When you go to meditation retreats, And you're really bored and you read a book, if it's about the past, it'll feel like you're in the past. Especially if you go to a retreat with no technology. You can't pinpoint what year it is because you don't have the technology to indicate it. So when you read those books you literally get transported in time and it is a very sublime sensation

The worst way to study history is to pretend that past is not intelligent and think about it as a dead corp. Past is alive. Past is intelligent. Past is passionate. Past is excitement. Past is willing. Past is not a bunch of lost feelings

That can't be the whole quote? I don't think it's just about the Past, but rather the psychological lessons learned from leveraging the past. Nothing else matters as much?

Repeating past is not just that we don't remember nor know it. It is sometimes a need. The worst way to study history is to pretend that past is not intelligent and think about it as a dead corp. Past is alive. Past is intelligent. Past is passionate. Past is excitement. Past is willing. Past is not a bunch of lost feelings

I would like to add something. Now that you are talking about the sublime, i recomend everybody to imagine how It was, to be where the events happened and to look at every object as a keeper of an untold story that we might never know about. This is fascinating in all the senses, it is similar to the feeling of looking at the stars, wondering about how incredible it is to be alive!
Cannot wait for the laws of the sublime!!!

I am really interested in history. I especially like pre-columbian US history. The pre-columbian US actually had many cities, and a lot of the pre columbian US actually practiced agriculture too. For instance there several cities with an urban population of over 20,000 like Cahokia with 45,000 people, and an 100 foot tall earthen mound at it's center that had a base that was larger than The Great Pyramid of Giza. Even on the pre-columbian east coast there were small cities like in 300 CE there was the ancient city of Tequesta in what is now miami with possibly 6,000 people. It had had clay/terracotta round houses with thatched roofs. Or the algonquins had towns like Chowanoke with perhaps 3,000 people and 50 bark longhouses. The algonquin native groups had 50-60 foot long ocean going canoes, some with sails and were sailing long before the europeans arrived I read. Also in pre-columbian Florida there was a kingdom called the Kingdom of Escampaba or Calusa and it's capital was on a artifical island in Estero Bay in Southwest Florida. And there were tons of Paramountcy's/ Paramount chiefdoms and chiefdoms in the pre-columbian US, even a democracy in the iroquois confederacy, which was founded in 1142. I have a series on my youtube channel where I generate completely random times and places in history.

You may be living in a historic moment. Write a letter to your future grandchild about what it was like to live in 2024. If you love history then find ways to awaken your interest and imagination of the subject. Those were real people with interesting lives if you care to know of them. They're like ghosts who are lonely and bored. They'd love to talk with you and tell you what they know. Maybe it will help you understand the present with greater clarity.

Go see the Killing fields. Go see the concentration camps. Hire good tour guides who explain well. Talk to the elderly who lived through history. / i hated in history in school textbooks but i absolutely love history when i see history come alive in front of my eyes , as real buildings and real objects and real places and real people.

    I have enjoyed HISTORICAL FICTION
But I must say in warning
The way the characters respond in this historical environment under these circumstances says a lot about human nature
However the actions of the characters are only as accurate and evolved and wise as the author writing them.
I would not read a historical fiction by Robert Green as his strategies do not have integrity and he lives in fear. People in history did not live at the level of fear that we do in general. He will inject his own fear in the characters... Haven't you ever noticed we think big heroes only existed way in the past? Why is that.
