's old stuff is just pure golden to me.
Plini is definitely someone every modern guitarist could learn something from. Just an all around awesome musician with already a great library of songs and hopefully more to come. Great interview!
As fast as I’ve ever clicked on a video... Edit: And now that I watched it, great interview. Hit on so many of the things I like about Plini in regards to musicality over flash, over technique, but having good technique to make better music. Well done. Only downside is it could’ve been like ten times longer! Haha
I like his breakdown of young talent these days - ripping/shredding yet space is a challenge. Much like golf - most want to hit the distance and spend most time practicing that and forget to spend same amount of time on the putting green :)
I bought a strandberg boden 7 with tremolo and it is great... I did have to mess around with the bridge/saddles for intonation... but it sounds great... and the fretboard feels like a surface, if you get my meaning... like you are playing a classical instrument. Why doesn't Plini just say "Simon"? ...he says "my bass player".... was there a bet in there somewhere? Simon plays strandberg too!
That exactly describes how he looks indeed, but to me personally it has a nice flair to it. :) Also, one of his songs is called flâneur haha. Real French chillness :p
I love this interview. I "play" and LOVE this Strandberg Plini and I Love his persona and music. The mutated neck profile just helps so much with my F*** up wrist......jest sayin"
Even the Traveler guitars with no headstock are nice & easy to play immediately. It's actually really nice when moving around not to have the bulky headstock in the way & that narrow point where a neck will break most easily disappears right at the place where the neck would break. You'll never be concerned about a headstock again. Also for manufacturers it's easier to have a single piece of wood through the body because you're not having to fashion a headstock out of the wood length. Also tuning the strings in the body is an easier place to design motorized tuning devices or other advanced tuning equipment that people would care to design. I think the migration to headstockless guitars will increase to the point where the ancient low-tech headstock will eventually go away - unless someone finds that it affects tone - something nobody has yet claimed - but probably will as this approach changes.
Hi, R. Scott. It's not impossible to do that with this. In the first few frets, the neck is designed to allow the thumb to be at the top of the neck for chords. As you go up the neck the shape changes to move your hand to the most ergonomic position for comfortable playing. Thanks for your interest! Seriously Sweetwater you’re killing it with your interview lately

Yes, really great to hear an interested, involved and knowledgeable interviewer.
Really appreciate plini, he's so down to earth and honest.

A year or two back I had missed out on plini tickets but still went to his guitar clinic (free btw) anyway long story short he ended up put me on his guest list plus 1 so I could go to the show. I’ll forever be grateful!!!!
That's awesome! He seems like such a nice and humble guy despite the fact that he's such a phenomenal musician

Mitch, your approach on this interview was spot on. From gear, to playing style and practice, to recording and writing technique, touring, and alllll of the details in between. Great job, man. Thank you for such a great interview.

I must say Mitch is a fantastic interviewer!
Plini inspired me to get my Strandberg prog last year (didnot go for his signature cause I wanted my tone knob). That guitar is a Gem.
does it have ebony fretboard?
Yeah, I always loved the Plini model, but now that I know it doesn't have a tone knob, it's less interesting. But I'd buy a Sälen Deluxe VB anyways, if ever I'd buy a Strandberg, which I'd love!

Plini = Magnificent !!!
I've been waiting something like this for too long!!
*Plinterview
Most soothing accent in the history of English accents ever! I've heard Scottish and New-Zealandish, but this is the most soothing imo :p
Mitch Gallagher is a straight BOSS
I think the parents washing dishes and birds chirping could only add to the artistry as zen moments
I love this interview so much
Mitch, you do a killer job!
👍
Very good interview with very interesting questions!
Great interview! Love this man, he's so humble!

Simon plays strandberg too!
Thank you Sweetwater! Definitely a very inspirational guitarist:)
👍🎸
Plini is a genius!
But why does he look like a french sailor?
That exactly describes how he looks indeed, but to me personally it has a nice flair to it. :)
Also, one of his songs is called flâneur haha. Real French chillness :p
Very nice interview.
🙌
Subtle jokes. The sublime art of giving an interview by Plini.
Wow, great questions. Interesting interview.
I love this interview. I "play" and LOVE this Strandberg Plini and

Plini awesome
Guthrie Govan + Plini = future of guitar
They obviously dragged him out of a bed 5 minutes before the interview and he looks like he's about to doze off after every word lol.
that australian jet lag must be rough
he's relaxed
He's always like that
Does the neck profile make playing hard for folks that like to wrap the thumb over the neck?

Even tho I never play with my thumb over the neck of the guitar, that was seriously a really good question.
The neck is slim and its possible to do that but only for the 6 stringed models as the 7s are a bit wide for that thumb to crop up
