  • SYMPTOMS OF BAD PCV VALVE Any Car
    Modern engines had PCV Valve and eventually the PCV Valve will go bad. The pcv valve is a serviceable part and it is supposed to be replaced between 30,000 and 60,000 miles. Most people will never ever replace their pcv valve. The pcv valve is very important part of the engine that ensures that your engine will last long time. Bad pcv valve may make your engine to look like it is blown. In this video we will explain the symptoms of a bad pcv valve and what the pcv valve does. We demonstrated on Mazda engine but most cars will use close design. BMW pcv system is known to be more complicated.

      I still don't understand the symptoms. This guys annoying voice and english didn't make it easy. Can you please explain? I've read and seen videos of this valve going bad or the hoose connected to it with cracks developing vacuum leaks.
      My car is sometimes hard to start, sometimes it starts and dies so I need to restart and sometimes it barely starts with like 650-700rpm idle and the car shakes and it feels like its running on 2 or 3 cylinders. So i need to press on throttle to make the engine go back to it's normal state at idle 900-950 rpm and not that shaking :)
      Car is twitching when driving, mostly on lower city driving speeds or when engine braking.. coming to a stop. Also idle fluctuating when braking to a stop. Compensating up and down.. really annoying.. until it smooths out. Not all the time..

After swapping out the PCV valve my car stop smoking and even on hard acceleration no more clouded smoke. Thanks for the videos man I took it to the mechanic and he thinks that DIY videos are foolish. he said it was the seal guides from the valve stems and a $3,500 fix when it was really a $5 fix. Mine was sticking open. I started noticing a harder start on cold start. Also noticed a very slight misfire at idle while warming up. Not enough to cause a CEL or anything. I could tell something just wasnt quite right, my oil was getting extremely black after only 300-500 miles as well. Replaced my pcv valve and all of that has stopped. Engine starts perfectly now in the morning with no hesitation. Idle is perfect, did an oil change and its no longer getting jet black at only 400 miles. 58,000 miles on my 2019 civic coupe turbo. Now im on a crusade to get people to replace their pcv valves. Another thing is modern pcv valves dont necessarily rattle when new like the old days. Also dont try cleaning them, just replace it. Theyre cheap on most cars, and easy to do. If youve never replaced it, or have no record of it being done, just do it.

As far as i know it was the first time it has been changed. One thing it said to look for a valve cover leak. Sure enough. The lefted side in the back is starting to leak. Not real bad. Thank God. Check ever bolt and they were tight. The back bolt was a little lose. Not much. But a little. Time will tell if changing the pcv and tighting that one bolt. Will work.

    First time I changed the oil on my current vehicle the pcv grommet was holding on to the valve. Practically took a 2 ton press to pull it out. Exaggeration. I was careful because used to the only place you could get those grommets was the dealer. Might be aftermarket by now. They say throw it away and put in another Mopar valve. I just sprayed brake cleaner through it, fried it, and put it back in. But the biggest thing about positive crankcase ventilation is how they'll sludge an engine and ruin internal seals. There used to be a better way of ventilation but I can't tell you about it. Short trips will also sludge an engine. People usually blame the oil but it's rarely the source of sludge. PCV is just a check ball in a passage that works like a diode. Keeps it going one direction. So I just thought about it in my head and figured out there's probably a spring before the check valve. That's probably what wears out on the PCV valve. I should probably order one.

    Had to quit listening, can't understand. PCV = positive crankcase ventilation. It releases pressure that is built up by the piston on the down stroke. If plugged gaskets will leak on valve covers, oil pans, etc. It was introduced in 68 or 69 as the first attempt at smog reduction. Before the pcv valve the engines had a breather tube usually in the rear that vented the vapors into the air. The pcv sucks the vapors back into the intake for another cycle. Race engines does not use them, they need clean air with no oil vapors. I don't know if he covered any of this info but I just felt like adding my 2 cents in case it might help someone. By the way if it rattles its good.

    • @JT-SE-OHIO
      @JT-SE-OHIO 3 роки тому

      @Jay Dee While you have the hood up why not do both? A new pcv valve shouldn't plug up very fast unless the piston rings are worn and letting some compression by and into the crankcase.
