Female Car Enthusiast here! 🙋♀️ Thank you for addressing the "tuner girl" thing. I remember buying tuner magazines and being frustrated that they were littered with models. Flipping through the pages in highschool could get awkward.
As a man I get annoyed every time I see a car magazine with these models in it. If I wanted to look at models, I'd buy something related to that. But for gods sake I want to know about the cars.
growing up in Southern California, I would go to the asian grocery stores and pick up Japanese magazines on VWs and Mini Cooper, and that's what got me into GTI's and Mini coopers.
22:04 correction, while Option did make the videos and such, it was actually a collab that Smokey did with Max magazine in the UK, but to get more exposure, Smokey took Option with him to the UK so they could write their own stuff about him in Japan.
In Australia we have 2 big car mags: Wheels for new cars in general, and Motor for sports and performance cars, (plus other mags for trucls and motorbikes). Ever since i started earning wages i used to buy both Wheels and Motor (admittedly, Motor was my favourite). I learnt so much about so many different cars and the companies that made them, it really helped solidify my love for cars, what made them tick, and how they were able to do what they were built to do. Love cars, love Donut. Keep us fired up with your awesome content. Never stop learning new things
Daijiro Inada is so cool. Living your life the way you wanted (without harming anyone of course) is the best way to go and live IMO. I'm getting an options magazine after this
@Dount Podcasts 18:15 DAEWOO Lanos is a very popular car in Egypt a lot of people still use them, because they are cheap and they are still in manufacture till this day , so their parts are cheap and very easy to find
I love this podcast Please don’t stop making it I put these on while I drive for work and it makes the time fly It makes me laugh And it’s extremely interesting If you have to start talking about different types of headlights or why the 10mm is THE tool so be it I’ll be listening 💪🏻
Yeah the script info is good but the podcast is better when they are joking about it, it's funny to me when nolan has to reign it back on topic. But they are getting alot better about just joking through the topics.
Any chance of an episode on Max Power Magazine and other British tuning magazines? Besides the 'tuner girls', promoting the 198mph run, Vicki Butler-Henderson from the original Top Gear being the assistant launch editor and mechanic, having a PS1 game named after it and links with the UK version of Pimp my Ride for starters.
I remember first coming across Donut Media through your collab with Alex Marchant, Cow Chop, and personally don’t know shit about cars and was hooked by not only your content on both channels, but mainly your individual personalities and the synergy between you guys. Plus I’ve always found the world or racing and the history so interesting, and the way you guys serve it up for my ears like a tasty steak. Hands down best find and subscription ive made this year. Thanks ya buncha Donuts. Mmmmmm donuts (Homer Simpson drooling sound) I nutted
@Donut Podcasts I'm super confused @48:55 James says the supra is RB powered, which I thought had to be wrong. I googled top secret RB26, then top secret 1gz and I can't tell which powertrain did what. :(
You guys should do a donut magazine like option magazine was back in the day I do believe it would do good and you can have people in charge of different areas around the United States for different styles and clubs and just interviewing people about their cars and what they have in them and what's going on the scene in their state maybe a section where it could be some crazy put-together street cars that are done in home and not by shops. And even sell limited edition stickers that are donut but look like option stickers from back in the day 2
I remember Option.... good ol days, when I when I arrived back in America, I swapped out for Sport Compact Car magazine. And man, do I miss the hell out of Sport Compact Car.
I’ve collected Option, Super Street, Modified, Import Tuner and D-Sport magazines for years!! I only get Super Street now tho, so many sweet rides. Being an American sucks sometimes hahaha.
I was so stoked to be googling turbo magazine and happened to be looking at the jay leno nos cover as joe started taking about it. I’m my own Jamie! Pull that shit up… but you do need moar visuals plz
i currently live in Japan and people really don’t care about how much horsepower your car has or how fast 0-60 in straight lines. they would often joke “that’s an American thing”
@@sharklegs slapping LED strips and anime stickers I guess.lol but honestly I admire how much thought they put into the balance of the car, handling, and then their driving skills. obviously, the touge and drifting styles versus drag strips. When you ask “how much horsepower you got?” most of the time they wouldn’t even know. I guess that’s how less they care about engine output. Not sure if you know what the “shutokoh highway” is, but the street racers here are insane. Get out there any night of the week and you’ll find someone chasing somebody through these tight high speed turns.
100% agree about Super Street and Sport Compact Car being the perfect duo. Sprinkle in some honda-tech.com and HMT, and you have my eg6. #chrome #bre #neptune
Tokyo Auto Salon is incredible I have been 4 times now, What I will say is it’s INCREDIBLY busy. Literally shoulder to shoulder. And you will see a lot a LOT of creepy old men with big cameras and long lenses zooming in on the models on every stand. They literally have DJ shows and dancing girls performing with crowds 5-6 deep trying to film them. It bugs out a lot of the car guys but it also brings in a lot of publicity. Last time I was there Ken block and mad mike made a appearance. Even better is checking out the car parks outside as it’s full of dream 90s shit boxes
Once I moved from Japan and then went to California Mitsuya would hold me over they did have a lot of japanese groceries and household stuff along with certain magaizines and cool stuff so it helped when i was missing all the japanese stuff .man what great time in my life i definetly miss japan .
A girl demoing different techniques and breaking down the science behind driving would be cool. That would be a dope "girls" tab haha even just stuff like oversteer/understeer, heal toe, power sliding vs drifting, drag racing pulls and reaction times, dowforce vs no areo, ect. There could be months of new content and bring new people to the culture.
I went to amazon japan during this podcast and just bought a Japanese tuning magazine that I probably can't actually read lmao Not option but I found a yearly release just for Daihatsu Copen tuning. Will get option next time.
I would love to see a female donut instead of talking crap about the magazines that objectify women. You know like put our money where our mouth is? Girl Dad here, learning as well, not judging. Love you guys. Keep the conversation going yall! Duke of Nashville.
OMG, I remember the car SCC chopped up to get it faster- the white Sentra they literally chopped down to the frame! (which I think made it 2 seconds faster in the 1/4)
Yeah, Max Power. I read that when I worked in a filling station a long time ago in a land far away. Purple, bodykitted Ford Escort XR3I's with standard seats in them. That sorta tacky, If anyone was wondering. They will hunt me down now.
Sport Compact Car FTW! Disco Potato, The Dave Point, and so many other iconic details that really gave it character. Skip the models and the ricey BS, give me a clean, well tuned, purpose build import.
I'd LOVE to see an ACTUAL Donut media magazines....
Like for limited printed issues hahaha. Just as a one time thing, would be cool.

@Jimmy Johnny Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D Appreciate it !!
The girls in Import Tuner helped me realize I'm not straight. "Ma'am, could you PLEASE move so I can see the RX-7?"

I learn so much from this series, like how Team Midnight invented lunch, and that Polyphia’s been a band since 1948. Great work.
Nolan: "first car magazine.. in 1895." Joe: "It has a woman pulling up her long dress and you see like, an inch of ankle."
