    Love the Ioniq 5's design. My neighbor has one and I love seeing that retro-future styling cruising around town.
    Congrats on the 50k also! Very well deserved, and hopefully just the beginnning. Your channel VERY quickly became a favorite. Easy to listen to, good humor, fun formats, and great quality.

    The Ioniq 5 and EV6 are probably my favorite EVs on the market but after looking at a lot of forums I don't think I would risk buying one. They have major problems with ICCU failures that Hyundai/Kia don't seem to be able to fix. Kind of surprised that there's no reporting on this and they continue to win awards from journalists.

      Hyundai/Kia can't seem to make a car that doesn't grenade itself to save their lives. ICE, EV, doesn't matter - which is indicative of a lack of QC, honestly. Which is too bad, because the design and features (when they work) appear to be very nice.

      i own one and they did a software update to fix that issue last month. also 5 years warranty on the ICCU or 60k miles. Really though who wants to keep a car more than 5 years now when there is so many good advances every year

    • @hacob2004
      @hacob2004 5 місяців тому +2

      @@CSIG1001 They’ve done several software updates to fix this issue and none have worked. It got so bad that class action lawsuits were filed and this last one was a recall rather than just a service bulletin like they were in the past. I’ve seen several reports of blown ICCUs even after the latest update. Also, the warranty would make me less concerned about if I hadn’t read tons of horror stories about how bad the dealerships have been to deal with and how their cars have spent months waiting for the parts

    Huh. This is my very car. Identical. I've had mine for nearly 6 months. Love it! So much better than the Tesla it replaced. My one complaint is that Hyundai should allow you to set the i-Pedal and have it remain on for the next time you get in the car.

      @@user-xi1il1lr3k Ooooh… so many that I can't name them all in these limited comments! Wish I could just send you a link. Drat. I guess one of the best features is that the HDA-II Automated Driver Assist System actually _assists_ you -rather than taking over complete control of the car, like the Tesla. You still retain control if, say, you need to steer around roadkill, a pothole, a biker, a tumbleweed in the road. Doing that with a Tesla cancels Autopilot, so you have to reset it.

      @@Yanquetino absolutely could be an OTA update. The 2025 models will be "true" OTA update capable with the ccNC acting like a Tesla. But I believe for 2024 and older you would need to take it into the dealership to install the over the air update

      @@StuckOnAFireHydrant NA Miata buddy?? I love my NA, and I would have an Ioniq 6 IF we had a Limited last year in the summer when they were doing a stupid employee deal on them. However, I've realized that I may not be staying in the sales world much longer, and not having access to a home charger at all in an apartment, so I have a 25 Elantra N M/T (Intense Blue, in case anyone cares) on allocation request that was just picked up, so I also relate going from one odd end of the spectrum to another. IF you can home charge and can deal with the lower range and want the best of a performance car AND an EV, you have absolutely got to try the I5N. We had one in that was matte Performance Blue, and if I were just two years younger and slightly less financial foresight into my own personal road ahead, I would have bought it, no questions asked. I though that the hype was somewhat overblown, but it is probably one of my favorite cars, period, and I get to drive all sorts of stuff from Ms and AMGs to C8s, a fresh Golf R we just traded, among other more classic enthusiast cars. And when you're not being a hooligan in it, it goes back to being a slightly stiffer, lowered Ioinq 5 push 2.5-3mi/kw.
      Hope this insight is helpful :)

Might swap the Mustang for this and then hit the used market for a good clean ND2 or see if I can find a NB that hasn't been ragged tf out for a weekend toy.

    I absolutely adore this car! It was going to be my first EV purchase. However, after reading what current owners are going through, I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass. Between the 12 Volt battery issue and that Canadian guy that had to spend $50K on a new battery, I'm going to have to wait for Hyundai to get their act together before buying this car.

    • @fiehlsport

      Just buy the car, the 12v issues have been fixed with software updates. You’re not going to need a new HV battery, and if you did, it would be covered by warranty or insurance. This is one of the best EVs on the market. The internet blows everything out of proportion.

    Seems strange that the 2024 Ioniq 5 has USB-A and no wireless carplay/auto, but the Kona Electric has USB-C and wireless carplay/auto.

    • @Miatalustrium
      @Miatalustrium 4 місяці тому +1

      I am not an expert, but it seems like both are the product of manufacturing logistics. When they developed the UI for the 5, it had already piggy-backed off the system the other Hyundais in our lineup (I have been selling with Hyundai/Genesis since 2020) that all had the same annoying feature: you upgrade to the bigger screen with nav and you *lose* wireless connectivity. IT has to do with how they wire in their own navigation system, BUT! As of a few days ago, a customer of mine did reach out and say that he got an OTA update on his 23 Santa Fe PHEV that gave him access to Wireless Carplay, and it was always my understanding that the company wanted to retroactively add it to cars that lost it when getting the navigation system.
      Same thing with the USB-A ports; they had likely already developed and produced enough of the components around USB-A console that switching to the USB-C on the fly would cost way more in remanufacturing/redesign than it would cost in customers sometimes saying, "Hmm, that's weird, but I already have seven of those cables, so no biggie." Most people don't even know what the difference is in USB port types, anyway, so it's a small very small issue, in their eyes. Though, obviously the 25s and onwards across the entire lineup will have type C ports, and most of the 24s already have them, excluding the Tucson and Venue.

    The included level 1 EV charger most likely also has the capability of level 2 charging, although limited to a maximum of 12 amps at 240 volts.
    All you need is a 14-50p to 6-20r adapter and a 6-15p to 5-15r adapter to complete the connection to your Hyundai level 1 charger.
    You'll at least double your normal level 1 charging rate, giving you up to 10 miles per hour, rather than 5 miles per hour.
    During a twelve hour off-peak time frame, you'll add around 120 miles of range; not bad!
    Of course, please consult with an electrician if you don't have sufficient electrical knowledge!
    Just make sure that the above-mentioned charging accessories, available through Amazon, are of high quality and meet the required specifications.

    The real headline here is that you can get the Genesis GV60 in Advanced Trim for $62,500. I'm not sure it meets the same luxury standard as other ICE Genesis models for interior materials, but at least you get a decently better sound system and sound insulation for a negligible price increase.

    • @cluberti

      I feel the same way about Genesis as I do about Infiniti - the brand they're based on is not reliable enough to trust the "luxury" models for any price. If I want a luxury vehicle based on something cheaper, I'm going with Lexus or Acura, not Genesis. That's just me though.

    i find the default level 3 fine when i get in. Auto on the highway, and i pedal if i am tired and in the city. Not a deal breaker for me. Having owned two civic type r's i find the ioniq 5 limited to destroy most cars off the line and suits me just fine. Definitely not a racer but a smooth quiet fast off the line vehicle. I love the V2L its a game changer for glamping and i also love the hud and dash with buttons. Not to mention you can close the panoramic moon roof ! Do not forget rear view camera. Tesla still doesnt have.
    I paid 7149.00 for a all pay lease , no payments for 24 months , 24k miles , free fast charging for 2 years. 17k in state and federal rebates/ and discounts. try getting that with a tesla!!!!.
    I will be moving to tesla model y once V2L is implemented.

      I prefer the Volvo in almost every way. Ioniq has it beat in rear seat room, and honestly overall openness of the cabin. Range is similar enough to call it a dead heat. Volvo infotainment was less glitchy believe it or not. I had multiple instances of the Ioniq infotainment freezing for minutes at a time.
      Where the Volvo really shines is in driving dynamics. It's a pleasure to drive, and has the signature light steering that we love.

    The problem with current gen EVs is the depreciation and second hand market is an absolute wasteland. They are consumables that after 7-10 years require maintenance that cost more than the vehicle is worth, sometimes even when it was still new. I think in 10 or so years(mid 2030s) we will look at them like how the late 70s muscle cars were. 7 liter V8s putting out 155 horsepower, perhaps only desired aesthetically and nothing else. Its a bad time to join team EV, imho. Needs more time in the oven. Hybrids are the way to go for now for the mpg or environmentally conscious.

That commute would be do-able with a 250 mile battery and will only need to charge back at home in your garage after work. Seems to make a lot of sense for the majority of people with common commutes. If you are an outlier that has a long commute and out in the boonies, yeah it's silly
