  • As part of celebrating its 60th anniversary, Meredith Corporation’s WFSB --Channel 3, the CBS affiliate in the Hartford - New Haven television market-- made this extended blooper reel available on its website in September 2017. Drawn from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s when Channel 3 was owned and operated by the Travelers Insurance Company (1957 to 1974) and Post-Newsweek Stations (1974 to 1997), some of the scenes include…
    • Walter Cronkite forgetting the December 16, 1970 date of his “CBS Evening News” broadcast after delivering his signature closing phrase, “that’s the way it is” (when Channel 3 was WTIC-TV)
    • Doug Webster flinching when a studio light burns-out (also when Channel 3 was WTIC-TV)
    • “Channel 3 Late Report” (11:00 p.m.) anchor Bill Hanson seemingly disappearing on June 15, 1971 while listing renovations that have been requested for the governor’s mansion by Edward J. Kozlowski, the Public Works Commissioner, for security purposes (also when Channel 3 was WTIC-TV)
    • A videotaped report from Chris Gordon running at the wrong speed (He has been a general assignment reporter at WRC-TV, Channel 4 in Washington, D.C., since 1998.)
    • A host of problems plaguing Bob Steele’s April 9, 1965 “Close-up on Sports” broadcast while he reports on the second round of the 29th Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia (also when Channel 3 was WTIC-TV)
    • Floyd Richards flubbing a commercial for Hostess fruit pies, standing in front of the Joyville Post Office as host of “The Hap Richards Show” (also when Channel 3 was WTIC-TV)
    • NFL scores superimposed on a November 30, 1975 story on traffic deaths over the Thanksgiving weekend and a related crackdown on speeding during a newscast anchored by Marc Howard (Altogether from 1977 to 2003, he would anchor local newscasts on Philadelphia stations WPVI-TV, Channel 6, and KYW-TV, Channel 3. He was identified by UA-cam user swami7774.)
    • Al Terzi narrating an upside-down film of field games in Old Saybrook, Connecticut playing in reverse
    • “PM Magazine” host Mike Randall being interrupted by a passing Connecticut Transit bus circa 1982 (He has been a meteorologist at WKBW-TV, Channel 7 in Buffalo, New York, since 1983.)
    • “Fairweather Charlie” Bagley unable to stop laughing during a weather report
    • Jim Vicevich unintentionally repeating himself while concluding a newscast (He is seated with sportscaster Bill Patrick and meteorologist Bruce DePrest.)
    • Gayle King’s malaprop “we’ll all be black next week” (She is also seated with Bill Patrick.)
Bob Steele mentions the 1964 Insurance City Open (which was renamed as the "Greater Hartford Open” in 1967 and the current “Travelers Championship” in 2007) which was played at the Wethersfield Country Club where it was founded in 1952. (It moved to the TPC at River Highlands in Cromwell in 1984.) He refers to legendary PGA golfers Jack Nicklaus, Tony Lema, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, and Billy Casper. Casper can be heard describing the exotic diet that he and his wife recently adopted --including reindeer, buffalo, wild game, turtle, hippopotamus, and elephant-- to lower his weight and combat allergies.
[REQUEST: If you can identify any of the other people, please provide their names and the context of their appearances in a posted comment.]

Thanks so much for identifying Marc Howard! I've updated the description to include his name. I'd like to credit you for recognizing him. May I include your "swami7774" UA-cam handle in the description?

I’m pretty sure the disappearing anchor at :18 is (was) Bill Harrigan from WHNB(now ‘VIT) Ch 30.
