Only now this video is suggested.., but anyway nice to hear Nathan... (subscribed on his channel some years back for his content of different f1 manager games :)
Old school gamer here in my mid 40s who goes back to the NES days, the trouble I find with some of the racing games is that the learning curve is so difficult, which is why I gave up on F1 games from the PS2 days til this year. With the added assists it always newcomers to gradually get better and remove them, I am wondering if this game has that level of accessibility or is it one of those strictly for the dudes with the $4000 racing set up.
From what I've seen in other channels, it's good on a gamepad. So if you forget the first two PC games & prefer a more laid back racer, then this game might be for you.
Izz Din There’s a video up somewhere of a guy playing this on a pad with only two buttons, using the in game aids. So yeah, this is about as easy as anyone could ask.
Yeah should've just split them up Forza Motorsports/Forza Horizon style. I don't even hate what they did (I'm a Gran Turismo player at heart, accurate physics are cool but I'm ultimately here to play a video game and have fun) but they should have realized this isn't what their core audience is about.
Good overview. Some things that aren't mentioned, though: the AI is just as horrible as in PC2. With the highest AI setting, they are impossible to beat on some tracks, and incredibly slow on other tracks. Also, why can't we get money based on how we place in a race? As it is now you get money when you level up, so you get the same amount of money whether you finish first or last. The objective system should be reworked to always reward you when you win races, in addition to the other things (like fastest lap, clean laps etc.). And why couldn't they have tire wear/temps, pit stops, and fuel usage, but with the OPTION to turn it off? That would cater to more people. So their logic is kind of flawed. Anyway, I like the game for what it is - a fun career mode racer where you go through the ranks. And it isn't as arcade as Need for Speed or GRID if you play with a wheel with no assists off. In fact, some cars are so difficult to drive that I have to turn some assists on for them. They spin out immediately if you are not careful with throttle input, and that never happens in arcade games. Things might be different with a controller, though, with all the hidden assists.
i love the 1st PC on the playstation and used a control pad, the 2nd one seemed really hard to drive. not i was getting excited for pc3 until you said that the go karts was gone and there is no or less open wheel racing in the career mode. now glad that i had not brought it yet as it as saved me money.
This game is a perfect example of what not to do in marketing. They've pissed off their hardcore fans. Casuals gamers who didn't care for sims are going to avoid it due to the Project CARS name. A simple name change would've fixed this issue. This game is going to be a flop.
They could have called it anything else wouldn’t make any difference. PC2 players aren’t mad about the name. THEY’RE MAD SMS STOPPED MAKING SIMS. If the next game was still a sim but named anything but Project Cars, nobody would give a rats. It ain’t what something’s called. It’s what it IS...
One thing you didn't address is why does it look like a mobile game, with three polygons per vehicle model? Seriously, PS2 games compare favourably to this is certain visual aspects.
well good job SMS, thanks to your logic you've now dropped into the arcade racing game genre, of which the market is already oversaturated. your brand is doomed.
For those who cant be bothered to watch the entire video here is a short summary by me. Project cars 3 is just a quick cashgrab that isnt anything like its predecessors. It looks like a mobile game and it pretty much plays like one. my rating for the game is 3/10 and even that rating is generous
Matto Alternative summary... if you hated PC2 because it sucked on pad, and hate GTS because a) you’re on XBONE b) you’re on PC or c) you aren’t into motorsports simulators, you might like PC3 if you don’t already have FM7..!
@@1RolandG70 Alright fair. But theres plenty of choices for arcade racing games. I dont understand why they had to completely change the franchise and disappoint the die hard fans of the project cars games... And can we both agree that the price for the game is absolutely ridiculous?
Matto For the content, no, pretty decent. Only 82 tracks layouts (with only 32 locations) in GTS even after updates. Full weather, full 24/365 time, pretty good car list. Actually, track racing arcade games not that well represented. Plenty more open world than track. Paid about the same price for GTS at launch, got way less... Wait for the Xmas sale. Pretty sure half price by then!
They need to put out a free demo quick. So people like me who aren't sure whether they like the sim over the arcade due to time constraints can make a more informed decision. I have not written it if but if I don't get to try before buy I'm def not buying

I enjoy playing PCARS 3 even though it is nothing like 1 and 2. It's not a sim which is a shame but I didn't think PCARS 1 or 2 were great sims anyway just decent. I would rather play I-racing, ACC or R-Factor 2 when I want a true race simulator experience. I don't think PCARS 3 being an Arcade sim is a loss for sim racing fans. For me it's another Forza Motorsport game but with GT Sport style car physics and handling. I enjoy playing another arcade sim as I think Forza isn't great and I don't have a PS4 to play GT Sport. PCARS 3 is alright in my eyes and I don't understand the hate as the franchise never felt like a true sim in the first place.
Well, this started by being sold as the best simulator there was, they were all for simulation nothing for arcade, so there's probably where the people now are against them. And when you think of it, there are a lot of fun and with many fans already arcade games already, so one more is not likely to change the game much. They had the chance to be the simulator, the one that is daring to master, the one for real fans. And with this change now, it's likely the real fans go away from it, and the ones who just like to play stay on the mainstream arcade ones. So this is probably why people rage against this change now, as Obi-Wan would say it, [Project CARS] you were the chosen one.
They have royally f**ked up with this game. I love Project Cars 2 and I am a pad player. It takes some major fiddling but you can change settings and car setup to the point that it is a really easy game to play. They seem to be aiming at the Gran Tourismo fans with this but they don't need it!
You forgot that you must PURCHASE cars in game using game currency in order to drive them. This is true of purchased DLC (you have to buy it again with game currency), and in Custom Events. Basically, you cannot get what you pay for until you grind through the arcade aspects of the game. Utter crap gameplay model.
Atharva Date Problem is, SMS had a guaranteed sales base of their console PC2 players. Whether this is going to seriously tempt anyone away from Forza or GTS or any other arcade game is in question. SMS quite possibly burned their established base to the ground going after a different base that may end up being no larger...
That PIR system (parts of it) is what killed Forza Motorsport / Forza Horizon. Because an MR2 could win from top GT cars like a Skyline, etc. I don't get why every race game (simulation or otherwise) should be accessible to all race game fans. There are enough race games that are accessible: NFS (incl. Shift), Forza (Motorsport and Horizon), GRID, Juiced (in the past), F1 (from Codemasters), etc. I don't have any problems with Project Cars (1), which I'm still playing. (Because there is a lot to do in that game). I don't need another NFS game with a different UI. Every game should maintain it's own character. Like Gran Turismo is more or less doing. Burnout kept his identity, and had success... Only to be killed of by EA.
I’ve played all three games and enjoy all three. I use PC2 if I want a close to realistic challenge and use PC3 for a causal racing game for multiplayer and single player. I think PC3 would’ve had people be more forgiving for the change if they had marketed and named the game as a spin off from the main series kinda like what Codemasters are doing with DiRT.
I liked 1 and 2 but found their faults frustrating. Still on the fence about getting this one. Clearly not a sim so maybe I’ll wait for the price to go down and see if it’s any good for pick up and play. Not feeling that career mode at all though
car enthusiasts want high levels of customization, a large car roster and a racing game that appeal to different car 'cultures', which this game doesnt have. I really dont see how this game can really compete or find their market. especially with the next forza motorsport expected to arrive on PC gamepass and the console market being dominated by 1st party flagship titles.
i used a 360 controller fine with pc2 on pc i loved it, i don't see why they had to bend the knee and make it more arcadey. one can assume sale numbers will reflect their choice
After playing Project Cars 1 i was really disappointed because of all the bugs and glitches. Project Cars 2 was a step foward and i really like playing it, especially the possibility of endurance races in le mans and spa and so on. But with Project Cars 3...its just without words. It seems that the developers just throw all away and run away from everything they did well in the past years. This games is worst a possible sequel of NFS Shift 2 or Grid 2....its just so sad.
Is iRacing really worth it? I bought Project Cars 1 and 2 recently and with only a few hours i've had no issues on my budget PC and wheel set-up. Id rather go buy an actual car and race it in a local stock class circle or ice course racing. To me, a baller PC/wheel set up and subscription based Race Sim, Costs the same as grass roots racing in real life, in my personal experience.
It is what it is i guess. Coing from hundreds of hours on project cars 2....this game isnt for me....and LOADS of people ive seen reviewing it and commenting everywhere. The game is definitely hurting in online player numbers.
This game sucks with a controller. The maximum amount of steering lock is based on how fast you're going. It's impossible to take sharp turns at speed because you just can't turn the wheel enough. It's absurd and makes it basically unplayable with a controller. You have to slow down so much on some corners that you have no chance of keeping pace on certain tracks.
irysh9 All evidence on UA-cam to the contrary... you may simply be suffering the effects of uneven AI speed on differing events, but I’ve seen a boatload of pad driving videos with the driver easily able to beat the AI...
PC3 aside, I've been following Nathan since he started just making videos on his UA-cam channel playing old F1 management games; I'm glad The Race has picked him up, it's great to hear his voice again. (And it sounds like he's written the script as well)
PC1 and 2 were never simulators, they were both miles off from being realistic. I thought PC3 will be a fun arcade game but its looks like a mobile phone game.
How do you completely forget that they regressed the graphics wasn't mentioned once in here not only that but literally all of the car and track designs are ported over from pc2 and downgraded
BList In fairness, most of the people bitching about the graphics regression don’t seem to have noticed that console grid size went up 25% online. Or that it’s competing with Grid, so obviously a base that isn’t that picky about graphics... Or that it’s aimed squarely at base console kids, who had some serious issues with grid sizes on base Xbox1.
@@1RolandG70 I have project cars too right now online racing is terrible there's literally nobody here I imagine it's the same for project cars 3 because it's a worst game.
@@1RolandG70 You said it yourself it's aimed at kids who have consoles not at the community that assisted this racing simulator getting off of the ground not sure if you notice what I did there but that's what the car stands for community assisted racing simulator.

Finally an unbiased review of PC3. Most reviews are just "PC3 bad" and only focus on how it's a departure from the established formula. Glad you guys took the time to focus on both it's positives and negatives on it's own as well as portraying its turning to more simcade gameplay as something for players to decide if it's a good or bad thing. Personally, I feel like it should have been part of a different franchise or be made a spin-off. Making it a main-line numbered entry would be like if Turn 10 never bothered making the Forza Horizon title and made Horizon 1 be titled Motorsport 5.
People need to recognize that PC3 is the way it is because the majority of players aren’t going to go and spend $800+ for a racing rig just for one game. If you’re looking to a game for realism then your going about it all wrong, grow a pair and go to the iRacing simulator and stop complaining about a freakin game! What a bunch of whiners on here!

@@1RolandG70 links? Sounds like homeboy is playing some "no brakes" challenge in-game. Sounds interesting.
It would probably have benefited from being called something other than Project CARS tbh
This game should have been named a project cars off shoot series not a numbered sequel. If they did that they wouldn't have all this controversy
The first two were sims?? Oh dear.
I didn't expect PSL to turn up on this channel, and it was a pleasant surprise - loved his F1 Manager content, great addition to the channel imo!
They need to put out a free demo quick. So people like me who aren't sure whether they like the sim over the arcade due to time constraints can make a more informed decision. I have not written it if but if I don't get to try before buy I'm def not buying
Good question!!! It is different from the other versions, Why? Because was a simulator, now they choose to make an arcade.
I'm not exactly a good sim racer so was interested in this and admit was tempted, that was until I read the graphics were poor and it is £49.99!
they said back in a intervew back in Dec 31, 2018 that project cars 3 was gonna be a Spiritual Successor to Shift. aka fuckng nfs shift 1 and 2 which are an amazing game. project cars 3 feels like shift 2 its amazing
Audio in this video is decidedly sub par. Just like the game.
Don't think it should be called project cars
This game was built with an intention to bring more casual players to the franchise.
It's really the hardcore fans of the game that are upset about it
Atharva Date Problem is, SMS had a guaranteed sales base of their console PC2 players.
Did you record the audio through a cardboard box?
what is best sim racer for console now
trying to sell it on negatives. i'm questioning your sim racer cred.
is that the voice of PSL Racing?
PSLutonRules! Who next, Jimmer?! lol
I’ve played all three games and enjoy all three. I use PC2 if I want a close to realistic challenge and use PC3 for a causal racing game for multiplayer and single player. I think PC3 would’ve had people be more forgiving for the change if they had marketed and named the game as a spin off from the main series kinda like what Codemasters are doing with DiRT.
i just want Project Gotham Racing 5
I have never heard a sim racing game review with the word controller so much it used in it
In all response to you project cars 3 is just not a racing SIM it's an arcade game no pit stops no tire wear. what racing simulator is that
I liked 1 and 2 but found their faults frustrating. Still on the fence about getting this one. Clearly not a sim so maybe I’ll wait for the price to go down and see if it’s any good for pick up and play. Not feeling that career mode at all though
this is a successor to NFS shift 2
car enthusiasts want high levels of customization, a large car roster and a racing game that appeal to different car 'cultures', which this game doesnt have. I really dont see how this game can really compete or find their market. especially with the next forza motorsport expected to arrive on PC gamepass and the console market being dominated by 1st party flagship titles.
This isn't even a sim-cade... it's a super-obvious-arcade racing game at the level of need for speed
I like Pcars and pcars2. Both in PS4. Very Nice games, but the setups for cars and FFB are real nightmares. But its just my opinion.
i used a 360 controller fine with pc2 on pc i loved it, i don't see why they had to bend the knee and make it more arcadey. one can assume sale numbers will reflect their choice
So it's more like the old Gran Turismo games?
PSLutonRules!! Nice one mate 👍
This game sucks with a controller. The maximum amount of steering lock is based on how fast you're going. It's impossible to take sharp turns at speed because you just can't turn the wheel enough. It's absurd and makes it basically unplayable with a controller. You have to slow down so much on some corners that you have no chance of keeping pace on certain tracks.
irysh9 All evidence on UA-cam to the contrary... you may simply be suffering the effects of uneven AI speed on differing events, but I’ve seen a boatload of pad driving videos with the driver easily able to beat the AI...
codemasters has ruined slightly mad studios. first that fast and furious game and now this? it's a shameful downgrade for a skilled studio like sms.
Because the first 2 games were actually good
For me its more like a Forza game, which cant be a bad thing. If i want real, GT7 is my go to racing game.
Can I play on phone
PC3 aside, I've been following Nathan since he started just making videos on his UA-cam channel playing old F1 management games; I'm glad The Race has picked him up, it's great to hear his voice again. (And it sounds like he's written the script as well)
Sucks they didn’t make it a better version of the second one.
Ian Bell lied to us all, promising the next gen "SIMULATION". Total opposite of what we were told. Heavy disappointment 😡.
SimRacer GT POP quiz. Name one thing Ian Bell ever delivered on...
Ding! Time’s up! ⏱
@@1RolandG70 Hahahaha, what a reply.
PC1 and 2 were never simulators, they were both miles off from being realistic. I thought PC3 will be a fun arcade game but its looks like a mobile phone game.
JWoz38 ehh I mean they were closer to being full on sims than forza and gt.....
@@sunnohh
PC2, GT Sport and Forza Motorsport are Simcade. Forza is closer to Arcade, PC2 is closer to Sim and GT Sport is somewere in the middle.
@@1RolandG70 Even if it was a better game the grid size means absolutely nothing because I have yet to find a lobby that is full in North America
@@1RolandG70 You said it yourself it's aimed at kids who have consoles not at the community that assisted this racing simulator getting off of the ground not sure if you notice what I did there but that's what the car stands for community assisted racing simulator.
@@1RolandG70 are you telling me that because the grid size of an online race has 25% more available space for racers that my single player mode has to look like a brick I don't see how they're related You can scale down multiplayer while leaving single player alone but that's not what they did
Finally an unbiased review of PC3.
I think if this game is supposed to be sort of an entry into racing and maybe even sum sim racing, it gets beaten out by GT Sport.
Thanks, it's always nice to save money on an old favorite title gone to shit.
Can someone tell me why it has HUD of Forza ?
Hardware Mentor PK Er, because Forza players are the least capable of adjusting to a change? LOL
To be honest, I thought the first one was shit already. Driving a car isn't difficult, and they don't feel like the ones in PC.
Play Assetto Corsa
I would actually buy it but that price is HUGE IM NOT PAIYNG ALL THAT MONEY
Spoiler : It's now an arcade game.
Sim Of the Year My A$$
if pc2 is unrealistic id bet gta 5 has better physics than pc3
Re playing pcars 2 is still up to the level in2020 this new version is nobuy
