A very thorough review of a very versatile module from the mind of Paul Schreiber. A somewhat different oscillititilator concept to the MOTM 300. Super, smashing, great.
Yeah like the ALM Pamela's NEW Workout video there's a lot to cover so unless I comprise quality and skim over features it's gotta be long! It's all time indexed/linked in the description for ease of skipping around though.
Fab sounds ... the morphing cloud modulation wow .. and then the FM mod wavetables .. and even the highly sort after PWMNB .. amazing .. Thanks for sharing this :-)
Great demo as expected from you Ben! :-) To be honest I only watched the first 6 minutes and then skipped around since I'm pretty familiar with the module. (w00t for my name in the credits at 43:16 ;-)
No worries, happy for people to skip around, trying to encourage that with the long video and timing links. I smiled when I saw your name in the credits too.
I watched for my name in the credits too, heh :D I watched the whole thing just to be amazed again at how freaking good it sounds and to see Ben's take on it.
Sweet Jesus, this thing is monstrous! I was originally look at Akemis's Castle and Shapeshifter, but this looks like it could cover most of the avenues there.
it coincides with UK schools/colleges going back to the new academic year which is directly tied into my jobs teaching instruments and now lecturing in music at a college. So really hard to get time off. Also costs a fair whack!
Another classic DivKid video! Man the whole thing sounds great but that Morphing FM is insane. Also Morphing Clouds is crazy. Can't remember if you discussed it but what are the differences between E352 and E370 again? The noise mode is e352 only right? And two outputs for one VCO vs one output per on e370. Can't remember the other differences. I've got an e370 on the way but I'm almost considering getting an E352 for a separate mono/travel case. So sick!
a) all the E352 modes are available in the E370 b) the E370 has 2 CVs per voice, the E352 has 3. c) there are additional features in the E370 that are not in the E352, such as Chording and TZFM.
SynthTech tutorials thank you for confirming this. It would be great to have a full list of the features that differ between the 352 and the 370. Amazing modules!
I wonder how this will measure against the 4ms Spherical Wavetable? I'm gonna have to have one or the other. This thing just sounds wonderful. Wavetable at its best. Great video. Thanks for doing this work.
nice one thank you for commenting, appreciate it! Well the 4ms is 6 voices with different on board modulation but it does loose things this can do ... different things really. Hard choice!
What a clean design! I was leaning towards a Shapeshifter, but given the SD card capability and how clean the design of this is, I'm kinda leaning towards one of these instead-- exact same rack size, this one's a little cheaper but not enough to make the deal-- but the feature set and design simplicity of this one is pretty compelling. And thanks Ben! I was looking for vids on the Waldorf NW1 when I found this, frustrated by the fact that all the tutorials & demos I could find for that were just knob twiddling with no discussion of what they were doing. It makes me nuts when nimrods take the time to make a video but clam up through the whole thing and expect us to get what they're doing while listening to the random bleeps and bloops they're generating with no dialog at all. I can count on you to cover the subject well...
Nice one thank you, appreciate that. If I had a NW1 I'd make some content but I don't. I don't fancy one to be honest, think I'm just covered with other modules.
Yeah, I'm sure it's not possible to cover every last module. My thinking was though, that Waldorf has been doing wave table for a long time and given that is an area I'm looking to expand into, I should find out what they might have going for them. The NW1 seems to have some kind of "record" ability on the fly, which would be interesting but as I said, I've yet to find a video that is worth watching at all on the module, much less one that helps explain what the thing can actually do. Between the Cloud Terrarium and Shapeshifter it's going to be a tough choice, both look like really good modules-- the independence of the oscillators in the Shapeshifter is a big plus. I've got a few weeks to decide while I await sufficient funding for one of them. Eventually I may just have to get both if I can muster the rack space. And the Cursus Iteritas seems to be an interesting option as well...
Well, after I solve the wave table problem, my next focus is going to be on percussion-- currently favoring Plonk or Basimilus iteritas Alter, or both...
WHAT a company! My E350 gave up the ghost (knackered) and I can send it back and trade it in against this most amazing machine. The E352 offers so many amazing functions/sounds and coupled with my Morpheus filter well, WOW lots of fun to be had as soon as I get this old E350 off in the post.
I’m sure I won’t be the first to ask, but what do you think of the E352 vs something like the Intellijel Shapeshifter? There’s differences of course, but I’m loving your E352 demo and it is giving me pause on the Shapeshifter.
I think the Shapeshifter is the more complex voice of the two. Chords, wave folder, more modulation points etc. But possibly a more complex to use, which can only be expected with more options. The Synth Tech wavetables are gorgeous smooth morphing. I don't have them both here to compare but I'd say just go with whichever tones speak to you the most.
Thank you for this! What is the UK price for the E352? The Synth Tech shop says $469 whilst certain UK sites are listing it has £640... seems a pretty wild conversion rate!
The dealers set their own prices (for the silver panel version). If you want a black panel one, they are $509 shipped to the UK/EU. See www.synthtech.com/shop
Hi Diana, no idea for UK price $469 to £640 is one hell of a leap! I wonder if they just set that as a place holder while waiting for stock or something. I haven't seen it in any UK shops yet.
Thank you Ben and MOTMguy (Paul.) for your replies. I was going by the price at Juno and Schneiders, I really hope that it is just a placeholder, really looking forward to getting this... and thanks again for the in-depth video
Hey DivKid, I'm looking to buy a wavetable VCO. I'm comparing this to Graphic VCO by Erica Synth. Which do you think is more of an all rounder? I like the FX section on the Graphic VCO and the morph + FX at the same time seems to be a super neat feature. Is it fair to compare the two? What's your take? Thanks for your time! :)
very hard one to compare. I'd just try to make what you can of the interfaces from the demos. Both are screen/encoder based for set up. Both have a lot of potential modulation etc. Which speaks to you most in terms of the raw tones of them that you can hear from various demos online?
DivKidVideo thx for the reply! I think I keep liking the Graphic VCO demos better. My gut tell me to go with it. I havent gotten a module in about a year so I want to make it count haha
I can appreciate that. Also the HP difference is something to consider. Though the new modules like morph + fold in this make it well worth it for me as it explores further sonic territories too.
I guess he's using an external mixer so maybe there is some difference in the levels? Also that would explain the soft clipping when the two triangles are phase aligned and should just be making a triangle that is twice as large.
Hi Robert and yeast :) Yeah this was externally mixed. The patch was taking both outputs into the WMD performance mixer in two channels then I took the Aux out taking a feed from both to mix them together and then record that. So it was just a level mis-match from the mixer. I set both Auxes the same but looking back the input gain was slightly different on both. Well spotted! :)
man this is dope, if only it was cheaper! someone could make something exactly like this but with a smaller screen and less expensive knobs. I do also think there are various limitations or downsides. one if the choice of wavetables might seem expansive, but there mostly based off of classic waves, additive harmonic as well as geometric shapes, which sound very digital and clean. Also the morphing capcabilities are limited so certain sets of waves which is tragic. The FM is super interesting/ useful though.
you can import your own wavetables so you can use pretty much any wav file as a wavetable (I've imported all of serums wavetables to mine, I also have a full bank of access virus tables loaded into my e352 :)
no massive upgrade from normal thumbscrews they are Befaco Knurlies. Not as cheap as normal screws but they take screwdriver, allen key, thumb/finger really good.
DivKidVideo the day I acquire this module I'll rock the cat eye candy for a week just because Paul kicks ass at synthesis technology (see what I did there?)
I might have let me take a look ... it's this one - ua-cam.com/video/HC7gBh-_EDk/v-deo.html which isn't public but easiest to share with you here. Reminds me I need to make it clearer and create an index for ease of use with the Patreon stuff.
2021 and still the definitive manual for the E352... and to some greater extent the E370!
It's all that any new potential users need.
A full course on the E352. I've watched it twice, and will probably refer to it many times. Thanks for the demo.
Cheers Ron, it's a great module.
This is so intense!!! I love how you are pushing it, and can only imagine the vast amount of untapped sounds waiting to be discovered!
Best. Modular. Demo. Video. Ever.
oh wow, from you that's ace! Thank you. Really enjoy your videos too, the noisy lo fi work recently has been great with your vacation set up.
DivKidVideo thank you! Next will be quadrophonic modular, got some nice footage from my performance at Bauhaus.
sounds great I'll be looking forward to it.
Two titans in the game in dialogue 😋
A very thorough review of a very versatile module from the mind of Paul Schreiber. A somewhat different oscillititilator concept to the MOTM 300. Super, smashing, great.
nice one Ghost.
Damn near made a full length film. You're crazy for this one!
Yeah like the ALM Pamela's NEW Workout video there's a lot to cover so unless I comprise quality and skim over features it's gotta be long! It's all time indexed/linked in the description for ease of skipping around though.
grab doods software too.
its really really really good :]
the most expansive wave-table editing and creation ive ever seen
44 minutes! this calls for a heavy Belgian IPA. thanks for putting this together ben, you're a superhero!
get a few :)
im on my third pint now... what was this video about again? :D lol, great demo, love it!
This looks and sounds fantastic! Yet another module that you've convinced me of needing! Excellent review as always. Thanks so very much.
haha nice one! You won't regret grabbing this one.
@17:56 love this fm bass, both the patch and the bassline
thank you
Fab sounds ... the morphing cloud modulation wow .. and then the FM mod wavetables .. and even the highly sort after PWMNB .. amazing .. Thanks for sharing this :-)
cheers SJ
Awesome video! Seems like a must have module.
I'd say so! :) I'm sure Paul at Synth Tech would agree haha.
ROAR! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!
That FM is even sicker than I thought it would be. This thing is a monster! The ultimate dual VCO.
absolutely, cheers.
Great demo as expected from you Ben! :-) To be honest I only watched the first 6 minutes and then skipped around since I'm pretty familiar with the module. (w00t for my name in the credits at 43:16 ;-)

Nicely done. Your videos have been getting better and better!
good to hear thank you.
Hey Robin!
I take it you know musicartgeek?
Sweet video! Gorgeous VCO!! Thanks for posting!!!
cheers
Awesome sounds and great demo as always. I think you just made Synthesis Technology a great deal of money.
let's hope so, keeps me in Paul's good books
Definitely bought after watching the video...
this sounds insane with a subwoofer!!
Sweet Jesus, this thing is monstrous!
I was originally look at Akemis's Castle and Shapeshifter, but this looks like it could cover most of the avenues there.
Yeah tonally they all seem to sit differently so try to watch as much content as you can and figure out what works best for you.
Can't wait to see this thing at Knobcon next week!
is that only a week away now? Wow that's come round fast, I was gonna get a load of stickers made up to send out but won't have time.
DivKidVideo Yeah, starts in just four days. Scrambling to get a lot of work done so I'll be relatively free while I'm there.
good look getting everything ready. I'll make it over one day.
Yes, you must!
it coincides with UK schools/colleges going back to the new academic year which is directly tied into my jobs teaching instruments and now lecturing in music at a college. So really hard to get time off. Also costs a fair whack!
Fantastic video for a fantastic module.
Thanks Martin.
Havin a hard time following this video..i watch like 2 mins then end up spending 2 hours messing with the e352 instead haha! such an amazing module!
haha that happens to me every time i watch a tutorial/review vid.....too much fun
2024 and i need this
Hope you can find one.
@@DivKid just purchased one off reverb! 🙌
Sounds super-sick.
Really hope the silver one will be sub £500.
Great video. Thanks
I debated black or silver when Paul asked which do I want and in the end I let my girlfriend pick.
DivKidVideo Ha ha, that's definitely the mark of a man with too many modules. Still, she chose well at least. :)
He’s a fine man this bloke
Very informative video, thanks!
thanks
@11:20 chaos BW is the frequency of modulation (bandwidth, aka wavelength, being the inverse of frequency)
yep

Is that you Paul? I feel like I have asked this same dumb question multiple times on FB. Must be drain bramaged. Thanks for the info!
I think that is Paul or at least an "official" page.
SynthTech tutorials thank you for confirming this. It would be great to have a full list of the features that differ between the 352 and the 370. Amazing modules!
Ouch! That sounds nice. great vid
cheers mate

I luv my E352 w/ WaveEdit
I'm salivating over this thing.... wish i could find somebody in the UK with it in stock.
have you asked a few of the shops when / if they're coming intstock?
Never thought of that tbh 😂
worth asking them, I know customer requests definitely affect what they order in.
What a clean design! both is always the answer! haha
Wow this sounds great! I just wonder if there wasn't enough room inside to add the Speak n' Spell ;P
Not sure about room but I imagine he wanted to keep the E950 relevant as it's own product too.
what a stunner!
catch my reflection in that Ornament and Crime? ;)
... the module is a stunner.
lol! :D
Better than the pube on one of your Sputnik videos that my GF picked up on :D :D
The sound at 15:06 damn !!
Why why why did I hit play on this video... GAS is now tearing me apart... ;-)

yeah really nice!
At 14:44 you say there is another vid of you jaming with this ting mon. But I dont see it?

What's the duifference between the FM wave and the Mod wave in the 2-op FM mode?
So is the "Reset Live" on the Patches page like a factory reset function?
How to get E352Morph xy+z Mode in E370? There is only two parameter (x and z) and not stereo like e352.
20:33 is that the infamous batman-carrier waveform? :)
haha very much so!

I can appreciate that. Also the HP difference is something to consider. Though the new modules like morph + fold in this make it well worth it for me as it explores further sonic territories too.
OMG 🤯... what... i mean ... WHAT?!
great! - bought :-)
Nice one! :)
30:22 I don't understand why there isn't complete phase cancellation.

Thanks for the great E352 Overview. Did you mention you had a E352 patching video on Patreon? Couldn't find it.
I might have let me take a look ... it's this one - ua-cam.com/video/HC7gBh-_EDk/v-deo.html which isn't public but easiest to share with you here. Reminds me I need to make it clearer and create an index for ease of use with the Patreon stuff.
DivKidVideo awesome, thank you !
I thought Michael Jackson was gonna play at 0:18
You are right. Anything less doesn't not do your deeply resonantly baroque yorkshire tones justice.....!
hahaha cheers
Loving the authentic Yorkshire "zee" :P
Everyone get out your wallets and push play!
yep!
I'm a fan of your videos, but I find the constant extreme panning very unpleasant to listen to in headphones.
Hi Bernard, noted. Hard to cater for all listening from straight out of a phone, TVs, home studios (speakers) and headphones.
Thanks for this amazing video :) Really lovely and powerful oscillator with endless possibilities :)
Thanks for watching.
