OMG! What a treat. Me and my brothers and cousins spent our childhoods (1970’s) here with family and friends. We lived in University Park. It’s truly amazing back then as kids. The Hillsborough is a great canoe/kayak river from Lettuce Lake up to HRSP and/or Flint Creek. Very Florida! Thanks for this wonderful memory. Many a summer day at the pool.

thanks so much, i lived in tampa for 41 years, i live in north louisiana for now but hope to return home one day..my brothers and i canoed the river, swam in the pool..p.s. there is a fort east of hwy 301 a replica from the seminole wars. great family fun, i also was able to take my children as they grew up, again thanks so very much
Awesome! Try going over the suspension bridge and walk the trails on that side of the river, really nice and somehow we didn't do that the first visit lol!
Native Central Floridian here, who's frequented the park many times. Yes, theres other visible wildlife at the park and surrounding wilderness woodlands. ... Red tailed hawks, owls and numerous other birds and waterbirds, deer, armadillos, raccoons, bobcat, foxes, gators, to name a few.
I say you stay with the Springs as the cold water keeps gators away! Rainbow Springs has tent area and great kayaking! We have a video for Rainbow Springs you can check out!!
I have camped there as a kid and about 8 years ago I lived about 15 minutes from there just off 301 near Dade City. The pool is really the only highlight of the park in my opinion. Every 6 to 8 weeks I am reserving a campsite in a state park as the wait times to get in is rediculous. Soon after I get my access pass for national parks, that will for sure expand locations for nice outdoor fun.
Ha Ha the pool is the least of my interests when I spend all day hiking at HRSP ,the Seminole trail ,dead river road ,dead river trail ,wetlands lands trail ,so much to explore there .But a pool ?? You must be kidding 🤣
@@martina54492 ... I just went on a weeks stay there last month in my RV and unfortunatly the pool is closed during the viruses. They are not even renting canoes but I take my own anyhow. The campground itself has a nice canoe launch just for the campers and yes the pool is HUGE and nice. Well maintained overall. They still let people use canoes there now but they don't rent them. Frankly, the prices to rent one is rediculous anyhow coming out to $40 dollars (with tax) for 2 hours for two people. I picked up a nice canoe from a rental company in mint shape 17 foot, brand new life jackets with new paddles for $125 and 5 people was on last months trip using the canoe daily for around 5 hours daily total so to me, it paid itself off in one trip. I live on a private lake also so it is nice to keep here for the kids in the family anyhow and it is on a private dock in my back yard so always in the water. Just a thought incase you want to save money. Use one for a couple trips and get your money back out of it. But yes, the pool when it is open, it is actually one of the nicest pools you can go too. The bathrooms and showers are really nice and you can have two or three tents and camper or RV all there, tons of space. But bring your own firewood if you can. It is expensive there and they don't let you collect from the woods.
With discounts either a armed service vet and or legally disabled. This location is $12 a night, with electric & water or $84 a week for a 7 night / 8 day stay.
That water looks so murky and dirty. After getting spoiled with springs, that water looks very uninviting. But the land parts of the park look really nice. And that pool was pretty cool.
Florida rivers are dark due to a certain element in the trees that run off. The water is clean. Even the few remaining white sand bottom rivers like Blackwater River in Milton, FL... Looks black and dark. It's still clean and beautiful.

My wife and I liked that park, except for the rigid, authoritarian manner in which the park was run by its administrator and rangers. If I had to guess, I would assume that the park manager is a former police officer of some sort. I'm all for the reasonable application of rules, but this park was run to the point of unfriendliness. Most of the rangers we spoke to were, frankly, belligerent jerks. Beautiful park, though.

Other than the broken record MUSIC that kept on repeating. I felt you needed to be way more informative about the park. Like showing a map of the park, campsites and number of hookups and type of hook ups 30-AMP/50-AMP or NO Hookups. How long are the hiking trails? When was the bridge Built. Who visits the park. You did give the fee of the pool, but you left out so much. Doing some homework on the history and what it has to offer would have done better service. Thanks that's 8-mins I'll never get back of my life.

Had no idea there were rapids in Florida! Looks like a beautiful “real Florida” State Park. Can’t wait to try this out when we’re back in FL.
Good kayaking and Gator watching too :)

Born and raised in FL. This brings back so many fond memories of family outings at the Park during the 1960's
Glad you enjoyed it, TY for watching!
We live in Tampa, and go there all the time. We love the park, we camp there for days at a time or go for just the day.

Very, beautiful, State Park. Makes me proud I'm from Florida!!! Also can you set up tents in this Park?
I believe any state park sites can be used for tents, and Hillsborough has a lot of sites!! TY for your feedback!
stayed at that exact campsite last year..heading back to this campground next month

@@CampTravelExplore I have, but I now camp with my dog, so I stay away from that side and walk some of the trails at the campground

I have only seen gators there on my two trips!!

It is a beautiful place!
Where in Florida can you tent camp and kayak without alligators
I say you stay with the Springs as the cold water keeps gators away! Rainbow Springs has tent area and great kayaking! We have a video for Rainbow Springs you can check out!!

The discolorization is caused by tannins. Similar to the change in the color of water when you steep a tea bag in it.
The water does not look dirty ,its beautiful at HRSP .And who needs a pool in this Nature Haven ?? Go explore the trails !
This river is full of gators. Do not swim in it.
scenery ,God's other book
Amen to that!!
