    Great vid! For most of us it's difficult to chase the wind so we concentrate on different things on different wind speeds at our riding spot. Coaching would have saved me hundreds of falls (if not thousands) but they're hard to find. Plenty of instructors but they're generally not at the highest levels.

    Nice one.. I tried looping on my GTS but I never use the kite. I am always kiting on the XR. So I cannot boost as high, smooth and in control with the GTS compared to the XR. I crashed a lot of loops. Now I am thinking to loop the XR. Would you recommended to a kiteloop beginner? In short: should I loop the XR on which I am in control or the GTS on which I boost way worse and more out of balance?

  • @kahlkritzinger3338

    I traded my delta kites for two Airush Razors because everyone was telling me that C-kites are what you need when you want to take your loops to the next level. But you are suggesting that non-C shape would be better because it catches you better after a loop? Would you recommend I stick it out with the C-kites for a season or two, or would I progress faster if I switch back to med-high aspect kites ASAP?

    What are the steps to try get sponsored

    • @gethighwithmike
      @gethighwithmike  4 роки тому

      Great question! I recommend that you think of it from their perspective. Being sponsored comes at an expense to a company. You need to give them some good reasons to incur that expense. How are you going to help them establish their brand or sell kites? I started with a small shop sponsor, when I had been kiting for 2 years. I told the owner that I would give it everything I had to get good, but that I couldn't afford kites and it was slowing my progress. Luckily he saw my potential and my hunger and hooked me up with a deal :)

    I agree C kites are not the best kites for looping. But when Josh won the megaloop challenge two years ago he was riding the impact, and there were also some riders on c kites this year. Why is that?

    • @gethighwithmike
      @gethighwithmike  4 роки тому +1

      You'd have to ask Josh re megaloop. Pro riders still on C kites are rare and they're typically the guys who have been around a long time. I think low aspect kites have evolved so much and these guys just aren't aware how awesome they are these days, because they're used to bows and deltas being slow and crap like they were 6+ years ago.

    Awesome vid but raising more questions 😋.
    1- Why mix 7m GTS with bigger XRs? Wouldn't keeping the same feel across the quiver be better?
    2- Why XR 13.5 and not, say 15? Why such big kites? More power yes, but isn't it harder to jump and loop with those slower kites?
    3- Define powered... For an average (75kgs) rider, what wind range for you consider suitably 'powered' on an xr6 7m, 9m, 12m, 13.5m ?
    Thanks 😁😇

    • @JanekGrzegorzewski
      @JanekGrzegorzewski 4 роки тому +5

      David Flusin 1. I use 7m gts5 only in very strong winds reaching over 50 knots in gusts, I normally prefer 8m gts but if I would have to choose 3 kites only I would go for 7 rather than the 8 as otherwise I wouldn’t be able to hold my edge in storms. Xr is good but I prefer it in lighter conditions, it can generate more power than the gts :)
      2. 13,5 was my old school progression kite, I have never progressed as much as I have with this kite, still gives you the height, and some good hang time, where 15m wouldn’t give you much height as it’s just to big.
      3. For 75kg
      7m GTS5 in 35-55 knots(on this kite you can hold a lot of power)
      9m Xr in 25-35, gusting 40s (really? Sounds too much?)
      13.5 Xr is powered at above 20knots reaching even up to high 20s, but can be also fun in low winds like 15knots, although you won't be lit.
      There is also a big difference between powered and overpowered, when you overpowered it is hard to keep the edge and go upwind, your board starts to lose the grip and its really hard to decrease the speed. I have had some very powered sessions and honestly at one point its like fighting to stay alive… Instead of going up you will get pulled forward as its impossible to hold that much power when jumping. When riding you will start getting pulled over your board as the gusts will take you out of control. Small mistakes can give you a massive crash and a very long body drag afterwards haha. Stay safe! Cheers!

      @@JanekGrzegorzewski Thanks Jan, I'm still a bit confused since you mention a bit earlier in the vid that it's good to work on technique on smaller sizes but state you made most of your progress on the 13.5 while very powered. Also, Mike just smashed the WOO world record on a 7m and highlights the benefits of a smaller, faster kite. Is it something like : step 1 work on technique with small/medium kites in reasonable winds, step 2 use bigger kites to get use to handle more power in reasonable winds, step 3 graduate to smaller kites in insane (40+ kts) winds? If not, could you please explain how you manage your sizes & power levels when progressing?

      Jan Grzegorzewski I’m 90kg and I’m looking to get a quiver of 3 xr6 kites, I’m currently on cabrinha switchblades have 7,9,12m and a 15m contra, 9 out of 10 sessions I’m on my 9m or 12m at the moment, 1 out of 10 sessions I will be using my 7m or 15m, I’m looking to scale down to 3 kites as I travel a lot,
      Which 3 sizes in xr do you recommend?

      From my experience most used kite was 12 meters but im not usually travel to very windy spots like cape town for instance. I also used 9 very often but 7 was very rare. Mostly 7 was for my girlfriend.
      Now im thinking about
      8 10 and 13,5

      @@dajbucha I bought 8m 10m and 13.5m xr6, absolutely love them, perfect spacing between kites, would highly recommend, also got the sensor 3 pro bar and choice4, the bar is so simple and light compared to my cabrinha bar and untwist works perfectly, the choice4 lovely at holding the edge in flat or choppy water, with great pop and effortless to ride, so different to my 2018 cabrinha ace carbon that felt like I had been doing squats in the gym all day after an hour or so if overpowered. The choice 4 do need a bit more wind to get going compared to my old board.

Also, do us all a favour and help stop the bullshit commentating at KOTA where every loop is a mega loop when clearly it isn't. Guys doing underpowered loops 8m off the water and the guy commentating screaming it's a megaloop. Don't devalue the megaloop.
