Dang!! I hooked on a little bigger than that on my MF 6’6” spinning rod with a 5/0 weighted Ice White Super Fluke. Every time I tried to pull him towards me he just pulled drag. But no fight cause I had no power over him! I finally got him within 10’ of the bank and he finally saw me, rolled, spat the hook, and vamoosed! Gar are my favorite fish! They are like the CatDogs of the water. So dumb, so cool, so STRONG! I now know that I didn’t have a rod with nearly enough backbone to have a chance with that beast. That is one heckuva rod and one awesome catch! Thanks for sharing. #TEXASSTRONG #TIGHTLINES
Alligator Garfish. Size comparison is close but your fish Brazil does not have the vicious mouthful of teeth like this animal does. Both are beautiful and useful.
U need to be careful with those honkers I have had them ram my aluminum boat and put a hole in it and that wasn’t even a huge one so much fun the catch 👍
Whats weird is up north I see longnose/spotted gar all the time but getting them to bite is another thing completely as they never show any interest towards any lures I throw. So is cut bait the only real way to catch them?
Just so you guys know that don’t know the reason people usually catch monsters in tiny creeks is cause the current there in the creek is usually calm or not going to fast with a bunch of logs and rocks for hides they usually like to sit in these spots waiting for baitfish to come by and ambush them along with being protected from the current with a nice rest they usually hate staying in the current of the river and when it floods the flat heads especially start traveling the tiny creeks since they will be able to go up them in search of food when it floods makes for easier travel and they like it when it’s muddy so they won’t be seen when swallowing there prey whole usually gets muddy after a rain

Not false, some of these are up to almost 3 meters long and hundreds of pounds(80+ kilos)
