Virgil Hill was a very very good boxer . I think he didn’t get that much credit and got overlooked. because he came out of that loaded 84 Olympic class and fighting in light heavyweight and Cruiseweight division which really doesn’t get noticed at all. I believe he deserves more credit because in his prime , he was hard to beat.
I was at that fight quite by accident. I was at the Casino walking around, walked into the ring room, sat down in the second row and 1 minute later they rang the bell. After the fight I ran into VIrgil "Quick Silver" Hill and he spent 1/2 hour talking to me. Great guy. Told me all about being adopted and growing up in ND. I would love to talk to him some 34 years later.
Mr Futch all class as usual consoling Leslie during post fight interview. He and Freddie Roach were a solid team. Excellent fight, Leslie had nothing to be ashamed of losing to a younger, hungrier lt heavy.
Great counter left hook, my gosh. Lalonde finished Stewart, but that was with brute power. Hill considered the weakest Olympian, but went on to be one of the most successful.
24:00. Leslie Stewart said that he would file a complaint against the referee for stopping the fight at the count of five when he was already up and told the ref he was okay. He should watch the replay. It's amazing how a punch to the head can create false memories.
I don't understand why ABC depended on Chris Schenkel so much to do boxing in the 70s and early 80s. I know Cosell couldn't do every fight and Keith Jackson was doing college football for most of the year (he was fantastic at whatever he did...check out his call of the Mike Weaver-John Tate fight...it's terrific) but CS got too many boxing assignments. He's very limited, missing punches, stumbling and fumbling words and making strange comments. He did do boxing calls in the 1950s for TV and I haven't seen any of them so...perhaps he was good once. Here, he's a mess especially with Alex Wallu sitting next to him. Alex never missed a significant punch. He was always right on top of what was happening in the ring.
Cosell knew almost nothing about boxing. Missed half of the significant punches. When a guy got hurt he never knew which punch did the damage. In Cosell's defense, he had a very entertaining style and presentation.

Hah, crazy story. That would never happen these days.
I grew up in ND during the late 80s and 90s. Virgil Hill was a hero to many.
@B45 Yes "ND" means North Dakota.
Finally an answer. So what is he half black and half Native American?

I remember when he manhandled Tiozzo even Ring Magazine was like:-O
@B45 Yup, Ring Magazine said "Now we've seen everything"

He was wasted like a drunk that needed to be stopped the way he passed out on the mat twice
Virgil Hill=AMAZING TALENT! Great victory by Hill! Team Quicksilver!
A good, timely stoppage. Stewart was finished.
Keeping his right hand low was an invitation for that left hook,it was just a matter for Leslie to get that shot.

I was always a big fan of Virgil. A class act. Awkward style but effective. I think his only loss was the Roy Jones Jr.
His first loss was to Thomas Hearns, then Roy Jones. But he lost a few afterward as well.
@@mandarkastronomonov2962 I just looked up his record. You're right...50 wins with 7 losses. I even forgot that he fought Hearns.
@@brianchampion3337 Father Time is undefeated.
Virgil es impresionante
Great video 👍
0:36 Freddie Roach
Hill was just a normal, humble down to earth, matter of fact guy. No one interviews like that anymore. Not even the humble guys.
Who's the chick with the mullet that is hugging him right after the fight?
