Thank you for sharing this extremely rare video. 1975 was not a particularly interesting year for One Life to Live. The storylines had grown stale and sluggish, and although the characters were interesting and played by good actors, they were either stagnating or taking bizarre turns. It was right about this point when Russell and Hall began to lay the foundation for more compelling long-running stories. All the business about Cathy and Megan and the child’s involvement with Joe and Viki would take a huge turn the very next week after this episode aired. Following Cathy and Tony’s flinty meeting, Anna convinced her to give Tony another chance. Cathy offered her extra symphony ticket to Tony. That stormy night proved fatal to Megan. She had an asthma attack while Viki looked after her. Viki bundled the child up and raced to the hospital during a terrible storm. Cathy’s insanity and fallout from Megan’s death would be a major story for the next two years.
@@bigal650 Viki wasn’t pregnant yet. She was keeping the secret that Megan would have eventually died from a congenital heart condition, passed on to her by Joe. On the day Viki was released from the hospital in December, she and Joe slept together, not thinking about the fact that Viki hadn’t been taking birth control pills while comatose, 😂 Jim Craig suggested she take a pregnancy test just in case, and of course Viki had become pregnant from that one night. This all came into play the following September when Kevin was born and a deranged Cathy kidnapped him. Joe found out everything and blamed Viki for keeping the secret from him. She in turn blamed him for sleeping with Cathy and fathering an illegitimate child. This led to them deciding that their marriage was over, and they separated. This is why they’re apart and cold to one another in Larry and Karen’s April 1977 wedding episode.

I recognize Anna as one of the recurring judges on "Law & Order" (among other roles). The actress playing Tim's mother looks so familiar, but I can't place her. I loved seeing this, but it's surprising just how stilted and awkward a lot of the dialogue seems. That moment when Carla talks to Jenny at the hospital desk, Carla has her back turned to the camera! WTF! Couldn't they have blocked that scene better? Carla is also clearly reading off cue cards when she's talking to Anna. And that confrontation between Steve and Cathy is just plain weird. It seems like he's putting this "dippy women's libber" in her place by kissing her. The way the scene plays, it's supposed to be playful, but damn he could get arrested for doing that nowadays! During the end credits, the announcer mentions "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell premieres this Saturday." This was not the SNL created by Lorne Michaels that is still on the air today. It's a different show that was in competition with the NBC series (that likewise debuted during this time period.) Lorne Michaels had to call his show "NBC's Saturday Night" at first because Cosell had already snatched up the rights to the name, but Cosell's version of SNL bombed and the NBC show title was changed. Bill Murray was an ensemble player on Cosell's show during its brief run.
I noticed how awkward that scene was as well. But having read Ellen Holly’s book and seen her interview here on YT, I wonder if this is around the same time that some of the issues she mentioned began to happen.
Tim Siegel's mother is played by the incredible Alice Hirson, who had several memorable roles, one as Stephanie Martin on EON and playing Ellen DeGeneres's mother on ELLEN.

@@dwsh1 I totally agree it was wrong. I was thinking about these kinds of scenes in soaps in the 60's and 70's and even early 80's where these sexual assaults were basically ignored or seen as just a woman being hit on. I didn't see it but Luke raped Laura on GH around 1980 wasn't it? Were the male writers purposely making these assaults to be nothing so men could be allowed to do these crimes? I wonder now. Or were they projecting society's acceptance of it? I was a 14 year old male in 1975 but I do not remember seeing this scene or any others as I was growing up. I have seen others on youtube in the last few years too that were assault and nothing done about them in there various soap worlds. Left for Europe to pursue further an operatic career and unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer soon thereafter and passed rather quickly. An all-time favorite luminous actress and what a pleasure to see Dorrie Kavanaugh here, she forever shines brightly.
Carla is the only one I recognized...
The plot lines are hysterical 😂
Oh, Wow!! This really takes me way back!! Thanks so much for Posting. Where on Earth did you get these? And Tom Berenger in OLTL, Wowi!! A long time ago. I'm hoping to See Jackie Zeman on some if them from 1977. Do you have any with her?
@patty1977
I would like to know if George Meyer does requests because I have posted him several posts but he didn't respond.
Do you have any AMC or GH episodes from the 70s to post?
@GeorgeMeyer
I would like to know if you have episodes of All My Children, One Life To Live and Ryan's Hope from 1977 with commercials; that goes for the $20,000 Pyramid as well.
Any chance there’s a clip of Tim’s death? It was spring or summer of 1976
Eileen Sigel back then reminds me of Heather Webber now
I remember this WOW
Back then Hawaiian punch in a can! Lol
I think it still is I'm pretty sure it is
Does anyone know how Dorrie Kavanaugh died?
Instead of resurrecting Irene, they should have had Cathy be the villain to finally get revenge on Viki.
Barrie Youngfellow in a KLEAR commercial 8:55.
Is that Tom Berenger ??
Yep
Steve Burke correct?
Was that Tom Berenger?
WOW
When did they take OLTL off the TV?
January 2012
004 Alice Hirson (Ellen's mom)
Any episodes with Sadie?
There’s a few 80s episodes with her on UA-cam
Look up One Life to Live 1984 and you’ll find her and Carla together in one of the episodes
As seen this was not a Proctor and Gamble soap.Soft & Dri was a Gillette product
Who's the guy doing the voiceover at the closing credits ?
Wait, isn't that Jan Hoffmeyer at 8:37? 🤣
Good eye - it is Barrie Youngfellow, who played Jan on It’s a Living.
whoah!
a very young tom berenger
Now a days at 25:00 when Tony forces a kiss on her that is sexual assault. I don't know about back then.
That scene made me uncomfortable, and I have watched A LOT of "One Life to Live".
It was wrong in 1975, too. To me, 1975 was a darker time than today. Too much was either not taken seriously, unidentified, or unknown.
Just saying.
BTW, I'm a Man who was aged 6 and 7 years, respectively, during 1975.
Dr. Steve Aldrich forcing himself on Karen in the late sixties is another example.
Or Nick forcing himself on his wife Althea Davis on The Doctors in 1969.
@@holden76100 Didn't Althea fight him off and locked Nick out of the bedroom? I've seen the episodes of The Doctors up until around 1973 on youtube thanks to people getting them from retrotv.
Tom Berenger!
@GeorgeMeyer
I posted you several messages on UA-cam asking if I could make requests, but somehow I did not get any answers from you at all. Can you please send me a notification via UA-cam?
Eileen , nosy as usual..
The dialogue on the soaps now is so stilted and woke and dumb.
@GeorgeMeyer
Please post me a reply via You Tube because when I left you posts regarding requests and email address I never get any responses back.
