as a diehard mitsu fan it hurts, im an australian we didnt even get eclipse here (but we got the bastardization crossover) but we got a tonne of evos ralliarts colts magnas as well as the 3000gt and FTO which are rare gems nowadays, base naturally aspirated lancers are everywhere here (ive got an imitation evo X, i'll never afford a real one) and they fucking tear up the khanacross
IIRC, wasn't the 3000GT called the GTO in Australia as well? Plus, I learned the 380 (aka the final generation Galant here in N. America) you had down there got a MANUAL TRANSMISSION, while our Galant at that time did not. That's just SACRILEGE on our part up here...!
@@dth2brny121 yeah I mean they've all got GTO badges but because of their appearances in movies and video games as 3000gt the names are used relatively interchangeably, i'll use GTO in person when im talking with a bunch of mates but i'll use 3000gt online cuz its likely more people will recognize that. we have manual 380s but theyre getting a lot harder to find for every manual there's like 10 automatics
@Stretchy MC Yeah, the back story on the GTO/3000GT is that the 3000GT name was used in N. America and Europe because the GTO moniker is famously associated with the Pontiac GTO and the Ferrari 250 GTO, so the negative connotations of seeing those three letters on a Japanese car wouldn't fly apparently, lol... So, it is what it is. The GTO name in this instance however, was chosen by Mitsubishi as an homage to the Galant GTO of the 70's, which was huge in Japan.
I think I've watched Jame's Seinfeld impersonation 10 times now... It kills me every time lol. You guys are the best; thank you so much for the great content across your channels!
Mitsubishi is the first import to ever be covered in hotrod magazine. Back in 2003 John shepherds eagle talon was making over 1000 awhp and was doing 7 second quarter mile times.
My friend designed the 4th gen Eclipse. His concept was pretty radical but by the time it made it to market it had been changed so much he quit Mitsubishi. His direction was to bring back the excitement of the GSX but the upper management wanted watered down FWD automatics.
Even though this is 6 months old, Ill let you guys in on why Papa Murphree's is a take home and bake your own pizza model biz. It's so that people on EBT (what used to be known as "food stamps") can buy their pizzas to take home and bake. As EBT cannot be used to buy prepared food. Shit like grocery store bakery's and deli's that serve warmed prepared food, think Walmart, Publix, etc. rotisserie chicken's and such cannot be bought with EBT cards. The chicken's that are not sold the day of rotary baking are put into the fridge section of the deli, which then they can be bought with the EBT card. So, Papa M's sell their pizza's all put together, but uncooked so that families on the EBT card can get themselves a pizza as for the most part they cannot afford a night of Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's and such. They are choosing not to directly compete with those big nationwide pizza company's and instead focus on the low side of the economy class who depend on the EBT program.
Clarification on the small trucks. The Dodge Rampage was a Chrysler product, based on the FWD K-car platform. That's also what the Charger was btw. The D-50 was a Mitsubishi Mighty Max, and was directly analogous to other minitrucks from Toyota and Datsun, Ford Courier, Chevy Luv, etc. RWD, body on frame. My dad actually has a 1985 Dodge D-50 that he dailies. The Mitsubishi Raider was a rebadged Dakota.

My brother's 2023 Outlander PHEV got a Maserati to blow it's engine at a stop light drag. He's the guy just bought it and blew the engine before the break in period. He looked behind him and saw smoke coming from the hood as he drove away. The 0-60 on the PHEV feels pretty quick, it's just after 60 the car is a bit sluggish. Thing is at least as fun to drive as a Tesla, plus he can get 40-60 miles of electric range. I drove it again last night, it's so smooth compared to my normal 2.5L FWD 2022 Outlander.
I bought a lightning yellow OZ Lancer in July 2002 and had it until August 2016. When I bought it I had a good job and decent credit but could not get the 0-0-0 financing deal. Meanwhile people I met through Mitsu car clubs were working part time in retail and got the deal. After about a year the club fell apart as so many Lancers were predictably repo'd.
I'm suprised at how Airtrek Turbo never took off in US. It can be swap for EVO 8 and 9 motor+trans .... plus its much cheaper that EVO or EVO Wagon. The Ralli Art Airtrek body kit are still available in salvage yard throughout Asia and Europe
That 25 models in 25 is crazy. As of this moment on the Mitsubishi motors website (in the US) they have 6 models. But technically if you pair that down, that's two versions of the Mirage, the Eclipse Cross and 3 versions of the Outlander. So more like 3 models. Crazy...
as somebody who has owned a yellow lancer (2007 not 2003), and currently drives a 2014 lancer... they are fine cars, they look decent, they run fairly cheap, reliable, you can sometimes imagine its an EVO....... and in Australia they are easy to find Manuel cars in 2023... and that's something, but yeah..... you get them because they are cheap, and reliable/pretty good cars for the price.
