- Is Surfing Better than Kitesurfing? A question that's been on my mind for a few years now, since I started kitesurfing. In this video I compare these 2 phenomenal sports and share my insights to try and figure out which is better! I've been kiting for 6 years and surfing for 10 (8 of which were super active). In these years of die hard devotion to these sports, I've traveled to many of the world's best destinations and spent many of my waking and sleeping hours obsessed with them. I guess this puts me in a position where I can give a decent answer ;)

I agree 100% with everything you've said here. I've been surfing 15 years and kiting for two and a half and I'd say I'm a better kiter than surfer although i do live in Wales where the waves at great most of the time but it's often windy. I mostly ride a directional strapless and my local spot has good waves and ramps. Nothing I've ever done can beat a top quality surf session but kiting is consistently more fun because of the reasons mentioned in the vid. I also find that the better i get at kitesurfing, the closer my wave riding gets to the purity of surfing in that my kite becomes less of an impediment through my turns and works with me rather than against me (which used to happen a lot). Cheers for the vid.
Yeah I'm with you on all of that Henry! Nice! I love seeing guys ride a directional when they ride the board more than the kite and only use the kite to get into position, bring more power into the turns or beat unbeatable sections. If I'm just riding the kite in stead of the board I don't feel connected with the water. Thanks for watching!
I have been kiting for 15 years, and have been asking this question from people who surf and kite I never got straight answer. Thanks for finally answering my question!👍 honestly I stoped watching kite videos since many of them are pretty boring, you definitely doing a great job with your videos bud , cheers 🍻 to that ! 👍
Thanks Faraz! 😁 I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Another good one! Great analysis! Love the progression graph.
Thanks Rich! 😁🙌
Great analysis. I could go on for days about this one. Been surfing since I was 5. Learned to kite a few years back and now it’s all I want to do. I still love surfing but every time I surf I realize how boring it can be. Not to mention all the idiots and assholes you have to deal with. Kiting is all action and the people who kite are waayyyy more friendly and welcoming than people who surf.
Hahaha I love how your name is Moron on here 😂
100%
I am both a surfer and a kitesurfer. Personally my heart goes out to surfing, but since I am living in the Netherlands I kite more often as conditions are better for kiting. I love the simplicity and intimacy with nature that I experience when surfing. It's all about preference though I think.
Kiting is always fun, never really a bad session unless the wind dies, gotta love it.
Bro this was such a sick video! I love the comparisons you made 😁 the only reason why I haven't started kiting yet is because of the price.
Poes epic video again mate! Can’t wait for the preload pop one
😂 Thanks so much bro!
Nothing beats the feeling of being pushed by the wave/water and dropping down a huge clean face....but it’s IMPOSSIBLE to get any decent conditions in the Western Europe, so yeah, it gets boring sometimes and extremely physically exhausting
Very very awesome comparison video as always you legend keep sending and see ya soon mate 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🚀💯💯
Thanks so much! 🙌😁
Great vid Bru. Can’t wait for the next how to video 🤘enjoy the waves
Thanks so much! 😛🙌
Really cool video - short, informative and entertaining!
So stoke for the preload tutorial !!!!!! Can't wait !!! Please the timing with both small kite and big kite !
Gonna get it out ASAP 😛✌️
Nothing beats getting barrelled! But man oh man the crowds here in California and the competition for waves means I enjoy kitesurfing everyday versus the struggle that surfing can be.
Yeah I'm with you Steve! 🙌
Great Video,, A major factor is the location where you are living.
For sure!!!
And thanks!
Yeah I can't wait for the next Video!
Thanks Lennard!
Both are best if you can live fairly close to a decent spot for the activity. If you have to fly to the location, with kiteboarding you'll be spending not only the money for equipment, but also to fly wherever often enough to get your skills in place. I started age 60, and it took about 90 hours to get up on the board (lessons, body dragging, getting enough kite skills to get my feet in the straps without crashing the kite). It's probably safer to surf without lessons than to kite without lessons.
*90 hrs - I kept track of my sessions, which were mostly about 3 hours each. So that's about 30 days, but over two seasons due partially to wind and sore muscles!
I have grown up by the red sea where the water is always flat so kitesurfing is very popular here and thats how I got into it! The location is probably a huge factor for what sport people get in to
@4:20 The sole reason i got into kiteboarding was watching kiters fly. And the fact I can kind of do this after two years of learning is fucking awesome! Great point
Kitesurfing is the future
Sure is! And it's in its infancy right now. Hopefully mankind makes it past 2020 to see the sport grow 😂😭😭
@@gethighwithmike Hopefully the number of kiters stays below 23 million. :)
@@dropthatfone Imagine having more kiters on the water than we already do, chaos!
Great video man . You should drop the mike rispeckt double sense lol
You forgot to say the 2 sport combines perfectly because if to windy not good for surfing and usually when the wind drop or turn off shore you got the best waves .
..what i really dig about kite surfing is the vibe...the guys are MUCH more friendly compared to the surfing crowd...however i see it changing as blouberg is starting to get super crowded and the tourists don't seem to understand personal space...they run their lines out right freeekn over on top of you when there's miles of space......
Sick video Mike! You nailed it.
Ahoy from Hermanus. Best of both words. Dawnie early on and shred the afternoon when the wind is up. 👊
Yewww guys know how to do it 🙌😛
You can always kitesurf on waves, You can jump etc. it is the future. I tried windsurfing and kite just stole my heart. Also I am living near kitesurfing region so it would be a sin not to do it ;)
Agree 100% specially for frustraded surfers like I who never got any good kiting beats it 1000 times.. it required less skills less physical condition but a lot of more money. Any surfer can learn how to kite but definitely not any kiter can learn how to surf
Well I agree with most of what you said, but I think any of us can do anything we put our minds to!
Mike both of these breathtaking addictions are superdope!
Hey man you mentioned coming to Spain, will you come after quarantine ends?
Two things not mentioned:
1. Convenience - With surfing, you can find waves on most coasts in the world... but to chase the wind you have to fly to a specific country with all your gear and hope it's good.
2. Chill - After a surf, you can chill on the beach with your girlfriend, grab a beer and a snack and relax. Kiting, it's too windy for that!
(still prefer kiting though)
Hahaha true story ✌️
Neither sport is that good if it's a challenge for you to get to the beach. Most surf beaches probably have somewhere not so far away to kiteboard, but some have more consistent wind from the right angle - usually in a specific season. (but the waves may also be better during a specific season).
100% agree. For me trying to surf (may like 20 times?) was mainly frustrating. Its so fucking hard to even get out through the waves and get the right timing to catch a green wave. And then, you have just a very little time peer session on really surfing that wave. Im not patient enough for this shit.^^
Cant wait for that next Video!
I've been to a few more remote beaches that would be awesome for learning to surf, but most are too crowded.
Sick shredded kite big air monster
😂😂😂 Thanks bru!
i was kiting out at doodles ..was just me and a lone surfer....in the time it took him to catch and ride 1 wave i had already had about 6 waves ....nuff said.
Strapless! Best of both worlds
Depends on the wind…
The real battle wouldnt be kitesurfing vs windsurfing? 😂
What about surfing vs kitesurfing directional ?
I haven't kited directional enough to compare them, but what do you think?
Great video!
The thing of paddeling out was the reason for me 😂 i hated it 😂
I agree 100000% ;-)
Surfing or kiting? All of them
😂 Yeehaa!
Bagus!
Terima kasih bang! :D
how about kiteSURFING? with a waveboard, strapless? cheers! j
I haven't ridden a waveboard enough to comment. What do you think J? 😛
unfortunately, I cannot surf..........
nah, surfing sucks; dont try it. no need for all that paddling.
Stop waffling .. get on the water
